ATM 멀티캐스트 기능은 LAN 에뮬레이션과 IP 멀티캐스팅 등의 데이타 서비스를 수행하기 위해 필수적이다. 망이 고속화, 대형화됨에 따라 ABR 멀티캐스트 서비스를 위한 기존의 혼잡제어 기법으로는 한계가 있어, 멀티캐스트 스위치의 새로운 기능 구조 및 RM 셀 통합 알고리즘에 관한 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문의 멀티캐스트 스위치의 기능 구조는 기존의 전송률 기반 트래픽 제어 방식의 스위치와 호환이 가능하고 수신원으로부터 받은 RM 셀의 정보를 이용하여 최소 ER 값을 계산하고, 그 ER 값을 가상채널의 전송률 조정에 이용한다. 이로써 가용 대역폭의 고갈, 수신원의 수, 전송원으로부터 수신원까지의 전파 지연, 버퍼의 크기 등에 관계없이 전송원의 전송률 조정이 가능하므로 셀 손실을 충분히 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문의 RM 셀 통합 알고리즘은 스위치간의 전파 지연과 처리 속도에 관계없이 순방향 RM 셀의 수신 여부에 따라 최소 ER 값을 상부 스위치 및 전송원으로 전송하므로 버스트성의 트래픽에 민감하다. ATM multicast capability is essential for the support of numerous applications, such as LAN emulation and IP multicasting. A new mechanism and RM cell consolidation algorithm suitable for the expected range of traffic patterns, network speeds, busty traffic sources, number of VCs, bandwidth bottelnecks and RTT(Round Trip Time)s are necessary for a multicast traffic management. The proposed scheme is interoperable with a rate-based traffic control scheme. This scheme consolidates all the ER feedback from the leaves and calculates the minimum ER value. The multicast switch returns the ER value to the root source and controls the transmission rate to the minimum ER value by itself. This capabilities make the traffic controlled for ABR multicast service independently on a wide potential range of RTTs from the source to the various leaves, The proposed algorithm dose not generate the BRM(Backward Resource Management) cell. The proposed scheme has a register indicating the number of the received FRM cells and delivers the BRM cell with the Minimum ER to the root source if the FRM(Forward RM) cells are received. This is suitable for the bursty traffic.
