        시각 및 청각 대학생의 영어어휘력 조사

        This study is an expanded paper of Park, Lee, Lim (2008), which investigated the lexical ability of university students with visual impairments. Based on the findings of Park, Lee, Lim (2008), the present study examines the lexical ability of university students with hearing and visual impairments. A total of 146 university students participated in this study and they were divided into as one control group and two experimental groups. The data were collected by the questionnaire including their background information and the measurement of their lexical ability and were analyzed by the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and chi-square(X2). The findings of the study are as follows: (a) the English lexical ability of the students with hearing impaired is significantly less than that one of the control group and the group of students with visual impairments, especially at on the level of middle and high school lexis; (b) the relationship between the lexical ability of the students with hearing and visual impairments and their background information regarding their hearing impaired age and their impairing level was found to be somewhat correlated; and (c) more importantly, the visual and hearing impaired students’ difficulty about learning English is different from the one of the control group and they were less exposed to English from the beginning. The results are expected to give empirical evidence and suggestions for a better understanding of the reality of the hearing and visually impaired students’ lexical ability to help their English learning.

        영어과 예비교사를 위한‘거꾸로 교실’ 수업 모형과 적용

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the concept of flipped learning and to explore the ways to develop instructional design models in English classes for preservice teachers of English. As a format of blended learning, flipped learning begins with the introduction of a new concept of prior learning that allows students to learn in advance through previewing online lessons and video clips related with the classroom content to be covered. During class time, individualized supplementary or in-depth study is conducted on the basis of the students’ prior learning. This study proposes the development of instructional design models for flipped learning pursuant to such considerations. A total of 35 senior college students participated in this new model of flipped classroom and their responses were collected through the interview and simple survey. Overall their negative responses about the class were due to extra work for prior learning and lack of enough class discussions. Future directions regarding the integration of reflective practice into teacher preparation courses were suggested.

        영어과 수준별 이동수업에 대한 고등학교 학생과 교사의 인식 연구

        To examine how English level-differentiated instruction is being used in public high schools in Seoul, this study surveyed high school students’ and teachers’ perceptions regarding the operation, contents, and the effects of level-differentiated English instruction. A total of 200 high school students and 42 high school teachers of English participated in the study. The results are as follows: First, the students exhibited overall moderate level of satisfaction about the operation, especially the advanced level students. Second, there were significantly different views about level-differentiated English instruction among the students with different English proficiency. Third, the teachers responded that it was more effective for advanced level students than for other groups. Based on the findings, some pedagogical suggestions were made for improvement of level-differentiated English instruction.

        교육대학원 영어교육전공 교육과정 비교 연구

        This paper aims at examining the kind of courses offered to students majoring in English education at graduate schools of education and comparing to see if they are reflected and organized well in terms of the English teacher qualities. It reviews theoretical background on the teacher qualities and deals with the curricula of five representative graduate schools of Education. It is found that those schools offer different courses and requires different set of credits for graduation. Based on the findings, some suggestions are made for improvement on the curriculum.

        2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 고등학교 영어Ⅱ 교과서 문화내용 비교 분석

        The purpose of this paper is to analyze the topics and cultural contents in Korean High School English II textbooks which are currently authorized on the basis of the 2009 revised national curriculum. A total of 8 authorized High School English II textbooks are carefully examined, focusing on the topics and cultural contents of the main texts by four categories: 1) the topics, 2) the culture types, 3) cultural background countries, and 4) the connection between the main texts and cultural pages. The results of the study are as follows. First, among 19 topics, the most commonly used topic is about creativity, imagination and general education. Second, spiritual culture took up most in these textbooks. Third, in terms of cultural background nationality, universal culture showed the highest distribution in these textbooks. Finally, although many of the textbooks are accompanied with the cultural pages, some of them still need consistency. Based on these findings, the study provides some pedagogical implications for cultural learning in English textbooks in Korea.

