In this paper, a technique ot estimate center positions of the circular parts under noisy condition is presented. The circle chords are segmented from the circle with successively varying angle and weighted to reduce the center estimation errors effected by the orientations of the circle chords. The weighting factors for variable length chords are adaptively detemined according to the error contribution of each chord in center estimation. Robust estimation of the center positions of the circular parts are possible even though the edge informations are partially contaminated by the non-uniform lighting or the background textures. Computer simulations for several images which are obtained for same object under real environment y camera, show that the proposed techniqeu yields 1.85 and 2.77 of estimated error-distribution for center position and radius in mean square error, that the proposed has more robust estimation than those of the conventional methods.

Based on the curve segment grouping, an efficient recognition of round objects form partially occuluded round boundaries is proposed. Curve segments are extracted from an image using a criterion based on the intra-segment curvature and local contrast. During the curve segment extraction the boundaries of pratially occluding and occuluded objects are segmented to different curve segments. The extracted segments of constant intra-segment curvature are grouped to different curve segments. The extracted segments of constant intra-segment curvature are grouped nto a round boundary by the proposed grouping algorithm using inter-segment curvature which gives the relatinships among the curve segments of the same round boundary. The 1st and the 2nd order moments are used for the parameter estimation of the best fitted ellipse with round boundary, and then recognition is perfomed based on the estimated parameters. The proposed scheme processes in segment unit and is more efficient in computational complexity and memory requirements those that of the conventional scheme which processed in pixel units. Experimental results show that the proposed technique is very efficient in recognizing the round object sfrom the real images with apples and pumpkins.

The cultural conditions of the osmophilic red color yeasts (Strain L$_{1}$, L$_{2}$, L$_{3}$ and L$_{4}$) isolated and identified in the previous report were examined and the results obtained were as follows ; 1. The optimum medium for growth of these osmophilic red color yeasts was soy sauce medium. 2. These strains were grown exceedingly well on the medium containing 3 percent of NaCl but somewhat restrained on the medium containing 6% or more. 3. The optimum temperautre for growth of these strains was 25.deg.C and their lethal temperature was 68.deg.C(treatment for 5 minutes). 4. The optimum pH for growth of these strains was 6.0.
Effects of C and Si on Strain Aging of Strain-Based API X60 Pipeline Steels

Four types of strain-based API X60 pipeline steels were fabricated by varying the C and Si contents, and theeffects of C and Si on strain aging were investigated. The 0.05 wt% C steels consisted mainly of polygonal ferrite(PF), whereas the 0.08 wt% C steels consisted of acicular ferrite (AF). The volume fraction of AF increasedwith increasing C content because C is an austenite stabilizer element. The volume fractions of bainitic ferrite(BF) of the 0.15 wt% Si steels were higher than those of the 0.25 wt% Si steels, whereas the volume fractionsof the secondary phases were lower. From the tensile properties before and after the aging process of the strainbasedAPI X60 pipeline steels, the yield strength increased and the uniform and total elongation decreased,which is the strain aging effect. The strain aging effect in the strain-based API X60 pipeline steels was minimizedwhen the volume fraction of AF was increased and secondary phases were distributed uniformly. On theother hand, an excessively high C content formed fine precipitates, and the strain aging effect occurred becauseof the interactions among dislocations and fine precipitates.
