In order to find out the optimum harvest (clipping) date combined with sowing date on yield and nutrient Quality of forage rape which is suitable at the southern part of Korea, Velox, introduced variety was grown from Sep. 1987 to May 1988 at Sunchon National University, and yield and nutrient Quality of plant were observed. As harvest date and sowing date were delayed, the plant length was longest, number of branch and leaves per main stem were increased in the time of full bloom clipping and Sep. 24 sowing but stem diameter was thickest in the early sowing. Fresh yield was heaviest in the time of flowering clipping and Sep. 24 sowing but the most dry matter yield was heaviest in the time of full bloom clipping and Sep. 24 sowing. Content of crude protein was highest and that of crude fiber such as NDF, ADF, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin were lowest in the late time of clipping and sowing. Further more IVDMD was high and dry matter yield and digestible dry matter yield were highest in the time of flowering clipping and Sep. 24 sowing. Judging from the results reported above, at optimum harvest (clipping) date combined with sowing date for yield and nutrient Quality of forage rape seemed to be the time of flowering clipping and Sep. 24 sowing.

To find out the optimum fertilizer level for high yielding variety, Akels, experiment was conducted with 18 compositions of fertilizer levels at the experiment field of forage crop in Sunchon National University from Sep. 1987 to May 1988. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The effects of nitrogen fertilizer on plant growth were large but increasing rate of application in potassium and phosphate fertilizers above 8kg/I0a had negligible effects on plant growth. 2. Raising nitrogen application rate up to 15㎏/10a increased dry matter yield linearly. However, at high nitrogen application rate, 20kg/10a, plants were too leafy and parts of leaves were deceased, so that dry matter yield were decreased. 3. The optimum application rate of fertilizers turned out to be 15-8-8㎏/10a of N-P₂O_5- K₂O. Content of crude protein was highest and that of crude fiber such as NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin were lowest at this rate. Furthermore, lVDMD was high and dry matter yield and digestible dry matter yield were highest at the optimum rate.

In order to obtain basic information for breeding varieties of forage rape which is suitable at the southern part of Korea, seventeen introduced varieties were grown from Sep. 1986 to May 1987 at Mokpo Branch Station, Crop Experiment Station, and yield components and nutrient quality of plants were observed. The results obtained are summarized as follows: l. Forage rape cv. Velox showed higher dry matter yield than any other variety used in the experiment. It showed relatively high content of crude protein and in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD) and low content of NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin. Therefore, it was concluded that Velox was the most suitable variety with high yield and high nutrient quality at the southern part of Korea. 2. The heritabilities of all the observed characters but hemicellulose were estimated to be large. 3. Total dry matter yield showed highly significant positive correlations with plant length, stem diameter, number of main stem leaves, fresh yield, stem dry matter yield, leaf dry matter yield, in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD) and digestible dry matter yield(DDMY). These characters mentioned above showed negative correlations with content of NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin. 4. According to the result of path coefficient analysis, characters highly correlated with total dry matter yield showed large direct effects on total dry matter yield.

This study was carried out for estimating genetic parameters, such as heritabilities, the phenotypic and genotypic correlations of major agronomic characters with 17 cultivars in forage rape. Heritabilities of plant length, number of main stem leaves, fresh yield, total dry matter yield, stem dry matter yield, and leaf dry matter yield were higher, but that of stem diameter were relatively lower. The genotypic correlation coefficients between total dry matter yield and plant length, stem diameter, number of main stem leaves, fresh yield, stem dry matter yield and leaf dry matter yield showed highly positive correlation, those characters gave high direct effect as same level in path coefficient analysis.

This experiment was carried out with 30 growing pigs during a period of 14 weeks to examine the effects of additional levels of 0.1 and 3% of pine-needle meal on body weight gain. 1. The pig fed 1% pine-needle meal showed significantly (P $lt; 0.01) higher body weight gain. 2. Body weight gain of 3% was lower than that of 1%. 3. Effects of pine-needle meal was appeared at early stage of growing period. 4. Pine-needle meal adding by 1% is desirable for growth, economical value, disease control and feed efficiency.

In order to investigate the effect of heated temperature on fuel injection quantity for three kinds of fuels such as pure light oil, blends of rice bran oil with light oil and pure rice bran oil as a parameter of injection pump rack stroke. tests are performed by an injection pump tester at three kinds of cam shaft rotating speed. In this study, also, the effects of rice bran oil properties on the fuel economy and exhaust emissions are experimentally examined by a single cylinder, four cycle, direct injection, water-cooled and agricultural diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The kinematic viscosity of rice bran oil is very high compared with light oil. Also, the oxygen is not included at all in light oil, while the oxygen contents of 10.7% are included in rice bran oil. The fuel injection timing is fixed to 22° BTDC regardless of fuel type, engine loads and speeds. Results show that fuel injection quantity increases as injection pump rack stroke and cam shaft speed are elevated at the same conditions, and as heated temperature is elevated with the exception of light oil. It is also found that brake specific fuel consumption rate and NOx emissions increase, while soot emissions decrease as the blend rate of rice bran oil is enriched. Thus we can conclude that the differences of chemical and physical properties control the combustion process which affects the fuel economy and exhaust emissions of diesel engines using rice bran oil as a fuel.
