The fast neutron rates are compared at the site of the NEOS (Neutrino Experiment Oscillation Short baseline) experiment, a short-baseline neutrino experiment located in a tendon gallery of a commercial nuclear power plant using a 0.78-liter liquid scintillator detector. A pulse shape discrimination technique is used to identify neutron signals. The measurements are performed during the nuclear reactor-on and -off periods, and the fast neutron rates are found to be consistent with each other. The fast neutron rate is also measured at an overground site with a negligible overburden and is found to be ∼ 100 times higher than that at the site of the NEOS experiment.

The IgG subclass deficiency is defined as a significant decrease in the serum concentrations of one or more subclasses of IgG in a patient whose total IgG concentration is normal. IgG subclass deficiency can predispose to recurrent sinopulmonary infections. A 29-year-old female patient with a 4-year history of bronchial asthma presented with cough, sputum, dyspnea, and recurrent respiratory infections. She had frequently been treated with antibiotics and systemic steroids for recurrent respiratory infections and acute asthma exacerbations. Chest X-ray and computed tomography showed pectus excavatum and bronchial wall thickening without lung parenchymal abnormalities. On immunological evaluation, she was found to have a low serum IgG3, with normal total IgG concentration. Under diagnosis of selective IgG3 deficiency, she was started on monthly infusions of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy. The frequency and severity of respiratory infections and acute asthma exacerbations were markedly decreased during 3 years of IVIG therapy. Our case report suggests that a patient who has underlying selective IgG3 deficiency and asthma may benefit from IVIG therapy as this can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of recurrent respiratory infections and acute asthma exacerbations. 전극 양단에 안정 콘덴서(Ballast Contenser)를 부착한 냉음극 형광램프와 외관전극의 용량성 결합으로 동작되는 외부전극 형광램프의 전류-전압 방전특성을 조사하였다. 냉음극 형광램프의 전극 양단에 인가되는 전압과 전류의 특성은 전압의 증가로 암전류 영역과 타운젠트 점화방전을 거쳐서 음극 강하를 통한 전형적인 글로우 방전을 보여준다. 안정 콘덴서에 인가되는 전압을 포함한 전류-전압은 안정 콘덴서에 인가되는 전압이 상대적으로 크기 때문에 냉음극 강하가 나타나지 않고, 글로우 방전 영역에서 전압의 증가에 따라서 전류가 증가한다. 외부전극 자체가 캐패시터인 외부전극 형광램프에서의 전류-전압은 안정 콘덴서를 포함한 냉음극 형광램프와 동일한 특성을 보여준다. 따라서 외부전극 형광램프는 동작 전압에서 글로우 방전의 특성을 갖으며, 외부전극 자체가 안정 콘덴서의 기능을 한다. The characteristics of current and voltage in a basic discharge experiment are investigated for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp with ballast capacitors attached at both ends of lamp and for a capacitive coupled external electrode fluorescent lamp. In the current-voltage characteristics for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp except ballast capacitors, it is shown that the typical glow discharge with the cathode fall follows after the dark current and Townsend firing discharge. However, in the characteristics for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp including ballast capacitors, the current increases as the voltage increases in the glow discharge region without representing a cathode fall since the most voltage is loaded at two capacitors. The characteristics for the external electrode fluorescent lamp shows the same as that of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp in the respect of glow discharge characters, and the external electrode itself roles the ballast capacitor.

Selective COX (cyclooxygenase)-2 inhibitors including celecoxib have been shown to induce apoptosis and cell cycle changes in various tumor cells. New inhibitors are recently being developed as chemomodulating agents. We evaluated celecoxib and screened 150 synthetic compounds for anti-proliferative activities in vitro. Effects of celecoxib on COX activity, cell growth, cell cycle distribution, and apoptosis induction were determined in A549 COX-2 overexpressing human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. The COX inhibition of celecoxib increased with concentration up to 82% at 1μM after 24 hr exposure. Forty μM and 50μM of celecoxib induce G_1 arrest, and TUNEL-positive apoptotic cells, respectively. Among 150 compounds, several compounds were selected for having greater COX-2 inhibitory activity and higher selectivity than celecoxib with growth inhibitory activity. Celecoxib showed concentration-dependent COX inhibitory activity, and ability to induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human NSCLC cells in vitro. Among synthetic analogues screened, several compounds showed promising in vitro activity as COX-2 inhibitory anticancer agents, which warrant further evaluation in vitro and in vivo.
