        The fluorescent substances studied by B. Gudden and R. W. Pohl in 1920, and it's research was peaked in 1960, but it has many problems to solute the light efficiency and light characteristics for the practical sciences. Sylvania Research team began to investigate the illumination problems, and after, RCA, GE groups studied to improve lamp, TV braun tube, logic circuits and light amplifier in solid state, also. The purpose of our research is to make the photoluminescence substances in our countrie's own ability, and to analyzing and investigating the radiation. The photoluminescence powder (ZnS : Mn) was responsed the visual light band (5800A) in the spectral characteristics, and we are feeling the necessities and valuations of these results to offer the materials for another researches.

      • 20KJ Apparatus for the Production of Dense Plasma Focus

        고밀도의 플라스마 (plasma)를 발생시킬 수 있는 gas puff z-pinch (GPZP)를 설계하여 제작하였다. 이 장치에 공급하는 최대전력용량은 2KW이며 실험에서는 동작공급전력은 720W, 환주파수 100KHz, 싸이클주기 10㎲, 회로저항 1.59mΩ, 인덕턴스 (inductance) 25.1nH로 최대순간전류를 1MA까지 흘릴 수 있다. 이 장치에서 주입개스 종류, 압력, 인가전압을 조절함으로써 자외선, 중성자, hard X-ray및 soft X-ray를 발생시킬 수 있고 현재 첨단과학분야의 고밀집적논리회로 (VLSI) 칩 (chip) 제작의 광원인 soft X-ray를 연구할 수 있다. A new type of the gas puff z-pinch (GPZP) plasma apparatus consists of disk electrodes is developed and diagnostics of dense plasma focus (DPF) have been made. The collapse fronts of the current sheets are well organized and dense plasma foci are produced on the axis by the collapse of the current sheet which compresses and heats the plasma. This apparatus has 2KW (power supply capacity), 720W (operating power), 100KHz (ringing frequency), 10㎲(cycle pericd), 1.59Ω(resistance), 25.1nH (inductance) and 1MA (peak current).

        The objectives of the project are to monitor an abnormal level in Andong area and to provide a base-line data on enviromental radiation/radioactivity levels in case of any radiological emergency situation. The project is important in view of protecting the public health from the potential hazards of radiation and keeping up the clean environment. This report summarizes and interprets environmental radiation/radioactivity monitoring samples : Gamma exposure rates, airborne dust, precipitation, fall-out and drinking-water. Enviromental sample : grain products, pulses, vegetables, milk products, fishes/shellfish, eggs products meat products and seaweeds. Among the all 1999 radiological monitoring and environmental datas in Andong area were not found the extraordinary datas. And a nation-wide environmental radiation/radioactivity level survey results were all background levels attributed to terrestrial and cosmic radiation.

        Advances in X-ray lithography technology are occurring at a promising rate. Impressive progress has been made in the development of high-intensity sources, mask membrance and patterning technology, precision mask-to-wafer alignment, and faster, high-resolution X-ray resists. The concept of using this inherently low defect lithographic technique for manufacturing submicron integrated circuits by 1985 and beyond, is realistic. Current X-ray Lithographic research systems replicate integrated circuit patterns on a full wafer with a single exposure, but step-arid-repeat exposure systems are being developed for more advanced submicron applications. Both system types are discussed, and performance trade analyses are presented to show the relative merits of each approach. Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuit patterning using X-ray Lithography will come of age in the decade of the 2000s. Critical technology associated with mask membrance patterning, precision mask-to-wafer alignment, high-intensity sources, and fast high-resolution resists is being addressed, understood and solved on an industry-wide basis. This high level of progress should continue throughout the decade. Prototype X-ray equipment is expected to be on the market by 1983~85 that will provide a limited production capability to meet early knowledge-building needs for submicron device fabrication and will expose either 75 or 100mm diameter wafers. As integrated circuit (IC) performance requirments are tightened in areas of resolution (0.5 micron or smaller, minimum features) and overlay accuracy (0.1~0.2 micron), the need for more advanced equipment will become necessary. X-ray step-and-repeat equipment is expected to fill this role. The transition from full field to subfield equipment will most likely occur in the mid-1980s. By the end of the decade X-ray lithographic equipment will be at hand for submicron VLSI device replication at increasingly higher volumes.

