The stability of diffusion flame formed a bluff body with fuel injection slits was experimentally investigated in some main fuel injection angles, and auxiliary fuel injection conditions. The flame stability limits, temperature distributions and lengthes of recirculation zones were measured in order to discuss the stabilization mechanism of the diffusion flame. The results from this study are as follows. The Stability limits can be improved by the condition of the kind and quanity of the kind and quanity of the injected auxiliary fuel. The lengthes and temperatures decrease with injection of auxiliary fuel, and these phenomena are remarkable when the LPG is injected nearby the recirculation zones. The recirculation zone not only serves as a steady ignition source of combustion stream but also governs stabilization mechanism.

In case of flame maintained by bluff body in a combustor, air stream carried to bluff body shows the characteristics of complex turbulent flow rather than of steady state flow. In this paper, to identify the flame structure and the stabilization mechanism of turbulent diffusion wake flame behind bluff body, a bluff body with fuel injection was located behind the grid, and with the variation of the distance between the grid and bluff body, the influence of turbulence intensity on the stabilization of flame behind bluff body was studied. The conclusions are as follows. (1) The smaller blockage and diameter of grid, the better characteristics of flame stability. (2) Turbulent component which is generated by grid leads to the growth of the width and decrease the length of flame, and intensive combustion occur in the former area. (3) The length of recirculation zone is increased in propotion to the growth of extension duct, and if the grid which generates stronger turbulent component is installed, the length of recirculation zone will be shortened. (4) In this flame near blow off Temperature of the recirculation zone is increased according to increase of the length of extension duct.
