This study evaluated the dewatering efficiency of inorganic dehydrating agents that contain oyster shells. A filter press dehydrator was used for this study. The experiments were performed by the single injection of calcium-based chemicals, the single injection of oyster shells, and the mixed injection of oyster shells and calcium-based chemicals. The moisture content of the dewatered cake generated after dehydration confirmed that the best dewatering efficiency was found at the mixing ratios of CaCO<sub>3</sub> to sludge, oyster shell to sludge, and inorganic dehydrating agent to sludge of 3:1, 10:1, and 1.5:2.5:1, respectively. The moisture contents exhibited less than 58% when the injection mixing ratio of inorganic dehydrating agent to sludge was 1.5:2.5:1. From EPS, SEM, and EDX analysis, it was found that the calcium adsorbed on the sludge surface could reduce extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) and enhanced the dewaterbility. Based on the above results, it is considered possible to apply inorganic dehydrating agents containing recycled oyster shells in sludge dewatering in order to reduce sludge.

his study undertook to evaluate the performance of stream purification equipment system, a combination of MBP (Micro Bubble Process) and AGBP (Aerobic Granular Biofilm Process). Based on the results obtained, the optimal HRT (Hydraulic Retention Time) of MBP and AGBP were set as 0.72 and 2.4 h,respectively. Results showed that with continuous operation of combined MBP and AGBP,it is possible to achieve a BOD, TSS and T-P removal efficiency of 85, 90 and 94%, respectively. It further confirmed that the quality of the stream water can be purified by increasing the circulation flow through water simulation evaluation, by applying the QUAL-NIER model. Consequently, this purification system can resolve the current problems of stream purification and dry stream.

This study aimed to assay the biological removal of TDS (total dissolved solids) from RO (reverse osmosis) rejected water. Following bio-sorption of TDS with AGS (aerobic granular sludge), the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal were examined. The bio-sorption of TDS after AGS treatment was confirmed by checking for TDS removal efficiency and surface analysis of microorganisms with SEM and EDS. Then, the effects of TDS on biological nitrogen removal and the denitrification efficiency were evaluated using the MBR reactor. According to the results, the bio-sorption of TDS with AGS was 0.1 mg TDS/mg AGS, and we confirmed that the microorganism surfaces had adsorbed the TDS. Biological nitrogen removal efficiency was measured at inhibiting denitrification at 4,000 mg/L of TDS-injected material. Based on this study, it is necessary to pretreat TDS-containing RO rejected water and to maintain TDS concentration lower than a specific value (≤4,000 mg/L), when considering biological nitrogen removal.

In this study, the applicability of MBR process was evaluated to improve processing of personal sewage treatment facilities of 50 m/3day or less. As result of the research, stable discharge water quality could be secured as result of the MBR effector operation according to rate of inflow and inflow load and treatment efficiency of 98% or higher was shown by the membrane filtering method operation for SS, BOD5 it was found that high treatment efficiency of 99% or higher. It is judged that detention time can be designed until 6.9 hr when applying MBR process on personal sewage treatment facilities with high pollution load and that cutback of pollution load can be possible through this study. It was shown that MBR process application reduces an annual cost of 4,829,600 won based on the basic unit calculation results and solves burden of amount of borne by causers according to excess of discharge water quality standards.

This study aimed to evaluate SBR operation cycle for removing the high-concentration organic matter of distillery wastewater in the ginseng processing plant. The experiment was conducted with the use of a laboratory scale SBR reactor and distillery wastewater as the influent. The results indicated an increase in pH from 4.08 to 7.59 of distillery wastewater after aeration for 2 hours. Also, the optimum SBR operation cycle for the removal of organic matter and nitrogen was 2 hr of aeration and 6 hr of anaerobic conditions. Adjustment of proper pH through aeration time is most critical in the SBR operation for distillery wastewater treatment. In this study, we presented an efficient method for distillery wastewater treatment.
