In a gasoline engine with port injection system, the fuel behavior in the intake port has significant influence on the HC emission and the precise A/F control. That is to say, it is inevitable that the injection direction and behavior of fuel injected in the intake port have an effect on the generation of unbumed HC within a cylinder.<br/> In this paper, we visualize fuel behavior in the intake port using micro CCD camera synchronized with the stroboscope and investigate the fuel-film characteristics formed at the wall of intake port by processing image captured with VCR in the transparent intake port made of acryl.<br/> With these measuring methods, it was found that the fuel behavior and the formation of fuel-film in the intake port could be evaluated qualitatively. These results show that 2spray injector has a good response and minimizes the fuel-film in a DOHC gasoline engine.<br/>

This paper deals with the results of injection characteristics and the influence parameters upon the fuel injection performance of the inline injection system in a diesel engine. In this study, the characteristics of the injection rate, the injection pressure and the injection duration have been investigated by changing the injection parameters. The predicted results and injection performance are compared to the measured data from the injection test system.<br/> <br/>

This paper presents the characteristics of the gas flow in the engine cylinder under various intake flow conditions. The single-ㄹrame particle tracking velocimetry(PTV) was applied to analyze the gas flow pattern and flow field in the cylinder. Effects of tumble intensifying valve(TIV), swirl intensifying valve(SIV), and one-valve deactivated condition on in-cylinder flow patterns were compared with the baseline engine under 600rpm motoring condition. In addition, tumble ratio was estimated with results of in-cylinder flow fields. Base on experimental results, the tumble ratio of in-cylinder flow field has the maximum value at the bottom dead center for the different four inlet conditions. In TIV condition, the tumble ratio is 1.35 times larger than that of baseline engine and I intake valve deactivated condition is effective to improve in-cylinder swirl motion

The characteristics of combustion variation and combustion performance in a multi-point injection<br/> gasoline engine are investigated using experiments and theoretical simulation.<br/> In this study. the variations of combustion characteristics was analyzed by using the coefficient of<br/> variation and combustion characteristics of engine.<br/> The results of this work show that the variation coefficient of mean effective pressure and maximum pressure in cylinder are decrease with the increase of engine speed. The cycle variation of pressure characteristics and combustion rate of engine are also discussed.<br/>

Numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the effect of the geometrical configuration of the curved-diffusing parts on the performance characteristics at the inlet of the catalyst layer in the DeNOx facilities. Application has been made to the existing SCR process in the large-scaled coal-fired power plants. The steady three-dimensional viscous flow fields with the proper turbulence model fitted to the flow characteristics were solved for three types of the duct shape. The numerical results showed that the type of Youngheong power plant is effective to improve the flow uniformity in the expense of the slight increment of the pressure losses.

This study describes the gas flow visualization and in-cylinder global flow of dual intake valve gasoline engine with an elongated piston and visualized cylinder. In order to obtain the flow characteristics in the cylinder, basic pcrformance test was conducted first to verify intake flow and compression characteristics of test engine. The modified engine has s similar trend of increase on compression peak pressure and induction mass flow rate with engine speed comparing to production engine. Also the laser sheet method and single frame particle tracking wvlocimetry was adopted to investigate quantitatively bulk flow in a cylinder. Maximum velocity of 6.908ㆍV_p was obtained at the BDC under dual intake valve condition and did maximum velocity of 4.950ㆍV_p at 20℃A ABDC under 1 valve deactivated condition<br/>

The injected fuel spray does not have much time to be mixed with inducted air before ignition. Thus it is a important parameter to keep the sufficient spray momentum at the targeting plane. In this paper, the initial spray development of Pintle-type injector was visualized to analyze the atomization characteristics with shadowgraph. The time history of the Sauter mean diameter was obtained with digital image processing technique. Auto-correlation PIV was used to measure droplet velocities and define a spray momentum. The results show that droplet breakup actively takes place at the 20 mm downstream of injector tip and a group of droplets fly 4 msec between 50 mm and 80 mm from injector tip with Sauter mean diameter of about 110μim. The big droplets in the front spray has broken into a lot of small ones with time.

This work deals with the performance characteristics of three lobe Roots type supercharger for the application of low compression and high expansion ratio gasoline engine. The performance test was conducted to obtain the drive power, volumetric efficiency, adiabatic efficiency, and the influence performance factors of supercharger. In order to obtain the supercharging characteristics of engine, the effect of operating conditions on the supercharging performance of low compression and high expansion ratio gasoline engine was investigated. The results show that the increase of supercharger speed and pressure ratio bring about the increase of drive power. The three lobe Roots type supercharger which was applied for this study is considered operating properly at the compression ratio less than 1.3 for the low revolution^ 5.000rpm)'. for the higher revolution, compression ratio high then 1.5 is recommended.<br/>
