현대자동차의 디자인 정체성 `플루이딕 스컬프처`의 전략적 고찰

Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) has shown its design power to the world customers through continuous development. However the apparent image status regarding car`s design identity like other world leading motor companies couldn`t be achieved by the company. Now, HMC, the world No. 5 auto manufacturer in terms of volume, is not available to have ever more growth without design identity. Therefore, HMC recently presented `Fluidic Sculpture` as its design identity for the future. This paper conducted the review for HMC`s the new design identity in the context of corporate strategy. It examined the identity`s compatibility with HMC`s brand strategy, style assets and differentiation in the market. The result of the research shows that the new design identity meets HMC`s brand strategy, which has the keyword `refined and confident`. The design identity, also, has strategically appropriate image for the market positioning and automobiles` trend. At the same time, it reflects the style heritage of HMC`s with several core style elements. In particular, the new image position, that seems to be criticized a little bit because of too much sensational style is considered as a step-by-step strategy for taking future premium image in the world auto market.
디자인사고의 의미 비교 : 허버트 사이몬과 IDEO의 디자인사고를 중심으로

In the past, design was considered only a styling on a product's shape or form. But now design has effect on the whole Life, in areas such as politics, economy, business, environment, etc. This design power expanded the design field and changed the design concept as well so that it rapidly raised more concerns for 'design thinking.' The purpose of this study is to clear the definition of 'design thinking' which is the core of the change. For the more detailed research, to understand the meaning of Herbert Simon's 'design thinking,' the background and some of the historical concerns that have emerged with 'design thinking' were researched(based on Nigel Cross's research). Also compared of what the two design thinkers(Herbert Simon, IDEO) think about design thinking. It shows design thinking's common & difference features. In short, define the 'design thinking' clearly after synthesize design thinking's common features through two cases since 20C. In addition, Clear up the 'design thinking' should be more useful to develop variety fields like a society, politic, economy, and the environment more the better. Finally, I suggest some critical points of 'design thinking' today.

This paper focuses on the relationship between each methods used as a part of design research and the system of qualitative study. Qualitative study recognize the world through its unique paradigm, which the basement of its methodologies comparing with that of quantitative study. Quantitative study adapt its research logic such as controled experiment and quantitative analysis, that are useful to research the natural world, to human phenomenon. Qualitative study, however, denies that and takes people`s eye to view their inner mind to the world. In order to achieve that, qualitative study suggests three strategies of its methodologies : relativism, subjectivism, and naturalism. As the result of conducting the comparison between qualitative study and design, they have quite similar aspects on their methodologies and some suggestions to each other, even though one aims to understanding human phenomenon and another to the construction of artificial world. In particular, the relationship that was started from the adapting individual methods of qualitative study to design needs to expand to considering the epistemology.
