조기영어교육이 초등영어교육에 미치는 효과-3학년을 중심으로-

The main purpose of the study was to investigate some of the lasting effects of early English education on third-grade primary Emglish education through a questionnarire-based survey conducted with the same students at the beginning and the end of the spring semester of 2002. The results have shown that early English education has become increasingly prevalent throughout the nation and it has had mostly positive effects on primary English education. Students with early English education have shown more positive responses to primary English education than those with no or little early English education. the more and earlier children received English education, the more confidence, understanding of the lesson, positive attitude, and high expectations they have shown in and toward elementary school English. There was also a close relationshop between a high degree of interest in early English education and that in promary English education. The results of the survey also indicated some effects of parents' educational background and involvement on children's learning of English. Finally, the study suggested ways to sustain continuity between early and primary English education and to satisfy third graders wuth prior English learning experience within the curriculum.

최근 교육 분야에서의 컨설팅의 필요성에 대해서는 교육 관련 종사자들 대부분이 의견을 같이 하고 있으며, 학교 행정 및 운영에 관한 컨설팅뿐만 아니라 각과 교육에서 수업 컨설팅의 가치와 효용성에 대해서도 널리 인식하고 실행하려는 노력을 하고 있다. 그러나 수업 컨설팅 연구가 아직 시작 단계이므로, 모형 개발 및 효과적인 적용 방법에 대한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 학교 컨설팅 가운데서 가장 핵심이 된다고 할 수 있는 수업 컨설팅에 초점을 맞추어 수행하며, 교사들이 지도에 가장 어려움을 겪는 교과목 중의 하나인 영어 교과의 수업 컨설팅 모형을 개발하고자 한다. 또한 개발된 모형의 적용 절차 및 활용 전략에 대해 제시하고, 한 개의 적용 사례를 통하여 모형의 타당성을 검증하고자 한다. Recently the concept of consulting was proposed as an alternative to the existing instructional supervision which was found to have many drawbacks in its administrative process. Instructional consulting is contrasted with supervision in that teachers request experts' help voluntarily to develop their professionalism. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model of instructional consulting and to apply it to elementary school English teaching. This paper reports on a case of consulting which contributed to a significant improvement in the client's English teaching skill. To develop instructional consulting more, many problems need to be solved: (1) the development of consultant training programs, (2) the establishment of a network of consultants, (3) creating a database of consulting cases, and (4) providing consultants with incentives.
Suggestions for a Better Development of Primary School English Curriculum and Materials

This paper outlines some concerns that must be addressed in writing primary school English curriculum and materials in the Korean context and makes suggestions to better the quality of materials made for the next time around. Literature review of current primary school English materials has shown that setting realistic and appropriate program goals based on needs analysis, early introduction of written skills, adoption of graded reading and writing materials, and more informative teacher's guides are needed. Suggestions are made in terms of the organization of the curriculum, language materials, continuity, diversity of needs, class time modules, and teachers’ roles, as well as trainer and teacher training. These issues need to be tackled at the personal, local, and national levels in order to bring out a better outcome in primary school English education and to maintain continuity into the secondary school.
