        Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effects of oriental medicine on 69 years old patient with postherpetic neuralgia. Methods : The patient was treated by oriental medical treatments such as herbal medication, Bee venom pharmacopuncture, acupuncture and so on. Results : After the treatment, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) scores and Inconvenience degree(ICD) were decreased. Conclusions : This study shows that the oriental medicine is effective on postherpetic neuralgia.

        당귀사역탕(當歸四逆湯)이 MIA로 유발된 골관절염 흰쥐에 미치는 영향

        Objectives The purpose of this study was to know the effects of Danggwisayeok-tang (Dangguisinitang) extract (DGSYT) on monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)-induced rat osteoarthritis. Methods For this purpose, rats were divided into 5 groups. Normal group was not injected with MIA and orally administered any medication. Control group was injected with MIA and not orally administered any medication. DGSYT100 group was injected with MIA and orally administered 100 mg/kg of DGSYT. DGSYT300 group was injected with MIA and orally administered 300 mg/kg of DGSYT. JoinsT group was injected with MIA and orally administered 20 mg/kg of Joins tablet. DGSYT100 and DGSYT300 groups were orally administered DGSYT during a week before and 3 weeks after based on the day MIA injected. The changes of hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, relative hind paw weight distribution, cytokine in serum, cytokine messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) in joint tissue and histopathological observation (Hematoxylin & Eosin and Safranin-O staining) were measured. Results Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels of DGSYT100, DGSYT300 and JoinsT groups were increased significantly, but these results were within normal range. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and creatinine levels of all groups were not changed significantly. In the change of relative hind paw weight distribution, DGSYT300 and JoinsT groups were decreased significantly 14 and 21 days after MIA injected. Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Leukotriene B4 and Osteocalcin levels of DGSYT300 and JoinsT groups were decreased significantly. In measurement of IL-1β and nitric oxide synthase-Ⅱ mRNA relative quantitative of control, DGSYT100, DGSYT300 and JoinsT groups were decreased significantly. In measurement of TNF-α, IL-6 and Cyclooxygenase-2 mRNA relative quantitative of control, DGSYT300 and JoinsT groups was decreased significantly. In histopathological observation of knee, synovial tissue, cartilage and proteoglycan of DGSYT100, DGSYT300 and JoinsT were well preserved compared with control group. Conclusions According to the results, DGSYT has anti-inflammation and pain relief effects. So it should be suppressed progression of arthritis in MIA-induced osteoarthritis rat.         부자탕 추출물이 골관절염 동물 모델에 미치는 영향

        Objectives The present study was designed to find out the therapeutic effects and possible underlying mechanism of Buja-tang, a herbal complex formula on experimental monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)-induced osteoarthritis. Methods Osteoarthritis models were created via intra-joint injection of MIA (50 μL with 80 mg/mL) in rats. Rats were divided into five groups and each group consisted of seven. Normal group was not injected MIA and did a normal diet. Control group injected MIA and received distilled water. Indo injected MIA and oral administration of 5 mg/kg of indomethacin. BJTL injected MIA and oral administration of 100 mg/kg of Buja-tang. BJTH injected MIA and oral administration of 200 mg/kg of Buja-tang. We analyzed weight-bearing ability of hind paws, oxidative stress related factor, antioxidant protein, inflammatory protein, inflammatory messenger and cytokine in joint tissue. Pathological observation of knee cartilage tissue structures was also performed with hematoxylin & eosin and safranin-O chromosomes. Results Weight-bearing ability of hind paws showed a tendency to reduce pain. The incidence of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and p22phox in articular tissue was significantly reduced, and the incidence of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 and heme oxygenase-1 and superoxide dismutases was significantly increased. The incidence of phosphorylated inhibitor of κBα, nuclear factor- kappa B p65, inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β decreased significantly. In pathological observation, cartilage tissue damaged by MIAs in biopsy has significantly recovered from Buja-tang administration. Conclusions Buja-tang has anti-inflammation, antioxidation and pain relief effects. So this is thought to inhibit the progress of osteoarthritis in rat caused by the MIA.         The purpose of this study was to prove the effectiveness of Korean medical combined treatment for lumbar herniated intervertebral disc(L-HIVD) patients who were admitted to Korean medical hospital. We used acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxa, cupping and chuna treatment. These patients evaluated with visual analog scale(VAS), european quality of life 5 dimension(EQ5D), oswestry disability index(ODI) and pain free walking distance(PFWD). All of these 3 cases of patients showed the improvement of VAS, EQ5D, ODI, PFDW. The results of this study suggest the effectiveness of Korean medical combined treatment for the patients with L-spine disc herniation.

        Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Bunsimgi-eum(fenxinqi-yin) on musculoskeletal pain with qi-stagnation syndrome. Methods : We treated two patients with musculoskeletal pain caused by qi-stagnation. To evaluate the reseult of this treatment, we used the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Range of Motion (ROM). Results : 1. After treatment, all obtained results were improved. The patients’ pain and numbness were remarkably decreased and ROM was fully recovered. 2. In case 1, low back pain and neck pain decreased from VAS 10 to 2. 3. In case 2, low back pain decreased from VAS 10 to 2. neck pain decreased from VAS 10 to 1. Conclusions : As seen in these two cases, Bunsimgi-eum(fenxinqi-yin) has a positive effect in controlling musculoskeletal pain caused by qi-stagnation.

