A biopharmaceutics drug classification system for correlation between in vitro dissolution and in vivo bioavailability is proposed based on recognizing that drug dissolution and gastrointestinal permeability are the fundamental parameters controlling the rate and extent of drug absorption. The objective of this study was to assess whether in vitro dissolution profiles of immediate-release beta-blocker tablets can be correlated with intestinal membrane permeability and/or in vivo bioavailability. In vitro dissolution of the beta-blocker tablets was examined using KP VII Apparatus II methods at various pH. Intestinal membrane permeability was determined in vitro using the diffusion chamber method. Bioavailablity parameters were cited from literatures. The dissolution profiles did not accurately represent the in vivo bioavailablity. However, there were good correlations between intestinal membrane permeability and log P (n-octano/buffer). The correlations obtained in this study indicated that in vitro diffusion chamber method could be used to predict intestinal absorption in vivo.

목적: 다양한 각막질환에서 미니공막콘택트렌즈(Mini Scleral Design [MSD]; Happy Vision Corp., Anyang, Korea)의 처방 및 임상결과를 보고하고자 한다. 대상과 방법: 미니공막콘택트렌즈를 처방하였던 38명 56안에 대해 의무기록을 바탕으로 적응증, 렌즈 착용 전후 최대교정시력, 착용감, 평균 착용 시간, 최종 처방 렌즈 디자인, 최종 처방 전 시험 렌즈 착용 횟수, 렌즈 재주문 횟수 및 합병증에 대해 후향적으로 분석하였다. 결과: 렌즈 적응증으로는 원추각막이 42안(75%)으로 가장 많았고, 그 외 스티븐스존슨 증후군 6안(11%), 각막이식술 후 불규칙난시3안(5%), 각막 반흔 3안(5%), 라식 수술 후 각막확장증 2안(4%) 순이었다. 평균 최대교정시력(logMAR)은 착용 전 1.01 ± 0.64에서 착용 후 0.13 ± 0.19로 개선되었다(p=0.0001). 착용감은 53안(94.6%)에서 편안하다고 하였고, 하루 평균 착용시간은 12.9 ± 2.5시간 이었다. 최종 처방 렌즈의 시상 높이는 4.67 ± 0.37 mm (3.7-5.4)였고, 최종 처방 전 시험렌즈 착용 횟수는 3.3 ± 1.5 (1-7)회였으며, 최종 처방 후 1.5 ± 0.48 (1-3)회의 재주문이 필요하였다. 1명의 원추 각막 환자는 개선되지 않는 렌즈 압박감으로 인해 3개월 후 렌즈 착용을 중단하였다. 결론: 다양한 각막이상을 보이는 환자들에서 미니공막콘택트렌즈 착용 시 시력 호전 및 우수한 착용감을 얻을 수 있었으며, 이는 향후 훌륭한 대안이 될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. <대한안과학회지 2016;57(11):1699-1705> Purpose: To evaluate the clinical results of fitting the miniscleral contact lens (MSD; Happy Vision Corp., Anyang, Korea) in patients with corneal abnormalities. Methods: Thirty-eight patients (56 eyes) fitted with MSD lenses were recruited for this study. Clinical indication, visual acuity, degree of comfort, mean wearing time, parameters of the finally prescribed lenses, number of fittings with trial lenses, success rate with the first prescribed lens, and adverse events were evaluated. Results: Forty-two (75%) of 56 eyes were enrolled in this study due to keratoconus. Other conditions included Stevens-Johnson syndrome (6 eyes, 11%), high postkeratoplasty astigmatism (3 eyes, 5%), corneal scarring (3 eyes, 5%), and ectasia after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK; 2 eyes, 4%). The mean log MAR visual acuity improved from 1.01 ± 0.64 to 0.13 ± 0.19 after wearing lenses (p = 0.0001). In 53 eyes (94.6%), patients reported the miniscleral contact lenses to be comfortable, and the mean daily wear time was 12.9 ± 2.5 hours. The mean sagittal depth of finally prescribed lenses was 4.67 ± 0.37 mm (3.7-5.4). An average of 3.3 ± 1.5 (1-7) trials were needed for the trial fitting, and the average number of re-prescriptions to achieve the optimal fitting was 1.5 ± 0.48 (1-3). One patient discontinued the lenses after 3 months due to discomfort. Conclusions: Miniscleral contact lenses are a good alternative for patients with corneal abnormalities and result in both successful visual outcome and comfort. 지난 9년 동안 (2000-2009) 우리나라 입항지로 수입된 중국산 묘목류에서13종의 가루깍지벌레과가 검출되었다. 이중 Phenacocus madeirensis Green의 중국분포를 처음으로 보고하고, 중국산 수입 묘목류에서 검출된 가루깍지벌레과의 종 동정에 필요한 목록 및 검색표를 함께 기재하였다. Thirteen species of mealybugs were intercepted in quarantine at Korean ports of entry on plant materials from China over the past 9 years (2000-2009). Of these, Phenacoccus madeirensis Green has been newly reported in China through this study. This list and key are provided to assist in identifying intercepted specimens of mealybugs from China.

4-tert-octylphenol (OP) is a surfactant additive widely used in the manufacture of a variety of detergents and plastic products. Also, OP is known to have estrogenic activity by interacting with development and functions of endocrine system. This study was carried out to obtain toxicokinetic parameters of OP in male<br/> Sprague-Dawley rats. Male rats were administered OP, by either single oral (gavage) applications of 50, 100 or 200 mg/kg body weight. or a single intravenous injections of 1, 5 or 10 mg/kg body weight. Blood samples taken at several time intervals after administration were obtained from the femoral artery. Analysis of blood samples for OP was performed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The detection limit of OP was 1.9 ng/ml at SIM (selected ion monitoring) mode of GC/MS. Calibration curve for analysis of the concentrations of OP in plasma was (OP/butylphenol peak area ratio) = 0.0294 × (plasma conc.) + 0.028 (r²= 0.9991). The OP plasma concentration was 3921 ng/ml immediately after single intravenous application, decreased rapidly within 45 min, and was detectable at low concentration up to 6 hr after application. When administered orally in rats (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg), OP was detected in the blood early after gavage administration, indicating the rapid initial uptake from gastrointestinal tract, with Tmax obtained from 0.67~0.83 hr. Using the AUC (area under the curve) of plasma concentration vs. time, low oral bioavailabilities of 1.2, 5.0 and 5.3% were calculated for the 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg groups, respectively.

The population ageing phenomenon due to the extension of average lifespan contribute to the increase of elderly population and also the handicapped population is increasing owing to industrial disaster and accidents, which has resulted in the change of perception: that is, the old and the handicapped should not be regarded as special groups but anybody is subject to being handicapped and suffering difficulties. This change has led to the prevalent concept that the design should not be for any specific group but for all with various ages and body conditions so that it can be universal. The universal design should be applied preferably to the public facilities for many and unspecified people in that it is based on the equality for purpose. So far the public facilities in Korea have been built with the consideration of only the functional and productive aspects, leading to no concern for users. Until recently, various improvement projects have not been carried out with a great deal of interest. If any, they have been limited to Seoul and other metropolises. It needs to be expanded to other parts. In particular, the bus stops being an important factor to urban environment should be designed as being focused on users with the consideration of their demands and physical conditions. This study, for application of universal design to public facilities, will assess how much the universal design is applied to bus stops worldwide and construct the environment of universal design in Korea.
