The possibility of improving amplification characteristics and lowering the melting point of bismuth-doped aluminosilicate glass as a new amplification material, which has broadband near-infrared emission at 1300 nm regions, was investigated. Spectroscopic analysis of bismuth-doped aluminosilicate glass shows that the addition of an alkali metal oxide, $Li_{2}O$ increases FWHM of fluorescence spectrum but decreases fluorescence intensity, while $GeO_{2}$ composition increases both FWHM of fluorescence spectrum and fluorescence intensity. Also, excellent optical amplification gain characteristics in a $GeO_{2}$-added sample were observed. 근적외선에서 발광하는 새로운 증폭 매질인 Bi 첨가 알루미노실리케이트 유리의 용융 온도를 낮추면서도 증폭 특성이 향상될 수 있도록 금속 산화물을 첨가한 샘플을 제작하여 분광학적 특성을 분석하였다. $Li_{2}O$의 조성비가 증가하면 형광스펙트럼의 반폭치는 증가하지만 형광 강도가 저하되고, $GeO_{2}$의 영향으로는 반폭치와 형광 강도가 동시에 증가하였다. $GeO_{2}$를 첨가한 시료에서 광 증폭 특성을 측정한 결과, 이전의 벌크 샘플에서 얻었던 것보다 우수한 증폭 특성을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다.

Water quality and contamination of sediment is a growing concern in the Iksan stream of Korea. Heavy metal contamination and changes in the physicochemical properties of the stream were evaluated. Water and sediment samples were collected from six sites during the dry and rainy seasons; pH, DO, EC, ORP, turbidity, $PO_4$-P, $NO_3$-N and selected heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Ni, As, Zn, Cd, Hg) were measured. Results showed almost no change in pH between seasons. DO was highest at site 2 (~2.63 mg/L) in the dry season; EC (1,540 ms/m) was greatest at site 1 in both seasons. The ORP gradually increased from the dry to rainy season at most of the sites and was highest at site 5. Turbidity was highest at site 1 and gradually decreased from the dry to rainy season at all sites except site 3. $PO_4$-P ranged from a high of 1,193mg/L at site 1 to in the dry season to a low of ~1.2 mg/L at site 4. In contrast, $NO_3$-N was highest at site 3 in the rainy season (12,531 mg/L). Among the heavy metals measured, Cu and Zn concentrations were highest at all sediment sites. Cu and Zn are added to livestock feed to improve reproductive rates and can be carried to the stream with manure. Transport of sediment and heavy metals during the rainy season is the major source of stream contamination and it is important to continue monitoring and take necessary action in these areas.

Residual drug substances have been suggested to act as xenobiotics potentially affecting the growth of various living organisms in the environment. Here, we screened 70 pharmaceutical ingradients of which existences were verified in environment for their abilities to modulate plant growth and developmental processes. We introduced two types of transgenic Arabidopsis lines harboring pDR5:GUS and pARR6:LUCIFERASE which were engineered to report the signal intensities of two major phytohormones (i.e. auxin and cytokinin), respectively. A dozens of chemicals modulating the signaling outputs of auxin and cytokinin were selected and subjected to be further monitored in physiological aspects. As a representative among them, dichlofenac which was an active ingradient of many nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) significantly inhibited the growth of Arabidopsis seedling. In addition, Arabidopsis exhibited the altered tropisms and root systemic architectures (RSA) in the presence of 10 micromolar dichlofenac. The expressions of several auxin and cytokinin responsive genes were also modified according to the exogenous treatment of dichlofenac. Combined with other current knowledges, we suggested that dichlofenac might act as inhibitor of oxygenases involved in auxin biosynthesis. Similarly to dichlofenac's case, our approaches will be broaden to identify more pharmaceutical ingradients modulating plant growth, which will provide the insights into environmental biology of medical xenobiotics yet to be known.

For hydraulic equipped machines the routing design of hydraulic hoses is one of significant factors in preventing interferences and improving kinematic functions between mechanical parts. High pressure hydraulic hoses are in general made of composite materials such as rubber and wire braid for reinforcement. Therefore material properties of the hoses have non-linear behavior and make difficult to compute routing using analytical methods. This study proposes a method for computing virtual material properties by back tracking on actual paths of hydraulic hoses. For this we first extract the centerline of a hose from actual path using a 3D scanner. Then the virtual material property is estimated through optimization to minimize the distances between centerlines of the actual path and of a set of simulated paths computed with analytical software. We provide the discussion to prove the effectiveness of the back tracking method by comparing the computed paths and actual paths generated with many different types of SAE standard hoses.

필자는 이 연구에서 19세기말의 우리말 표기법을 연구하고자 하였다. 음운론적 연에서는 18세기말에 없어졌다는 '·'가 무질서하게 혼기되어 'ㅏ, ㅓ, ㅗ, ㅡ' 등과 변별적 자질을 상실했음을 알 수 있고, 텬(天), 디(地), 됴(朝), 됴(好) 등에서처럼 구개음화 현상이 지켜지지 않고 혼용되었고, 치조음하의 상승이중모음화가 혼용되어 '셰(世)→세, 셔→서, 쥬→주, 쳐→처' 등으로 혼기되었으며, 원순자음하에서 '노푼, 슬품' 등과 같이 장순모음 'ㅡ'가 원순모음 'ㅜ'로 쓰였으며, 중세국어에서와 같이 연철현상으로 '조흘, 노픈' 등의 표기가 보인다. 그리고 '조커, 됴타'와 같이 자음혼합동화현상이 그대로 쓰였다. 그리고, 합용병서에 있어서는 경음소로 'ㅺ, ㅼ, ㅽ' 등 'ㅅ'계 병서만이 쓰였다. 어휘(단어)에 있어서는 한자로 된 체언이 169여 개, 순우리말로 된 체언이 146여 개, 조사 63여 개 등이 쓰여 비교적 쉽고 쓰기 편한 우리말을 많이 사용하였다.
