A Framework of Feature-based Modeling for Concurrent Product Shape Design

In this paper a framework for feature-based modeling is newly proposed in order to support concurrent engineering design involving functional design, machining, assembly, maintenance, and so on. The framework defines a mechanism interpreting shape descriptions in different application viewpoints into a unified representation. With the mechanism designers and engineers can cooperatively deal with product shapes in the environment of concurrent engineering. Based on the framework, a feature-based modeling system has been developed and an example of implementation is briefly introduced.

In area milling such as pocket machining with islands, optimal tool path planning is very difficult problem. In this paper, new algorithm is presented, which determine it. Our algorithm is consisting of three modules; (1)generating the offset curves, (2)constructing and removing the offset loop and between loops, (3)finding the shortest path for minimal tool movement, and the uncut areas. For optimal tool path planning, we make use of the concepts of loop entity, which is chain of offset curves of contour curves. It is an entity that treat systematically both the intersection of offset curves and detection of an unuseful offset curves. And our algorithm is also applied to path planning for uncut area without the modification of our algorithm. Emprical tests show that the proposed algorithm fulfils its requirements.

Today's design and manufacturing environment is rapidly changed. The society has become more and more complicated, people have variety value, products are produced in wide variety and its life cycle tends strongly getting shorter. Industrial companies need to respond rapidly and flexibly in an uncertain environment and respond to a demanding alterations. In this environment, many companies innovate a new research technique about product development management in using concurrent engineering, recently. But, in a field of design, computer supported system has begun to toddle to analyze and design to operation concerning design in a macroscopic point of view. In this paper, a study suggests the method that collaborative works perform in the development of product. Peoples cooperate through organization and fulfill organizational product realization. So, this paper suggests method and framework that can systemically model information structure, with represents and manages organizational product development efficiently and reasonably. A study discusses a concept and a framework to be based on modeling, analysis and design of organizational product development. Also, a study suggests its modeling method of organizational product development to be based on a definition of concept and framework. To verify the model from a suggested method, a study apply a 'Configuration Controlled Design' proposed by ISO. To apply, extends the information model be efficiently able to manage information of configuration controlled design. It describes through graphical description method to be suggested modeling method in this paper.
