This research investigates stochastic estimation of a look-ahead sensor scheme using the optimal preview control for an active suspension system of a full tracked vehicle (FTV). In this scheme, wheel disturbance input to the front wheels are estimated using the dynamic equations of the system. The estimated road disturbance input at the front wheels are utilized as preview information for the control of subsequently following wheels of FTV. The design of optimal preview control is used as a classical linear quadratic Gaussian problem by combining dynamics of the original system and estimation of previewed road inputs. The effectiveness of the preview controller is evaluated by comparing the estimated information with the measured information for different road profiles, where Kalman filter is used for the state-variables estimation of the FTV. This research also considers the reduced order estimation using commonly available sensors in order to decrease the number of sensors and measurements. The simulation results’ using an active suspension system with different preview information shows that the proposed system can be beneficial for the improvement of ride comfort of tracked vehicles without using any specialized sensors for preview information calculation.
ATTITUDE MOTION CONTROL OF THE ACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM WITH TRACKING CONTROLLER
윤일중,L. WU,E. YOUN,M. TOMIZUKA 한국자동차공학회 2015 International journal of automotive technology Vol.16 No.4
This research focuses on the attitude motion controller to improve the ride-comfort and handling capability of a vehicle simultaneously. The attitude tracking controller is designed to let the actual motion of the car body follow the ideally guided value, which is developed conceptually to eliminate lateral and longitudinal forces acting on passengers. The tracking control forces are computed based on the three predicted data proposed for the future ideal roll and pitch motions. In conventional ways, the car body leans outside around sharp turns because of the centrifugal force and it dives forward when braking and leans back when accelerating. However, the attitude tracking controller makes the car body skew inside at cornering, squat at braking, and dive at accelerating. Simulations are performed based on a four degree-of-freedom half car model and then the results show the great potential of the proposed approach.

The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were compared between precious alloy S, and non-precious alloys V.U. and R. And the changes in bond strengths of non-precious alloys with ceramco porcelain, according to surface preparations by sand blasting, longitudinal grinding, transverse grinding, and high polishing, were studied. The test specimens were prepared by firing porcelain doughnuts on the surface prepared alloy rods, and investing in dental stone. The specimens were subjected to shear loading forces. The conclusions drawn from the investigation are as follows: 1. The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were higher in the non-precious alloys U and R, than in the precious alloy S. 2. The bond strengths were in descending order for R alloy, U alloy, V alloy, and S alloy. 3. The bond strengths were highest when the R alloy and U alloy were surface prepared by sand blasting. 4. All bond strength values were lowest when the alloy surfaces were prepared by high polishing.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of metal ceramic crowns made by different techniques. The techniques were metal butt margin technique, platinum foil technique, shoulder powder techniques and wax technique. The latter three techniques were for the fabrication of collarless metal ceramic crowns. Ten crowns were made of each techniques, and marginal fit was evaluated using scanning electron microscope under X200 magnification. The results were as follows. 1. The marginal fit in the descending order were wax technique shoulder powder technique, platinum foil technique and metal butt margin, before cementation, and wax technique, shoulder powder technique, metal butt margin, and platinum foil technique, after cementation. 2. The fit of collarless metal ceramic crowns was comparable to metal ceramic crowns with metal butt margins. 3. There were no statistically significant differences between marginal fit of metal ceramic crowns made by different techniques.

In this research, the improved discrete time preview control theory based on the 4-d.o.f mathematical model for a half car was derived and the discrete time active preview controller was designed. This algorithm contains control strategy dealing with the body force occured at cornering and caused by payload in addition to road disturbance. The algorithm was justified by the comparison between the simulation results obtained by continuous time and discrete time individually. The degree of performance decrease due to the numerical error related to sampling time and time delay was analyzed.

In this research, preview control algorithm for the active suspension systems of a full tracked vehicle is designed based on a 3-D.O.F model and evaluated. The road information obtained by the motion of the first road wheel is utilized to control the vehicle dynamic motion as the preview information applying to the rest of road wheels with time delay. The goal of this study is to improve the ride comfort characteristics of a fast moving tracked vehicle in order to maintain an operator's driving capability. Simulation results in time domain show that the presence of preview information can simultaneously improve all of the aspects of performance. Frequency response curves to four types of inputs, such as heaving, pitching, rolling, and warping input, also demonstrate the merits of preview control in ride comfort.
