        Objective: Recent government policy for encouraging increased birth rate and its historical background were reviewed from the standpoint of a midwife. Suggestions were made for an effective policy to encourage more births. Possible roles of midwives regarding this new policy were also discussed. Methods: Literature reviews and internet research Results: Korea has been very successful in implementing its population control policy since the 1960s. It now considers a policy to encourage increased births due to falling birth rates. There are two opposite sides on this policy. One is positive and the other is negative opinion. The health of women and children should be given top priority in any policy-making or decisions, so that the quality of their lives can be improved. Midwives can be active members in the establishment and implementation of such policies. Conclusion: This policy to increase birth rates can be a good opportunity for midwives to publicize the fact that normal deliveries can be handled economically, efficiently, and safely by them. This will attract more women to employ midwives and use their clinics. If midwifery clinics in the form of a corporation or a consortium with other health care professionals can be established, they could be developed as One-Stop Women`s Health Care Centers, where health needs of, not only pregnant women, but all women over the course of their lifetimes can be satisfied.

      • '98학년도 간호과를 중심으로 한 우리대학 신입생들의 의식조사

        The purpose of this study is to offer a basic date for a qualitative improvement of college education by way of precaution against the 21th century through grasping actual condition and consciousness of freshmen in our College. This study passed out and collected 42 items of questionnaires from 1,480 freshmen, and then compiled statistics by using SPSS/PC+5.0. The results are as follows : First, Freshmen's native place is disproportioned to Taegu and Kyungbuk-do, and it is requested to try for invitational promotion of students in other locations. It is expected for each university or college to actively apply a positive promotional function of college from now on. Accordingly, it is required to newly establish Department of Promotion in the case of this College. Second, the proportion of self-boarding students was 18.1 percents with students at their homes as residence during their school days, and it will be strengthened to guide them. So, it is requested to create a chair of practical life cooking lecture for their adaptation with offering more part-time jobs to self-boarding students preferentially. Third, the proportion of parents both working was 45.3 percents, and it is required to expand to foundation for making school life substantial. It is suggested to expand school service activity as an alternative for the point. Fourth, the proportion of deciding their college while submitting an application was 75.7 percents, and it is necessary to promote college or university positively before the national scholastic ability test. Fifth, the advertisement of newspaper among mass- media made them know freshmen's registration of this college as the proportion of 8 percents, and it is necessary to grasp an activized scheme of promotion through advertisement of newspaper. Sixth, they showed 65.8 percents in 「the other」 item on response of image of Taegu Health College, but it is necessary to develop the college image. Seventh, the activities or content that they wanted to be most helped for college life after admission into this college were guidance of course in life and employment. They seemed to show such a response due to real economic difficulty, but it will be desirable for college to try for it. Accordingly, it is suggested to hold employment-related special lecture of meeting between senior and junior students as an alternative. Eighth, the basis that they have recognized to be most important in their life was true and credible friendship on the realm of sense of value, and it is required to establish new institute of student's life for it. An establishment of organization can be overcome by appling their offices through appointing professor in charge.

      • 病院 단위에서 피임 施術한 婦人들의 看護社會學的 觀察

        Between the January of 1972 and latter part of August of 1973, A Seoul southern citizen hospital, regarding 198 elegible women, we got the following conclusions as result of contraception statistics. (1) Respondent was 198, the graduate from middle school beloning to low income group was the first. (2) In the distribution of age, average age was 34, the thirties was the first (54%) (3) Average number of pregnancy was 4~6, 3~4 times was first. (4) Average number of living children was 3.1, 3~4 children was the most. (5) In the method of contraception, loop was 62%, tubulization was 38% (6) Side action was comparativly rare.

      • 일부 농촌 주민의 우울정도와 그 유발 요인으로서의 스트레스 사건

        This study was investigated to identify the Level of depression and stressful life events of 105 rural inhibitants at Choeng song, kyung pook from 30th July to 3rd August, 1983. The following results were obtained. 1) Mean scores of depression of the total subjects measured by S R Q - D were 18, 62. 2) There was no difference in mean depression scores between sexes. 3) Level of depression was lowest in the 21-30 years old people, and highest in the 51-60 years people. 4) Three major stressful events were economic difficulties, heavy labor and arguments with family members. 5) The higher depressive group has experienced more stressful events than the lower depressive group. It is suggested very urgently that preventive education for mental health and medical and other policies must be covered to rural inhibitants in order to reduce the frequency of stressful events, and strengthen the fruitful and amfitious life of them.