      • Electrical and Optical Characteristics and Laser Application of HCP Device

        HCP array for pumping Ti^(3+):Al₂O₃ laser was performed in this experiment Ti-sapphire laser which has life time of 3~4μsec of the excite state of Ti^(3+) ion in the crystal host. The electrical efficiency of HCP was 67%. The maximum out put energy 0.615J at 40㎸ without explosion by HCP were achieved. The slope efficiency of HCP was 0.014%, and HCP can occur extremly high plasma temerature(Te=lkev) so that it can be applied for plasma focus as X-ray source.

        Characteristics of Anthropogenic Soil Formed from Paddy near the River

        Anthropogenic soil in cropland is formed in the process of subsoil reversal and the refill of soil into cropland. However, there was little information on the chemical properties within soil profiles in anthropogenic soil under rice paddy near the river. In this study, we investigated the chemical properties within soil profiles in the anthropogenic soil located at 4 sites in Gumi, Kimhae, Chungju, and Euiseong to compare with the natural paddy soil near the river. Among particle sizes, the sand content decreased under soil profiles but the silt and clay contents increased compared to the natural paddy soil in soil profiles. Organic matter content in topsoil of anthropogenic soil was lower than in that of natural soil, which was shown the contrary tendency within soil profiles. Also, the soil pH, available P2O5, and exchangeable cations were higher in anthropogenic soil compared to natural paddy soil at topsoil, which was maintained these tendency into soil depth. Nutrients may be equally distributed in anthropogenic soil during the process of refill in paddy soil near the river. This results indicated that anthropogenic soil would contribute to carbon sequestration, the mitigation of compaction, and reduction of fertilizer application in paddy soil. Therefore, characteristics of anthropogenic soil can be used for the soil management in cropland.

        The An-dong region that includes Choon-yang, Yeong-ju, Ye-chon, Yeong-yang, Ui-sung is located in a basin bounded in the north-east and north-west by the Mt. Ranges of Tae-back and So-back, and because of the closeness to An-dong and Im-ha dams it has come to experience a large variation in climate. Due to an excessive amount of evaporation of moistures from poen surfaces of these dams in the region it has not been possible to avoid fogs and because of the cooling effect accompanying the evaporation it has come to experience greater variation in temperature. The weather of the region between 1988-1992 may be characterized as follows; 1) Mean air temperature : Choon-yang and Yeong-ju districts was low than another districts. 2) Maximum air temperature : Yeong-yang, Ui-sung districts was high and Choon-yang was low. 3) Minimum air temperature : Choon-yang district was low as the mean temperature 3.3-4.8℃ 4) Relative humidity : Except the Ye-chon district, other districts are high and its the mean humidity is 70%. 5) Precipitation : Choon-yang, Yeong-ju and Ye-chon districts was much than others. 6) Wind velocity : Yeong-yang district was strong and Ui-sung was weak. 7) Sun-shining : Shining dates of Yeong-ju district was much. 8) Date of fog : An-dong and Yeong-yang districts was much.

Sylvania research groups began to investigate the illumination problems in 1947, and after, R. C. A and G. E groups studied to improve lamp, T. V braun tube, logic circuits and light amplifier in solid state, also. The purpose of our research is to make the photoluminescence substances in our countries own ability, and to analyzing and investigating the radiation. ZnS: Cu, Cl photoluminescence cell that we made was responsed the visual light band 4000Å∼6000Å (peak brightness: 5200Å) in the spectral characteristics by U. V light source, and We are feeling the necessities and valuations of these results to offer the materials for another researches.
