서울 소재 노인요양시설의 케어의 질 향상을 위한 생활지도원 수발지원환경에 관한 연구

        정미렴(Chung Mi-Ryum),박영기(Park Young-Ki) 대한건축학회 2008 대한건축학회논문집 Vol.24 No.4

With the increase of elderly population and public sympathy on the social responsibility of the long-term care for the elderly with chronic geriatric disease, nursing home and her specialized staffs are rising as important issue. Among the staffs, nursing assistants are responsible for most of direct care, such as perineal care, toileting, dressing, basic hygiene care, food preparation, cleaning, transfer aid between bed and wheelchair, conversation and program aid. Even though their role is critical to the clients' quality of life, they are suffering from heavy workload, low wage, unstable employment situation and so on, which lead to low job satisfaction and high turn-over rate. The purpose of this study is to analyze their satisfactory level with current care support environment, and its influence on the quality of care. Among 5 elderly long-term care facilities with over 70 beds, running with unit care concept, 3 cooperative facilities were selected. Structured questionnaire survey was performed on Nursing assistants, and 94 cases were analyzed. As a result, it turned out that there was a correlation between nursing aids' satisfactory level with current care support setting and quality of care. Since care support setting had not been considered enough when the nursing homes were designed, physical care support settings appeared to be more urgent matter than social and psychological care support environment.

        노인요양시설 개인생활공간의 안내표식시스템에 관한 연구

        정미렴(Chung Mi-Ryum),김대년(Kim Dae-Nyun) 대한건축학회 2010 대한건축학회논문집 Vol.26 No.5

The Sign system of nursing home plays an important role when an elderly adapts to new environment and gets on with daily life autonomously. Private space is a place to relieve oneself from fatigue and other people, to comfortably perform sanitary activities. If one can find this space easily, an elderly feels comfortable. Adequate signage should be installed to aid them in finding their ways. Sign system is a comprehensive system consisted of various factors. In this research, it has been categorized as signage and cueing. Signage includes text and graphic signs, and cueing consists of floor plan configuration and sensual mechanism of visual, auditory, and olfactory senses. Using this framework, field investigation and analysis were held in private space(bedroom, bathroom) of 10 Korean, 10 Japanese, and 8 Northern European nursing home facilities. The result revealed that even if the sign system worked as a combined unit, all factors were designed without relations to each other and did not perform mutually complementary role. Korean facilities had diverse and abundant sign and cueing elements, and floorplans were easy for wayfinding compared to other countries. Japanese facilities preferred simple signs attached at proper height. Those of Northern Europe used colors on the door, and considered privacy to be more valuable than amanity.

Vol.24 No.2

The importance of the nursing home for the elderly is drawing a greater attention these days as the elderly population and the social recognition of the elderly issue have increased. Above all, the bathroom/toilet in nursing home is a space that could measure the health condition of the elderly and their ability to carry on the daily life. However, not many antecedent papers provide an in-depth study on the space planning of bathroom/toilet facilities and they are limited to specific regions. The purpose of this study is to provide the current condition of the bathroom/toilet facilities in nursing home for the elderly and to suggest the space planning through nationwide survey and case study. The analysis is based on the results of the survey from 180 nursing homes and the case studies of 14 nursing homes for the elderly in Seoul and 6 metropolitan cities. Bathrooms/toilets in the bedroom have toilet and wash bowls. However, many lack the shower, shower-chair and safety handle that would help the elderly and the assisting staff. Most of the layouts of the bathroom/toilet are connected to the bedroom for private use and yet, more than 50% do not have a space for turning the wheelchair. Public toilets meet the standards relative to the private bathrooms/toilets in the bedroom. But, they do not have covers to protect users from burns on water supply tubes or temperature control mechanism and would need to be improved. The height of the toilet bowls meets the standard, and the flushing device is in satisfactory condition in that it is either in lever or button form. However, the distance from the center of the toilet bowl to the side wall needs to be adjusted. In summary, although some of the bathroom/toilet facilities in Korean nursing homes are appropriate for the elderly, most are not. Considering the worsening health condition of the elderly, it is essential to improve the environment and facilities of the bathroom/toilet in Korean nursing homes for the elderly.

        변혜령(Byun Hea-Ryung),윤영선(Yoon Young-Sun),김대년(Kim Dae-Nyun),정미렴(Chung Mi-Ryum) 대한건축학회 2008 대한건축학회논문집 Vol.24 No.11

The purpose of this study is to analyze architectural characteristics of the living environment of nursing homes for the elderly and to examine the current status and problems by clarifying the differences in variables of relation with the characteristics of the nursing homes. Mail survey was performed using a structured questionnaire from July 29th to August 31st, 2006. The questionnaire dealt with the general features of the facility and the elderly who live there, and the spatial feature of the facility. The study limited its survey to those facilities that were registered to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which opened after 1995 and that had the capacity of more than 30 people. As a result, the questionnaire was sent to the directors of 344 facilities who were in charge of the nursing home operation and planning. 185 facilities returned the questionnaire and the study used 182 questionnaires for data analysis. The study used the SPSS 12 program to draw the frequency, percentage of the answers and utilized the cross-tab to analyze the differences. The results of this study were as follows: First, most facilities have opened after 2000 and 74% of the objects are free. In architectural characteristics, most of them were 1,000~2,000㎡ in building area, ― shape in the building shape, and corridor in the shape of floor plan. This means that the architectural characteristics of nursing homes in Korea were like as facilities. Second, the skilled care facilities was bigger, more various building types, and more cases of other facilities(day care center, short-term care center et al.) included than nursing homes. Third, in building area, the nursing homes in large cities were smaller than the nursing homes in small towns or rural areas. Other facilities, as day-care center, were included in many case of the nursing homes in large cities.
