The purpose of this study is to develop Lighting Unit for workspace and to propose its application method at the architectural design stage. With Lighting Unit, the designer can easily predict how his decision about architectural modules influences the lighting plan, and can consider other alternatives. Based on the survey of current office buildings, the arrangement of luminaries could be classified into Line, Spot and Square type. Visual environment of various cases considering these arrangement types, architectural modules, and luminarie types are evaluated by lighting simulation.

The purpose of this study is to develop the lighting units for workspace and to propose their application method at the architectural design stage The lighting unit is one of the components of a workspace integrated unit, which can be defined as the planning unit satisfying the environmental comfort criteria of workspace According to the survey of current domestic and foreign office buildings, the luminaire layout types could be classified into the line, spot and square type Various simulation cases were set up considering these layout types, architectural modules, and luminaire types Finally, forty-four lighting units were developed by RADIANCE simulation With these lighting units, the designer would be able to easily predict how his decision about architectural modules influences the lighting design, and can consider other alternatives

Atrium is largely designed nowadays to service a public space and to provide a pleasant space for the occupants. However atrium design is often focused only on aesthetic aspect overlooking environmental comfort. As a result, numerous problems were raised that involves overheating and local discomfort in cooling and intermediate period. Therefore it is important to plan proper openings to improve thermal environment in atrium.<br/> In this study, thermal environmental evaluation was performed to estimate possible issues in atrium and opening plans were presented that improve thermal environment in atrium. The results show that shading device is needed to reduce incoming solar radiation. Also, upper and lower openings are essential for natural ventilation and the larger the size of openings are more effective but the same portion of upper and lower openings should be maintained.

Sustainable housing design can contribute to dramatically reduced energy usage and can be applied to all new building projects. This paper explores the potential in Korea of applying available energy efficient building technologies. The objective was to determine the degree of energy reduction that can easily be achieved in new building design. The pilot project is providing some prototypes with display units which incorporate principles of sustainable design and performance utilizing the eco-design objectives. This building challenges ingrained preconceptions about system designs for four energy saving levels(40%, 60%, 80% and zero energy) and exposes barriers to low energy buildings posed by new standards and guidelines.
