        Adiponectin Regulation of Glucose Uptake and Growth in Mammary Epithelial Cells

        The objective of the research was to identify the presence of adiponectin receptors and to study adiponectin action on glucose uptake and growth in mouse mammary epithelial cells. These cells expressed adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2. Insulin (10 ng/ml) or insulin like growth factor-I (IGF-I, 10 ng/ml) alone did not alter the degree of AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 genes expression from 0 to 4 h incubation. Prolactin (10 ng/ml) or epidermal growth factor (EGF, 10 ng/ml) alone also did not induce the two genes’ mRNA in the incubation time. Adiponectin (1 μg/ml) alone or pre-incubation of insulin alone (100 ng/ml) for 2 h prior to adiponectin stimulation did not increase 2-deoxy-D-glucose,[1,2-3H] uptake but adiponectin+pre-incubation of insulin significantly increased glucose uptake compare to control (p<0.05). In a similar way, insulin alone or pre-incubation of adiponectin alone (2 h) did not increase glucose uptake but insulin+pre-incubation of adiponectin increased glucose uptake compare to control (p<0.05). Insulin sensitization for 2 h prior to adiponectin stimulation tended to increase glucose uptake response by the following adiponectin stimulation showing small interaction effect between insulin and adiponectin (p<0.1). However, adiponectin sensitization for 2 hours prior to insulin stimulation did not shown interaction effect between adiponectin and insulin (p>0.1). The glucose uptake by both of hormones seems to be not interactive but additive (p<0.05). Adiponectin in the presence of 2% FBS decreased DNA synthesis of mammary epithelia (p<0.05). AICAR (100 or 200 μM), AMPK activator, decreased mammary epithelial cell growth in the presence of 2% FBS. These results indicate that adiponectin pathway has inhibitory effect on mammary epithelial cell growth.

      • SWRO-PRO 복합해수담수화 기술 현황 및 전망

        최근 국내에서 연구개발중인 SWRO-PRO 복합해수담수화 기술은 SWRO 해수담수화 플랜트에서 발생하는 고염도 농축수와 저염도 하수처리수를 각각 PRO 시스템의 유도용액과 원수로 사용하여, 두 용액의 농도차에 의해 발생되는 삼투에너지를 압력교환장치를 통해 회수하여 RO 고압펌프에서 필요한 에너지를 줄이거나, 터빈 형태의 에너지 회수장치 적용을 통해 전력을 생산하는 기술이다. PRO 시스템을 통해 회수된 에너지는 해수담수화 운영비를 절감할 수 있고, 고농도 농축수 방류로 인한 해양생태계 영향을 최소화 시킬 수 있다. 또한, 농축수 처리 비용 및 해수담수화 전력시설 비용을 절감시키는 효과를 기대할 수 있다.

      • 압력지연삼투(PRO) 기술을 활용한 해수담수화 농축수의 삼투압 에너지 회수기술

        역삼투(RO) 해수담수화 공정에 필요한 많은 에너지를 절감하기 위해 최근에 다양한 연구개발이 추진 중이다. 그 중에서 농도차에 의해 발생하는 삼투현상을 이용한 정삼투(FO)와 압력지연삼투(PRO) 기술을 접목한 하이브리드 해수담수화 공정들이 대표적이다. 특히, PRO 기술은 해수담수화 플랜트에서 배출되는 농축수와 하수처리수를 PRO 시스템의 유도용액과 원수로 각각 활용하여 두 용액의 염도차에 의해 발생되는 에너지를 회수함으로써, 기존 역삼투 해수담수화 공정 대비 25% 이상의 에너지 절감이 가능하며, 해수담수화 플랜트의 고농도 농축수를 희석 방류함으로써 해양생태계 파괴 방지 및 농축수 처리비용 절감 등의 효과를 기대할 수 있다.