        코로나19로 인한 비대면 온라인 수업에 대한 영어교육과 대학생들의 인식 연구

        The purpose of this study is to investigate how college students majoring in English education view emergency remote teaching and learning in the form of online class operations due to COVID-19 pandemic. One hundred and twenty-four college students from the department of English education participated to complete the questionnaire with 26 closed questions and 6 open-ended questions. By the use of SPSS 25, factor analysis and correlational study were conducted and a qualitative method was utilized for the analysis of the study. The results of the study revealed that four variables including instructor, learner, system environment, and learning effect were identified and they were statistically correlated. While the ease of access and convenience to online classes were found to be advantages of online classes, limited teacher-student interactions and unstable Internet connections were considered disadvantages of online classes. As for the suggestions for improving the quality of online class, stable online networking system, active interactions and feedback between instructors and students, and combined operations of synchronous and asynchronous online classes were discussed. Based on the findings of the study, several pedagogical implications for future online learning were presented.

        2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 고등학교 공통영어교과서 문화 내용 분석

        The purpose of this paper is to investigate the topics and cultural contents in Korean High School English textbooks currently authorized by the national curriculum revised in 2015. A total of 11 authorized High School English textbooks are carefully examined, focusing on the topics and cultural contents of the main texts, for four categories: 1) the core competencies of the English curriculum revised in 2015, 2) the cultural topics, 3) the cultural background countries, and 4) the types of learning activities. The results of the study indicated that: First, the key competencies were distributed relatively evenly throughout all textbooks, and the most frequently introduced capability was civic competency. Second, among 19 cultural topics, the most common was general culture in these textbooks. Third, regarding the nationalities related to cultural background, native English cultures showed the highest distribution. Finally, almost all of the textbooks presented information retrieval activities and communication activities, but only some of them had hands-on activities. Based on these findings, the study provides pedagogical implications for cultural teaching and learning in English textbooks in Korea.

        청각장애 대학생의 영어어휘력 실태 조사

        This study examines the lexical ability of hearing impaired university students. A total of 100 university students participated in this study and they were divided into as a control group and an experimental group. The data were collected by the questionnaire including their background information and the measurement of their lexical ability and were analyzed by the use of the SAS 8.2 statistical program. The study’s findings are as follows: (a) the lexical ability of the hearing impaired students is far less than the one of the control group, especially on the level of middle and high school lexis; (b) the relationship between the lexical ability of the hearing impaired students and their background information regarding their hearing impaired age and their impairing level was found to be somewhat correlated; and (c) more importantly, the hearing impaired students’ difficulty about learning English is different from the one of the control group and they were less exposed to learn English from the beginning. The discussion presented in this paper can lead to a better understanding of the reality of the hearing impaired students’ lexical ability, which can help develop, adapt and disseminate sound and practical information concerning the English lexical ability of hearing impaired students.

      • 중등 영어과 임용고사 문항 분석 : 영어교육 분야를 중심으로

        본 연구는 지난 2009학년도에 새로이 시행된 객관식 문항으로 구성된 1차 임용시험의 유형에 대한 선행 연구가 거의 없었고, 구체적인 시험 문항의 세부 영역별 분석 연구가 드물었기에 임용시험이 최초로 시작된 1992년부터 최근의 2011년까지의 중등 영어교원 임용 시험의 220문항을 연도별, 세부 내용 영역별로 경향을 비교 분석하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 지난 20년간의 중등 영어교원 1 차 임용시험은 문항 출제 유형의 변화에 따라 크게 생성기, 전개기, 정립기, 개혁기로 분류되었다. 영어 교육 분야 세부 영역은 언어습득 및 학습이론, 교육과정 및 교재론, 평가, 교수법, 영어 기능 및 ICT 활용지도 분야 등 5가지 영역으로 분류될 수 있었으며, 그 중에서도 언어습득 및 학습이론과 교수법 분야의 문항이 전 시기에 걸쳐 가장 많이 출제되는 경향이 있었다. 한편, 정립기에 해당되는 2002년도에 들어서서는 영어 기능 및 ICT 활용 영어지도 부문의 문항이 급격히 증가되었음을 알 수 있었다. 반면에, 개혁기에 해당되는 2009년도부터는 영어교육의 5가지의 세부 영역이 어느 쪽에 치우치지 않도록 비교적 균형되게 출제되고 있으나, 연도별로 출제에 참가한 출제자의 전공에 따라 출제 경향이 조금씩 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the current national level qualifying tests for English teacher candidates of secondary schools. It analyzes the test items from 1992 to 2011 in terms of the test item types and percentages and suggests some ideas to make the tests more efficient in serving its purpose. The tests are identified as 5 kinds of sub-domain types, which are language acquisition and learning theory, curriculum and teaching materials, language assessment, teaching methods, language skills and teaching by the use of ICT. The most frequently used types of domains are language acquisition and learning theory and teaching methods. The tests consist of the five major parts, which are second language acquisition and learning theory, curriculum and teaching materials, English assessment, teaching methodology, English language skills and ICT language teaching and learning. The major parts that the tests are covered with are second language acquisition and learning theory and teaching methodology whereas the parts of teaching grammar and listening take the least. On the basis of the results of the study, implications on effective English teacher employment test items are presented, and further pedagogical implications and future study directions are suggested.