        골다공증을 동반한 하지부골절 수술 후 보행불리 환자 재활에 단순추나요법을 적용한 치험 1례

        Objectives : The purpose of this study was to show the effectiveness of Chuna Manual Therapy applied to a osteoporosis patient with gait disturbance due to lower limb fracture surgery. Method : We focused on Chuna therapy accompanied with acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping treatment and rehabilitation exercise. This case was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Pain Free Walking Distance (PFWD), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Modified Barthel Index (MBI). Result : This patient showed improvement on the VAS from 6 to 3, PFWD from 0 m to 2000 m using a walker and 50 m by selfwalking, BBS from 2 to 28, and MBI from 56 to 89. Moreover the walking state improved from gait disturbance to self-walking. Conclusion : This study suggests that Chuna therapy could be used to improve gait disturbance in patients with osteoporosis and lower limb fracture surgery.

        택사탕의 항산화와 혈중지질에 대한 효과

        Objectives We evaluated the improving effects of Taeksa-tang (TST) using 3T3-L1 cells and C57BL/6 mice were fed on a high-fat diet. Methods The anti-radical activities of TST were studied using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid). The content of total polyphenol was measured using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, whereas aluminum chloride colorimetric method was used for the content of total flavonoid. Moreover, the factors related to lipid profile and the protein expressions such as β-oxidation and anti-oxidant enzyme were analyzed using serum and western blotting of 3T3-L1 cells. Additionally, we examined lipolysis through glycerol appearance in mouse adipose tissue. Results TST treatment showed strong free radical scavenging activities with half maximal inhibitory concentration and the presence of a amount of total polyphenol and total flavonoid. TST treatment significantly increased factors related to β-oxidation such as carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1 and uncoupling protein 2 via the phosphorlyation of liver kinase B1 (LKB1) and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Moreover, the protein expressions of anti-oxidant enzyme and lipolysis were significantly elevated by TST administration. In addition, TST supplementation lowered serum ma-londialdehyde, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels compared with the control group. Taken together, these data suggest that TST treatment regulated lipid parameters via the increase of β-oxidation by LKB1-AMPK signaling pathway. Conclusions TST may have a potential remedy in the prevention and treatment of obesity. Therefore, this study may provide the scientific basis for TST use. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2021;31(2):1-14)

        동물실험에서 한약제재 경구투여가 비만에 미치는 영향에 대한 국내 연구보고 고찰 - 2010년 이후 발표된 논문을 중심으로

        Objectives This study is to review the effect of herbal medicines on obesity in animal models reported in Korean domestic journals after 2010. Methods The Databases (Koreantk, KISS, NDSL) are searched with terms as obesity, and animal study reports on obesity with herbal medicines after 2010 were reviewed. Animal model, intervention, and obesity indicator were extracted. Results 69 articles were reviewed. 57 studies used high fat diet to induce obesity. 56 studies used complex herbal medicines. Most used herbal material for anti-obesity effect is Ephedrae Herba. Each study shows significant changes of obesity indicators. Conclusions These results suggest that herbal medicine is effective treatment to obesity. But we need continuously agonize and research more effective and safe herbal medicine.         산약의 운동수행능력 증진 및 항피로 효과

        Objectives In this study, we analyzed the effect of Dioscoreae Rhizoma on exercise practice ability and blood fatigue variable factor in the forced swimming test. Methods Male mice were divided into four group. Mice were administrated with saline, Discorae Rhizoma extracted by water (DRW), Discorae Rhizoma extracted by 30% ethanol (DRE), red ginseng (RG), orally once per day, for 1 week. Exercise performance was evaluated by exhaustive swimming time and weights. Glycogen contents of liver and soleus muscle were measured at the end of the experiment. In addition, the biochemical parameters such as asparate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen, creatine, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), ammonia, triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and free fatty acid (FFA) were analyzed. Results Both DRW and DRE showed an improvement of swimming endurance compared with control group. Levels of ALT, ammonia, TG, TC and FFA were significantly decreased in both DRW and DRE compared with control group. Levels of AST, Creatine were significantly reduced in DRE group compared with control group. Moreover LDH showed only a tendency to increase in the DRW and DRE groups. Conclusions In summary, the present study showed that Dioscoreae Rhizoma improved in physical fatigue and exercise practice ability and DRE improved the superior than those of DRW.         슬관절 전치환술 환자에 적용한 추나치료 : 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석

        Objectives To assess the effectiveness of chuna manual therapy for patients with total knee arthroplasty. Methods We searched 9 electronic databases(KISS, NDSL, RISS, OASIS, KMBASE, Cochrane Library, PubMed, CNKI, Wangfang data) using the keywords ‘total knee arthroplasty OR total knee replacement’ and ‘tuina OR chuna’ to identify RCTs that investigated the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy after total knee arthroplasty. Results 23 RCTs were selected based on inclusion criteria. The systematic review showed positive effect of using chuna manual therapy after total knee arthroplasty. Conclusions 23 studies reported that chuna manual therapy had significant effects on total knee arthroplasty. However, many studies were exposed to probable high risk of bias. Also, all of the studies were published in one overseas country. Therefore, further research is required using well-designed RCTs to support the effectiveness of chuna manual therapy.
