        徐龍得,李大一,李壽鍾 고려대학교 의과대학 1982 고려대 의대 잡지 Vol.19 No.1

Influence of prostaglandin F_(2α) on tissue mast cells in the female albino rat was studied. One hundred oophorectomized female albino rats were treated with 1) prostaglandin F_(2α), 2) progesterone, 3) progesterone & prostaglandin F_(2α). Tissues from uterus, skin and mesentery were obtained for mast cell count on the Ⅰ_(st), 2_(nd), 3_(rd), 4_(th), 5_(th) day. Results obtained were as followings. 1. Prostaglandin F_(2α) treatment significantly increased mast cell count in the uterine tissue compared with control group. 2. Mast cell count in the uterine tissue after progesterone injection was significantly decreased on the 3^(rd) day, but there was no significant changes on the other experimental group. 3. Mast cell count after the injection of prostaglandin F_(2α) and progesterone in the uterine tissue was increased, but the increase was not so significant as compared with that of prostaglandin F_(2α) group. 4. The number of mast cell in the skin tissue was significantly increased on the Ⅰ_(st) and 4_(th) day after injection of prostaglandin F_(2α). 5. The number of mast cell in the skin tissue was significantly decreased on the 5_(th) day after injection of progesterone. 6. The number of mast cell in the skin tissue after injection of progesterone and prostaglandin F_(2α) was increased on the Ⅰ_(st)day, but was not so significant as compared with that of prostaglandin F_(2α) group. 7. The number of mast cell in the mesentery tissue after the injection of prostaglandin F_(2α) was signinficantly increased. 8. In the progesterone group, the number of mast cell in the mesentery tissue was significantly decreased on the Ⅰ_(st) day, but increased on the3_(rd) and 4_(th) day. 9. In the progesterone and prostaglandin F_(2α) group, the number of mast cell in the mesentery tissue was increased on the 2nd and 3_(rd) day, but not so marked as compared with that of prostaglandin F_(2α) group.

        사랑과 죽음 : 『욕망이라는 이름의 전차』연구

        서용득 현대영미어문학회 2000 현대영미어문학 Vol.18 No.1

Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) has been studied by sympathetic view of Blanche. So Stanley is considered as antagonist by many scholars and critics to cause Blanche's frustration and total destruction in her life. But from the beginning of this play has another possibility of interpretation. Blanche is connected with love and death. The long story of Blanche's downfall may be seen as a process of dispossession that begins with her loss of Belle Reve. Her rejection of Allan has caused her spiritual desolation, sexual longing, and psychological dislocation. She doesn't find her real love because of her false indentity, loss and alienation at the end of this play. So the absence of her real love appears as abnormal love, and then it results in her spiritual death being helpless have concern, responsibility, respect and knowledge as the basc elements of love. But Stanley is connected with love only. He defends his real love against Blanche. He has examined her past and about her weakness and problems thoroughly. And then he attacks her to defend his love including his wife and other people in New Orleans. So he recovers his love and is baby is born in the end. In conclusion, true love is the most important in our lives.

문화 텍스트로서의 데이비드 매멋의 극: American Buffalo와 Glengarry Glen Ross를 중심으로

        서용득 현대영미어문학회 2017 현대영미어문학 Vol.35 No.4

American Buffalo (1975) is a savage satire on the collapse of American values. Like the American buffalo itself, all the characters have fallen victim to greed. In Glengarry Glen Ross (1983), business comes more directly under fire. At the end of the play, salesmen are failures acting under the delusion of success. Mamet’s two plays have a reexamination of the failure of the American dream as their ideological backdrops. He elaborates on the American dream in his plays as real and substantial when in fact it is only a myth degraded into fantasy. There are three categories of culture in the two plays related to the American way of life as culture. First, culture has physical things such as money and leads. Second, culture is connected to behavior and life patterns such as business ethics and human relationships. Third, culture is interrelated to the thoughts and values of the American dream. These three categories are interconnected to one another in forming the characters’ way of life. .

샘 셰퍼드의 극에 나타난 가족 문화 코드 ―『굶주리고 있는 계층의 저주』를 중심으로―

        서용득 현대영미어문학회 2013 현대영미어문학 Vol.31 No.1

In Curse of the Starving Class(1977) the condition of the Tate family is used as a metaphor for the human condition itself. Lack of any real conduct or understanding is the substance of Shepard's American family. Weston and Ella have been planning to sell the family property. In this family there is little support offered by one person to another. Each individual is primarily concerned with his or her own dream. All the dreams of escape of the Tates are doomed to fail. In Act 3 Weston cleans himself up and talks about renewing his family life. He transforms entirely as he strips off his old clothes and changes into new ones. Since he comes to know that they are bound by blood, he realizes that there can be acceptance and transcendence with all its conflicts. After Wesley dons of his father's discarded clothes, he also goes through a ritual of rebirth. He now accepts his responsibility and right as the oldest son in the Tates. Conflicts in the play are closely related to the way of life as culture. There are three categories of family culture in this play. First, culture has physical things such as house, kitchen and refrigerator. Second, culture is connected to behavior and life pattern such as the Tate family's escaping and returning. Third, culture is interrelated to thoughts and values of the Tates' identity. These three categories are interconnected to one another in forming the characters' way of life.

