A section analysis and design program named SECOPT has been developed to compute cross section properties of general thin-walled open, close, single, or multi-cellular sections. SECOPT, a program developed especially to help designers of vehicle structures where non-standard geometrical shape of beam section are encountered. The program integrates optimization of beam section with automatic calculations and satisfaction of constraints on section properties. The section optimization function of SECOPT provides with the ability to design minimum weight sections that meet a specified set of constrains on moment of inertias and torsional constant.<br/>

Dynamic and static characteristics of the beam structure are mainly influenced by the shape of the cross section and material properties. Since the shape of the cross section determines the stiffness of the beam. such as I_x. I_y. J. an optimal shape of the cross section of the beam must be searched for the optimal stiffness design of the beam structure. In this paper an optimal design methodology for the thin-walled beam structure is presented.<br/>

This paper presents a virtual machine design simulation program. Kinematics of various mechanisms can be modeled with 3 dimensional geometry and actuators. CAD data for any machine component can be easily imported in STL format. Machine components are assembled with kinematic joints simply by drag and drop function in virtual graphic simulator. Interference and collision of any component with other components can be identified during the motion simulation. Graphic user interface program is developed using Microsoft Direct X code. A precision micro stage system is demonstrated with the proposed virtual machine design simulator.
