Concentration of pollutants and discharge were monitored regularly at paddy field area during irrigation periods. The amounts of irrigation water during irrigation water during irrigation periods in 1999 were 3690mm. The concentration of pollutants in ponded water are high during fertilizer application period. The ratio of discharge of direct runoff Q<sub>D</sub> to the total runoff is 9%. The ratios of the load of direct runoff L<sub>D</sub> to the total load L<sub>T</sub> are 6% for T-N, 16% for T-P and 16% for COD. It was found that the ratios of the concentration are 0.7 for T-N, 1.8 for T-P and 1.9 for COD. The unit load of T-N, T-P and COD during irrigation periods were 12.1kg/㏊, 0.42kg/㏊ and 85.7kg/㏊, respectively

The inflow and outflow loads of T-N and T-P from a paddy field area during the irrigation period were investigated. For the concentration of T-N and T-P, surface water in paddies showed highest among irrigation water, drainage water and percolation water. For T-N, the average concentration of drainage water is higher than that of irrigation water before middle of June but is lower since. It is shown that the L(load)-Q (discharge) equation of T-N has high correlation for irrigation water, but the L-Q equation of T-P has high correlation for drainage water.

The concentration and load of T-N and T-P in paddy field areas in Chongwon, Chungbuk, Korea, were investigated during the irrigation period. The concentration of T-N and T-P in ponded water in paddies is higher than that in the irrigation, drainage and percolation waters. For T-N, the average concentration in drainage water was higher than that in irrigation water until end of Jung, but lower thereafter. The average T-N concentration in irrigation water was 2.3∼3.2mg/ ℓ and therefore the agricultural water quality standard at on-farm level for T-N should be established realistically. The exponential L(load)-Q(discharge) equations have higher coefficients of determination than the linear L-Q equations. Especially, the exponential L-Q equation of T_N showed a coefficient of determination of over 0.9 for irrigation water.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the GLEAMS-PADDY model by applying it to estimate nutrients loading from paddy-field areas. Field data from Soro region of Chungbuk province during May to September 1999 were used for model application. Field data collected include the amounts of rainfall, irrigation water, drainage water, ET, and Percolation in hydrology Part. T-N and T-P concentrations in the rain water, irrigation water, ponded water, drainage water and percolated water were measured. The comparisons of observed and simulated water balance components and nutrient concentrations showed reasonably good agreements and the GLEAMS-PADDY model may be used to simulate nutrients loading from paddy fields. Futher research was suggested to include the erosion submodel in the GLEAMS-PADDY model to better simulate the nutrient behavior. In addition, the pesticide submodel also recommended to be included in order to simulate the various pesticide applied in paddy fields.

The effect of slow release fertilizer application on ponded and percolation water in paddies were evaluated at the experimental plots during irrigation period. We laid out three experimental plots such as standard, 100% slow-release and 80% slow-release. For ponded water, the concentrations of T-N in slow-release plots slowly increase after fertilizing and decrease slowly. The concentration of COD in percolated water was independent of the type of plots. Amount of nitrogen uptake of rice plant in a standard plot was highest at the middle or end of July and was higher than the other plots.

The effect of fertilizer application on ponded and percolation water in paddies were evaluated at the field plots of the Chungbuk National University for irrigation period. The chemical fertilizers were applied to the study plots at an average application rate of 77, 110, 165kgN/ha, respectively. The concentration of T-N, T-P and COD in ponded water was high after fertilizing but greatly decreased with time. The concentration of ponded water greatly depends on the amount and timing of fertilizer applied. Therefore, the decrease in the amount of fertilizer and proper water management may be needed to reduce the runoff loading.

In order to identify the desirable method of taking a rest to reduce fatigue when doing field work which is redundant and boring, we conducted two separate experiments one by one ; 1) monitor and compare six methods - two methods per each three types of taking a rest(non-exercise, exercise, combination). 2) conduct field research to compare the most common method of just sitting and taking a rest with the method of "sitting for 5 minutes and exercising for 5 minutes" which was identified to be the most desirable in the experiment 1. The results are as follows ; 1) The results of the experiment indicates that combination type is more efficient than non-exercise and exercise types in reducing fatigue and "sitting + exercising" is more efficient in reducing fatigue and warming up for the next work than exercising" is more efficient in reducing fatigue and warming up for the next work than "exercising + sitting". 2) The comparison with "sitting and exercising" proven to the most efficient from above and just sitting shows "sitting and exercising" is considered to be more efficient in stimulating the autonomic nervous system and activating the body given the fluctuation of heart rate and blood pressure and more competent in reducing the lactic acid in the body and hereby reliving fatigue than just sitting and taking a rest.
