This paper explains a method to render heterogeneous translucent materials based on measured data. Heterogeneous translucent materials such as marble, meat and jade have spatial texture and translucent effect by environment lighting. These appearances are caused by several substances having different optical property. Because of the complexity of the appearance, it is difficult to render the materials using a simple rendering model. In this paper, we represent the appearance of heterogeneous translucent objects by combining the exemplar obtained from the material sample and the measured subsurface scattering data. The exemplar is used as diffuse albedo and subsurface scattering data is used to compute the translucent effect of the surface. Subsurface scattering data at each point on the material sample are obtained by our measurement system through on LDR(low dynamic range) image. This measurement uses the fact that heterogeneous materials have a relatively narrow intensity range. We speed up the measurement by measuring subsurface scattering data at multiple points at the same time.

The appearance of human skin is not constant over time. It is changed by several physical factors such as exercising, tanning, and washing. In this paper, we propose a method that can model the appearance of the human face and skin varied over time using the measured data. The proposed method uses a surface reflection model to describe the specular of skin that is dependent on oil or sweat. It adopts diffusion models to represent the translucent of skin affected by melanin and hemoglobin. To model the variation of the appearance over time, we measure the surface reflection and subsurface scattering of skin with an even time interval using an imaged-based measurement device. Based on the measured data, we develop time-varying functions that describe the variation of appearance and improve existing human models by applying the timevarying functions. We validate our method using rendering results for several conditions and simulate the appearance of skin under different conditions by controlling model parameters.

Intelligent devices using ICT technology have been introduced in the field of construction machinery to improve productivity and stability. Among the intelligent devices, Machine Guidance is a device that provides real-time posture, location, and work range to drivers by installing various sensors, controllers, and satellite navigation systems on construction machines. Conversely, the efficiency of equipment that requires location information, such as machine guidance, will be greatly reduced in buildings, and tunnels in the GPS blind spots. Thus, the other high-precision positioning technologies are required in the GPS blind spot zone. In this study, we will develop a relative position measurement system that provides precise location information such as construction machinery and robots in a local area where the GPS reception is difficult. A relative position measurement system tracks a marker in the form of a sphere installed on a vehicle by using the image base tracking technology, and measures the distance and direction information to the marker to calculate a position.

Overloaded vehicles increase the maintenance cost of road structures, and they are a major factor in causing damage to the roads and bridges. In addition, overloaded vehicles compromise the braking capability of the vehicle; thus, threatening the safety of the driver. In order to prevent overloading of vehicles, the government is cracking down on the roads by using a device that measures the weight of vehicles. But this process is inconvenient because the place where the equipment is installed is far away from where the cargo is loaded. Due to the limitations of these fixed weighing devices, there is a growing need for technology that can monitor vehicle weight distribution and overload conditions in real time. In this work, we develop an onboard scale that can measure the load (weight) of trucks in real time. The onboard scale consists of high sensors, a signal processing unit, and a display, and it measures the load using height-displacement of the vehicle"s leaf spring suspension.

With the need for efficient maintenance technology to reduce maintenance costs for steel bridges, repainting robots are being developed to automate the work in narrow and poor bridge spaces. The repainting robot is equipped with a blasting module to remove paint layers and contaminants. This study developed a prototype monitoring module to be mounted on the repainting robot. The monitoring module analyzes the condition of the painting surface through a camera installed in the front, guides the direction of movement of the robot, and provides the operator with a video to check the working status after blasting through a camera installed in the back. Various image visibility enhancement technologies were applied to the monitoring module to overcome worksite challenges where incomplete lighting and dust occurs.

Solid texture synthesis is a graphics technique that represents characteristic texture patterns of a given image throughout the volume of an object. The color of each voxel consisting of the volume is calculated by feature matching between the voxel and pixel in image in three directions. Due to this way of the feature matching, solid texture synthesis tends to provide blurred results. Furthermore, in case of the image having texture pattern whose boundary is not clear or is difficult to extend 3D shape, solid texture synthesis sometimes gives unexpected results. Although we can use a binary feature map with a given image to increase the quality of the result, this map is proper to use with images containing texture pattern distributing regularly or structural one. In this paper, we are interest in synthesizing images that has irregular pattern and their boundary is not clear. We propose to use a user-defined feature map with the image. This feature map is an additional image that user assigns the texture pattern with other color intentionally, which ascertains the boundaries of pattern and background and highlights the pattern. This map is RGB image like a given image. On the other hand, this feature map provides better results to the image that has regular but different color and shape pattern.

솔리드 텍스처 합성에서 최종 결과의 품질과 마찬가지로 텍스처 합성에 필요한 계산을 단축하는 것은 중요하다. 최근 연구에서는 데이터 차원 감소나 k-coherence search 같은 매칭 가속화 방법을 사용해서 솔리드 텍스처 합성 시간을 단축하였다. 본 논문에서는 빠르게 2D 이미지로부터 솔리드 텍스처 합성을 할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 제시한다. 제안하는 방법의 기본 아이디어는 주어진 이미지를 다수 영역으로 분할하여 형상 매칭(feature matching) 과정에서 사용되는 후보 수를 줄이는 것으로, 사물을 이루는 복셀과 관련한 픽셀이 포함된 분할 영역내의 후보들과 비교함으로써, 보다 빠르게 최적의 결과값을 제공한다. 실험적으로 본 방법은 k-coherence search 알고리즘에서 k 값을 1 로 사용했을 때보다 빠르거나 비슷한 시간을 갖는다.