      • Long Day's Journey into Night의 구조 연구

        서용득 慶尙大學校 1990 論文集 Vol.29 No.1

Long Day's Journey into Night is a tragedy with four heroes. It is a tragedy because each of its protagonists is partly responsible for his own destruction and partly a victim of the family fate. In this study I intend to examine the structure of this play in terms of temporal structure, spatial structure, and thematic structure. In temporal structure the ordered sequence of events which are Tyrone's stinginess, Mary's drug addiction and regression in the past, Edmund's illiness, and Jamie's dissipation is episodic plot or pattern plot. Tyrone's stinginess is the main concern of the Tyrones and the main topics of their dialogues. They evoke the whole past of the family and reveal every aspect of its interrelationships. The temporal structure of this play is that a series of suggestion or suspicion-accusation-denial-approval-resignation. In this play O'Neill does not only moves backwards in time, he also makes the past present. Spatial structure is composed of character-grouping and atmosphere. Character-grouping by contrast in this play is the conflicts between Tyrone and Mary, Tyrone and Jamie, Tyrone and Edmund, Mary and Jamie, Jamie and Edmund. The conflicts between characters progresses the mechanics of defenses, accusations, and counter-accusations, followed by regrettable and peacemaking atmosphere. Atmosphere is the fog which is the symbol of man's inability to face the reality or his destiny, foghorn which evokes some fatal defeat and pain of present, alcohl which reveals each character's inner mind. In thematic structure, interacture of temporal structure and spatial structure develops the theme of the play. It discloses the secrets and the relationships of the family, and so the whole play has the structure of revelation-confession-understanding. O'Neill intends to depict resignation to fatal tragedy of the family and ambivalence in the lives of the Tyrones. All the Tyrones are caught in a web of circustance and are under the influence of Forces which control and shape their destinies. The family, in brief, is chained together by resentment, guilt, recrimination; yet, the chains that hold it are those of love as well as hate. In this play O'Neill allows emotion to fuel his ideas and even to transcend his ideas.

      • The Iceman Cometh의 구조 연구

        서용득 慶尙大學校 1987 論文集 Vol.26 No.2

Literature is an organic whole which is composed of the temporal structure and the spatial structure. In general the former is the ordered sequence of events that we call the plot, and the latter character-grouping by contrast and likeness, and atmosphere as well. These two kinds of structure is especially the characteristics of drama. The systematic study on the structure lead us to understand the meaning of play and the genius of dramatist. In this study I deal with the structure of Engene O'Neill's later play The Iceman Cometh(1946). This study is to contribute to our understanding of the merits of The Iceman Cometh and O'Neil's genius. In The Iceman Cometh temporal structure is composed of two plots. One as main plot is the story of the motive of Hickey's killing his wife Evelyn and the other as sub plot is the story of the motive of Parrit's betraying his mother. Sub plot intensifies and broadens main plot by ampliffication. But there are similarities and distictions between main plot and sub plot. In his play special structure is the atmospere and character-grouping such as the relationship between Hickey and Larry, that of Hickey and down-and -outs, that of Parritt and Larry, and that of Hickey and Parritt. The conflict or contrast dn likeness between characters are brought about in spatial structure. The interaction of temporal structure and spatial structure in the play cast the significance of this play which is connected with the pipe dream to the audience or reader. The protagonist Hickey's pipe dream, that he loved his wife, is a lie : he hated her for the guilt she made him feel. He killed her to rid himself of her forgiveness and his guilt. He was the biggest pipe dream of all-that he loved his wife. The play's witness and spokesman Larry Slade too no longer has pipe dream at play's end, thanks to Parritt's suicide, which makes Larry realize he is involved with others, and thanks to Hickey's taunting throughout the ply. Larry and Hickey provide the play's major conflict : Hickey is selling the truth: Larry is upholding the necessity of the pipe dream. In this play O'Neill emphasizes that the lie of pipe dream is what gives life to the derelicts. Thus, this play contains a dark view of man's condition, and is a startling contrast to the play written just before the twelve-year silence, Day's Without End.