      • 엑셀카운터 시스템의 규격 분석

        철도신호시스템의 발전으로 사구간, 건널목의 열차 검지 등 엑셀 카운터 시스템을 활용한 열차검지장치 사용이 증대되고 있다. 이에 따라 국내에서 엑셀카운터 시스템의 개발이 이루어지고 있어 해외 수출 등을 고려한 국내 및 해외 규격의 검토가 필요하다. 본 논문은 해외 및 국내에서 사용되고 있는 엑셀 카운터 시스템의 기술사양을 조사하고, 해외 및 국내 기술규격을 비교 검토하여 국내규격의 보완사항을 도출하고자 한다. 또한, 엑셀카운터 시스템의 해외시장 진출 시 국내 규격이 갖는 장단점을 분석하여 시스템의 개발방향을 제안하고자 한다. Rail way signal system development has led to an increasing use of axle counter to detect train in the places such as a dead section, level crossing area, etc. In order to enhance domestic axle counter system, it is necessary to examine the technical specifications of international and domestic axle counter systems. This paper studies international and domestic standards in detail and proposes the system development direction with analysed specifications. Furthermore, their paper derives the requirements for the domestic standard to aim the overseas market.

        Adiponectin에 의한 유선상피세포의 글루코스 흡수 및 성장조절작용

        사료 내 녹용추출물의 첨가가 육계의 증체, 도체 조성 및 품질에 미치는 영향

        Antler of deer have been used in Asia as a dietary supplementary or alternative medical substance. The antler contains various biological active substances, including ganglioside has been known to promote growth, bone hyperactivity, immune function, protein synthesis and various pharmacological action. Therefore, this study was to investigate the effect of antler on productivity of broiler chicks. Feeding trial has a number of 240 broiler chicks was conducted to investigate the effect of antler extract (AE) treated feeds on body performance, breast meat composition and characteristics in broilers. Each treatment had 15 chicks with 4 replications. The supplementation level of AE treated feeds was 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9% in the experimental diets. The results obtained were summarized as follows: Average body weight gain was significantly (p<0.05) increased in broilers fed with AE compared to that of control during overall periods. Especially, the body weight gain of 0.9% AE treated chickens showed highly increased by 6.0% compare to the control. Average feed intake was not significantly different among the treatments. Average feed efficiency was significantly (p<0.05) improved by 4% in broiler chicks fed with AE compare to that of control. Average breast meat composition and concentration of cholesterol were also not different by feeding the AE. In breast meat characteristics, the shear force (kg/0.5inch2) of breast meat showed similar results in all treatments. The cooking loss of breast meat was significantly lower in the chick fed AE than that of control. But the water holding capacity (%) of breast meat was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the chicks fed AE than that of control. In breast meat color of chicks were not significantly different in all treatments. The thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and volatile base nitrogen (VBN) value were not showed different with all treatments. Also, the fatty acids composition of breast meat were showed similar results in all treatments. In conclusion, the dietary feed of AE tended to improve the body weight gain and feed efficiency, but did not influenced breast meat characteristics of broiler chicks

        SWRO-PRO 복합해수담수화 신공정기술의 연구

        SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination technology is recently getting more attention especially in large desalination markets such as USA, Middle East, Japan, Singapore, etc. because of its promising potential to recover a considerable amount of osmotic energy from brine (a high-concentration solution of salt, 60,000 – 80,000 mg/L) and also to minimize the impact of the discharged brine into a marine ecosystem. By the research and development of the core technologies of the SWRO-PRO desalination system in a national desalination research project (Global MVP) supported by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) and Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA), it is anticipated that around 25% of total energy consumption rate (generally 3 to 4 kWh/m3) of the SWRO desalination can be reduced by recovering the brine’s osmotic energy utilizing wastewater treatment effluent as a PRO feed solution and an isobaric pressure exchanger (PX, ERI) as a PRO energy converter. However, there are still several challenges needed to be overcome in order to ultimately commercialize the novel SWRO-PRO process. They include system optimization and integration, development of efficient PRO membrane and module, development of PRO membrane fouling control technology, development of design and operation technology for the system scaling-up, development of diverse business models, and so on. In this paper, the current status and progress of the pilot study of the newly developed SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination technology is discussed.
