소셜네트워크 저널리즘과 이중적 운동 -사회정치적 주체의 귀환과 실천-

오늘날 거의 모든 삶의 영역을 시장의 원리가 지배하게 되면서 저널리 즘과 미디어 분야마저 자본에 종속되는 방향으로 수렴되고 있는바, 본 연 구는 미디어 기업의 이윤 극대화 논리가 불러온 저널리즘의 위기와 공론 장의 재봉건화에 대한 반동으로, 최근 참여, 상호호혜, 개방성을 원리로 한 네트워크 기반 기술과 서비스를 바탕으로 대안적 실천들을 조직하는 개별 주체들의 새로운 공동체적 움직임과 변화에 주목하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 폴라니가 제시한 사회와 경제의 ‘묻어 들어 있음(Embeddness)’ 과 공동체에 의한 사회성의 회복을 의미하는 ‘이중적 운동(Dual Movement)’ 의 개념을 중심으로 세 사이트(Spot.us, GlobalVoices, Demotix)의 사례 연 구를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 미디어의 이중적 운동의 예로 간주할 수 있는 대안 미디어적 실천들이 새로운 네트워크 저널리즘 플랫폼들을 통해 구현 되고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 이들 플랫폼들은 듀즈가 말하는 실험적이고 혼종적인 형태로 커뮤니티 와 공중 공동체에 의한 다양한 방식의 참여를 지원하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 상호간의 신뢰와 호혜성을 기본으로 작동하는 새로운 사회경제적 미 디어 운용 방식에 따라 네트워크로부터 수많은 개인들의 재능과 재정 지 원을 동원함으로써 기존의 전통적인 저널리즘을 보완할 수 있는 비경제적 비즈니스 모델을 구현하고 있었다. 이 과정에서 우리는 네트워크 저널리 즘을 자본주의 자유시장주의에 대응한 사회성 회복이라는 역사적 ‘이중적 운동’으로 파악할 수 있게 된다. This research tries to discuss recent development of new Journalism practices that are mainly driven by national and global citizens. They have diverse names such as online citizen journalism, crowd sourcing journalism, social journalism etc but they share rather than differ common values and forms of participation in creation of new journalism. What we call ‘network journalism’ refers to those shared collective values, actions, and processes. Specifically, in order to highlight such views on the new journalism practices, drawing on the prominent work of Karl Polanyi, we conceptualize network journalism as such and tries to contextualize network journalism within historical movement to change radically commercialized and anti-social practices of dominant media institutions. It is a form of ‘Dual Movement’ that the media practices are not just media phenomena enabled by network technologies but are recent efforts to construct new forms of alternative media aimed for the ‘recovery of social relations’ by the people. This process makes it possible to understand news gathering, distributing, producing activity on digital platforms as “Dual Movement of media” or “Social Economization of media”. We discuss this particular perspectives from three case network jrounalism pratices including Spot.us, GlobalVoices, Demotix. From these cases, we could identify that network journalism tends to support social participation in varying, hybridized ways, by mobilizing the talent and financial support from the user and community based on the reciprocity and trust. In addition, three platforms has realized the non-economic business model that is able to supplement the traditional economic model of journalism in common.
