This paper deals with the designing of instrument for achieving surgical operation in the stomach and gullet using endoscope channel. The method used herein was to provide beads to knot suturing thread automatically. Following design rules were applied : 1) that instrument must be designed to enable surgical operator to stitch successively by only simple handling 2) that instrument must be designed to minimize insertion and extraction of endoscope. The main result from the experiment with animal stomach was that the surgical operation time was reduced and successive suture was available. Considering the requirement of operator’s highly trained skills and the discomfort of patient in traditional suture process, the proposed design is expected to markedly improve the endoscopic suturing performance.
2006 Journal of Technology Innovation Vol.14 No.1
The relationship between R&D polices(R&D subsidy, tax incentives) and firm R&D expenditures is analyzed through firm`s profit maximization function. As a result, the relationship between R&D policies and firm R&D expenditures is determined by the relationship between firm R&D expenditures and market price. In case of major innovation which cause the fall of market price, the elasticity R&D subsidy and firm R&D expenditures is negative(substitution). In case of minor innovation which cause the rise of market price, the elasticity R&D subsidy and firm R&D expenditures is positive(complement). Tax incentives is bring about the increase of firm R&D expenditures. R&D subsidy and tax incentives are substitutively influenced at firm R&D expenditures.

This paper investigates the relationship between firms` competitive position and different types of R&D investment, by using a dynamic model of market share and R&D investment. The paper develops the model that includes both product R&D, as quality-enhancing investment, and process R&D, as cost-reducing investment, to complement previous studies that considered one of the two types of R&D investment. Since this paper considers the situation where a firm` market share is determined by both product quality and price, the paper is different from previous studies that analyzed the decision of R&D investment based on either price or quantity competition. The paper shows that the relationship between market share and different types of R&D investment, and the relationship between market share and the ratio of product R&D to process R&D investment differ, depending on the level of the firm price elasticity of market demand. This paper contributes to the literature not only because these results of the paper can fill the lacuna of the previous theoretical studies either that considered one of the different types of R&D or that did not differentiated between the types, but also because the paper can explain relevant results of empirical studies concerning product and process R&D.
