Vol.42 No.-

Generally we have difficulty in removing oil using mechanical devices because recovery rate and recovery efficiency varies remarkably when operating conditions. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of operating conditions on the rate of recovery for the spilled oil using a disk type skimmer. For each set of experiments depth of immersion, oil film thickness and the circumferential speeds were varied systematically to find the effects on the recovery rate. The results show that recovery rate is dependent on the depth of immersion and the highest rate of oil recovery shows in the case of a ratio of immersion. For the removal of spilled oil the optimal circumferential speed can be found as the critical value to reach the saturated recovery rate for a given oil film thickness and depth of immersion.

Vol.44 No.-

Generally we have difficulty in removing oil using mechanical devices because recovery rate and recovery efficiency varies remarkably in accordance with operating conditions. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of operating conditions on the rate of recovery for the spilled oil using a belt type skimmer. For each set of experiments depth of immersion, contact angle and the circumferential speeds were varied systematically to find the effects on the recovery rate. The result show that rate of loss is dependent on the instability and the highest rate of oil loss shows in the case of the circumferential speed 61-380 mm/s and the highest contact angle.

B Vol.21 No.5

Oil spill over the sea and the river become a serious problem in these days. Two different approaches are used to clean up the spilled oil by means of chemical dispersion and mechanical devices. If it is possible, removing spilled oil using mechanical devices are highly desirable in order not to worry about the secondary contamination from chemical treatment. One of the major unsolved problems using mechanical devices has been the recovery of highly viscous oil spill. So, the systematic experimental data for treating very viscous oil are still wanting. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of the rotational direction of the belt skimmer on the rate of oil recovery using Bunker C oil. Three different situations, namely, upward, downward and up-and-downward pickup rate have been investigated for variable belt speed. The results showed that the rate of oil recovery for downward pickup was much higher than that for upward pickup. The major mechanism to recover the oil using a belt skimmer has been confirmed that oil sticks to the belt surface while moving to the water rather than moving upward. For the removal of spilled oil the optimal belt speed under the present experimental conditions was found to be about 200 ~ 270 mm/s just before the starvation started. The present experimental results would provide the basis for understanding the performance characteristics and physics of various types of skimmers.

B Vol.22 No.12

Removal of spilled oil over the sea and the river has become one of the urgent problems in these days. Removing oil using mechanical devices was recommended because chemical dispersion could cause the secondary contamination in the environment. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of operating conditions, especially, the angle between the belt and the fluid surface on the rate of recovery for the spilled oil using a belt skimmer. Three different types of operation, namely, upward pickup, downward pickup and up-and-downward pickup situations have been investigated for various contact angles, belt speeds and oil thicknesses to find the effects on the recovery rate. The highest rate of oil recovery was found in the case of a contact angle of $45^{\circ}$ and downward pickup. Furthermore, an optimal belt speed was found to reach the saturated recovery rate for a given oil thickness.

Vol.40 No.2

Generally we have difficulty in removing oil using mechanical devices because recovery rate and recovery efficiency decrease from starvation and loss of removal remarkably. In the present study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of operating conditions on the rate of recovery for the spiled oil using a drum type skimmer. For each set of experiments clearance between drum type disc in current conditions and the circumferential speeds were varied systematically to find the effects on the recovery rate. The results shows that recovery rate is dependent on the clearance between drum type disc for the starvation and the highest rate of oil recovery shows in the case of a clearance 20mm in the depth of immersion 53mm and oil film thickness 2.5mm. For the removal of spilled oil the optimal Circumferential speed can be found as the critical value to reach the saturated recovery rate for a clearance between drum type disc in current conditions.

Gastroprotective Effects of Glutinous Rice Extract against Ethanol-, Indomethacin-, and Stress-induced Ulcers in Rats

Vol.50 No.1

This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of an orally administered aqueous extractof glutinous rice (GRE) to protect against acute gastric mucosal lesions inducedby ethanol, indomethacin, and water immersion restraint stress in rats and to characterizethe active substances responsible for the protection. GRE was shown to dose-dependentlyprevent the gastric lesions induced by the above ulcerogenic treatments atdoses of 30 to 300 mg/kg. GRE treatment increased the gastric mucin content and partiallyblocked the ethanol-induced depletion of the gastric mucus layer. Also, it increasedthe nonprotein sulfhydryl concentration in the gastric mucosa. The gastroprotectiveaction of GRE was markedly enhanced by co-treatment with 4-8 mg/kg tea extracts. The activity of GRE was completely lost by heat treatment at 80oC for 3 min or treatmentwith 0.01% pepsin at 37oC for 1 h. Protein extraction studies indicated that prolaminsare involved in the gastroprotective activity of GRE. Our results suggest that glutinousrice proteins are useful for the prevention and treatment of gastritis and peptic ulcer.

In the pre sent study a series of experiments were carried out to study the effect of operating conditions, especially, the oil thickness of spilled oil on the rate of recovery for the spilled oil using a belt skimmer. The type of operation, downward pickup situation have been investigated for various contact angles, belt speeds and oil thicknesses to find the effects on the recovery rate. The results show that rate of oil recovery was influenced contact angle and oil thickness because of starvation and instability.

Vol.19 No.1

The two-phase flow is generated variation of turbulent energy by the reciprocal action between fluid and particle flows. In this paper investigated to the influence of partide flow that measured friction factor in the pipe flows. Using pipes diamenter are 0.02m, 0.032m. As a result of an experimental, it turned out that; 1)The friction factor of two phase flow were decreased the influence of particle when the Reynold number increased at the laminar flow region. 2)The minimum of friction factor ratio appeared about Reynold number 10⁴and friction factor influenced relative size of paticle by the pipe diameters.