      • 중등 영어교사의 자질에 대한 학생, 교사, 학부모의 인식 비교 연구

        본 연구는 우리나라와 같은 영어를 외국어로 배우고 가르치는 상황에서 영어교사에게 요구되는 전문성과 자질에 대한 의견이 학생, 학부모와 교사 간에 어떻게 다른지를 탐구해 보는 것이 주된 목적이었 다. 이 연구를 위하여 국내외의 문헌과 선행연구를 통하여 영어교사의 전문성에 대한 자질을 먼저 살펴 보고, 영어교사와 학부모, 그리고 학생집단의 설문 조사를 통하여 세 집단 간의 영어교사의 자질에 대 한 인식을 분산분석(ANOVA)을 활용하여 비교, 검토하여 하였다. 연구 결과로는 교사의 자질로는 크게 5가지 영역으로 도출되었는데, 언어지식, 수업기술, 태도, 상호작용, 성찰이었고, 이에 대한 세 집단의 인식은 각각 영역마다 다르게 나타났고, 이는 교사와 학부모가 기대하는 영어교사상과 학생집단이 기대 하는 영어교사상은 상이하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 교사의 자질에 해당하는 각 5가지 하위 영역과 나이별, 성별, 근무 연수별, 영어실력별 상관관계가 있는 지를 조사한 결과, 근무 연수와 수업기술에 따 른 차이가 발견되었으며, 나머지 요인들과는 상관관계가 없는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 근무 연수가 15년에서 20년 미만의 교사들이 ‘수업 기술’의 중요성을 가장 많이 인식하고 있는 반면에 근무 연수가 20년 이상 이 된 교사들은 오히려 그 중요성을 가장 낮게 보고 있었다. 본 논문에 참여한 세 집단의 참여자 수가 적어서 이를 일반화하기에는 무리가 따르지만, 세 집단의 의견에 공통점과 차이점이 어느 영역에서 존 재하는 것을 보여준 것으로 의의가 있다고 본다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the quality of a good secondary teacher of English from the perspectives of students, parents, and teachers. A questionnaire with 29 questions was distributed to 60 high school students, 66 parents, and 61 secondary school teachers. The questionnaire consisted of questions about the knowledge of English language, skills related to teaching, the personality of the teacher, skills related to reflection, and interaction skills. The questionnaire was analyzed by the use of SPSS 17.0. ANOVA and frequency analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: first, there was a similarity in the aspect of skills related to teaching and a difference in the aspect of knowledge of English language among teacher, parent, and student groups. The teachers and the parents had the same opinions and attitudes towards the qualities of a good language teacher, whereas the students had different opinions. Second, the correlation between the quality of a teacher and age, sex, and language ability was found to be not existent, whereas the working years of teachers correlated to the skills related to teaching. On the basis of the results of the study, implications on effective English teaching are presented, and further pedagogical implications and future study directions are suggested.