      • 보건사업의 최근 추세와 간호원 역할의 변화

        The human need for the healthy life and welfare is not a privilege but a basic right to the people in all walks of life. The system of health care has had both strengths and weaknesses. A strength, for instance, is fact that we have had the most technically excellent medicin. The weakness, however is that we are not meeting the basic health care needs despite of the excellent medicine, hospital care and a large amount of cost in health care system. In order to solve this problem, the health care system is changing and directing toward disease prevention, health maintenance and health premotion. When we see health care as encompassing not only care of the sick, with all the complex techniques that are possible, but preventive medicine as well, it is no longer enough or one profession to ask itself. Now, as never before, health care delivery calls for the closest cooperation and the widest understanding from all the health professions. Under these situations, the role of the nurse have to be reconsidered. The main purpose of this study is to gain some of conclusions about how the nursing is going to change, the nurse's changed role in health care delivery and the nursing's tasks to prepare for the newly changed nurse's role. The following statements are the conclusions of this study. 1) The professional nurse is expected to function as a responsible member of a health care team by interpreting and carrying out the instruction of others, by collabrating with professional collegues in the planning and delivery of health services, and by acting independently. 2) The professional nurses is expected to assume considerably greater responsibility for delivring primary health care services and longe term services. 3) In the special areas of nursing practice for primary care, the family nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner, the school nurse practitioner, the psychiatric mental health nurse specialist and nurse midwives are to be acted as the main health care providers in rural area and community. 4) The role of the physician's assistant is no more extended role of the professional nurse. The professional nurses to be physician's assistant should be limitted. 5) The nurse practitioners for primary care should rather be educated in the baccalaureate program than the graduate program or postgraduate program for master's degree after deep investigation and experimentation. 6) The representatives of the nursing profession have to participate in enacting the laws related to the nursing and inform the extended nursing activities in details to the public.

      • 看護職勤務者의 賃金에 關한 硏究

        The object of this study, which was carried out from July 1, 1983 to July 31, 1984, is to analize and compare the wage of nurses in the Various hospitals in the urban communities with those of the semilar professional workers, and the result was as follows : 1. General features of nurses ① The average age is 26.41, of the nurses 57.58 percent is under 24 years old the average age of the nurses in the private hospitals(23.24) is 5.3 years younger than that of the nurses in the national or public hospitals(28.59) ② Junior nursing college graduate was 86.1 percent, of which 85.35 percent belong to the national or public hospital nurses and 87.1 percent the private hospital nurses. The percentage slows the similarity between the national or public hospitals and the priivate hospitals. It was found that the prevaling tendency of evaling to hire the nursing college graduates. ③ Of the nurses who were the object of this study 71.5 percent is unmarried 52.34 percent in the national or public hospitals and 97.85 percent in the private hospitals which prefer to employ the Unmarried to the married. ④ The average career in nurse is 2.67 years and the national o r public hospitals (3.45 year) have longer experienced nurses than the private hospitals (1.60 years). 2. Wage Level ① The average of all the unmarried nurses with less than 4 years of experience is 345, 348 won a month. ② Wage index is as follows (100 as total monthly average wages): (a) The national or public hospitals : 88.10 (b) The private hospitals : 107.0 The difference between (a) and (b) is shown as 19.00

