Conventional Charpy-V notch test results were correlated with the fracture toughness reference temperatures (T?) determined by the ASTM E 1921 master curve method for various RPV steels and welds. An emphasis was given to the determination of the various index temperatures from a Charpy energy curve using different curve fitting procedures. In general, the Charpy index temperatures showed a linear correlation with the reference temperatures. The goodness of the correlation might have been influenced by the quality of the curve fitting of Charpy data. Unexpectedly, the T<SUB>mid</SUB> temperature indexing a half of the upper shelf energy showed the best correlation with the reference temperature, while T₂? and T₄₁ still have good correlations.