      • 産前 分娩에 對한 敎育이 分娩經過에 미치는 影響

        본 연구는 대구시내 2개 조산소와 1개 모자보건센터에서 1988년 7월 4일부터 9월 3일 2개월동안 정상분만을 위해 등록한 초산모 100명을 대상으로 출산 전 교육 프로그램을 실시한 후 분만시 산모의 반응을 통해 교육의 효과를 알아 보기 위하여 실험군(교육 그로그램 실시집단)과 대조군(교육 프로그램 미실시 집단) 각 50명씩을 선정하고 면적과 관찰을 통하여 분만경과시간, 생리적 변화 및 행위적 반응을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 분만경과의 추정시간은 실험군이 분만 제 1 기와 분만 제 2 기 모두 대조군보다 짧았으며 분만 제 2 기에 있어서는 양군간 유의한 차가 있었다. 분만시 호소하는 동통양을 강도, 척도 및 행위적 반응으로 비교해 보면 전 항목에 있어 실험군이 대조군보다 평균점수가 약간 낮았으나 몇 항목을 제외하고는 양 군간 유의한 차는 없었다. 동통의 생리적 반응으로 분만시 동통양을 측정해 본 결과 신체 활력증후인 혈압과 맥박 모두 실험군이 대조군보다 정상범위에 더 가까왔으며 자궁경관 10㎝ 개대시 수축기 혈압과 분만 각기에 있어 이완기 혈압 및 맥박수에 있어서 양 군간 유의한 차를 나타냈다. 정서적 반응 정도(평온상태)는 실험군이 대조군의 평균치보다 낮아 더 평온한 상태로 분만을 경과한 것으로 나타났다. 분만 제 1 기에 있어 분만중 산모의 협조 정도는 실험군이 대조군보다 평균 점수가 낮아 더 협조적이었으며, 자궁경관 4㎝ 개대시와 자궁경관 7㎝ 개대시에는 유의한 차를 나타냈으나 분만 제 2 기는 실험군이 더 높았으며 양 군간 유의한 차는 없었다. 호흡법 수행 정도는 실험군이 대조군보다 더 높아 수행 정도가 양호한 것으로 나타났으며, 자궁경관 4㎝ 개대시와 자궁경관 7㎝ 개대시는 양군간 유의한 차가 있었다. 힘주기 수행 정도는 실험군이 대조군보다 약간 높아 비교적 양호하였으며, 분만 제 2 기에 있어서는 실험군이 대조군의 평균점수가 유의하게 높아 힘주기 수행 정도가 더 양호한 것을 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of childbirth education for expectant mothers on reduction of labor pain, shortness of birth period, safty delivery and mother's participation during birth period. One hundred primigravidas who visided antenatal chinic of two midwifery clinics and one HCH center in Taegu from July 4 to September 3, 1988, were devided into 2 halves. One half were taught childbirth education by midwife in the third trimester of pregnancy and the other half were left alone for control. The results were as follows; The mean time of the first and second stage of labor for the experimental group was shorter than that for control group and there was significant difference between mean timne of second stage of labor in experimental group and mean time in control group. The mean scores of degree of labor pain namely intensity, scale of pain and physical rsponses of mother in experimental group, were less than that of control, but there were no significant differences between mean scores of degree of labor pain experimental and control group. In vital signs as physiological responses of labor pain, blood pressure and pulse rate of experimental group were more closed on normal range than that of control group, and there were significant differences in BP and pulse rate of every stages of delivery between experimental and control group. The mean scores of degree of emotional response(stability) and cooperation on delivery in experimental group were less than that in control group during every stages of delivery. There was significant difference in mean score of degree of mother's cooperation during the first stage of delivery between experimental and control group. There was significant difference in mean score of degree of applying on breathing technique during the first stage of labor between experimental and control group. In bearing down, mean score of practical degree in experimental group during second stage of labor was higher than that in control group.

      • 敎授-學生 人間關係에 影響을 주는 要因 : 看護學校授와 看護學生을 중심으로

        It is the purpose of this study to identify the factors related to the teacher-student relationship in schools of nursing. The total number of subjects in this study were 629 students and 53 teachers from 7 schools of nursing and 2 departments of nursing, College of Medicine in Kyungpook and Kyungnam province. A teacher-student relationship questionnaire based on J.L. Moreno's sociometry and 2 semantic differential scale measuring real-self and ideal-self of the students and teachers and measuring the student's and teacher's perception of the teachers instructional behavior administered to all of the subjects. The results of this study were as follows; 1) Overall nature of the teacher-student relationship did not show an ideal relationship and the response of the ideal teacher-student relationship was higher in teachers than students. 2) The student's negative perception to real-self and real teacher disturbed an ideal teacher-student relationship. 3) Severe differences among RS-RP, IP-RS and IP-RP disturbed an ideal teacher-student relationship. 4) The student's negative perception to the teachers instructional behavior disturbed an ideal teacher-student relationship.
