Gingko biloba is one of the oldest trees on earth. It can be traced 300 million years or more into past. In recent years, this tree has become increasingly popular because of its longevity. Amount of comsumption of Gingko leaves in Korea is increased to produce drugs for blood circulating system's disorder. The workers who work at the company of product drug with Gingko leaves complain pruritus at belt position of west, however toxic substance from extracts of Gingko biloba was carried out to determine what kind of the toxic substance from extract could induce a contact dermatitis by means of histopathological study. Dried leaves of Korean G. biloba were exhaustively extracted with chloroform. The aqueous chloroform residue was extracted with hexane. After evaporation, the hexane extract was passed through a silica gel column chromatography, it was separated into 9 fractions by means of gradient solvent(benzene: acetone/ 98~93:2~7%). The 4th and 7th fraction were idendified as bilibol and gingkolic acid by silica gel thin layer chromatography and NMR spectrophotometer. The 4th and 7th fractions of Korean Gingko leaves have an irritant substances which can be induced ear swelling and increased thickness of stratum cornium of rabbit ear exposed with the fractions (3 time/3 day, 100μl of 50mg/ml ethyl alcohol). In the 4th fraction, the substance have induced the surface of ear to swell and mass of unknown cell like inflammatory cell were infiltrated within the stratum corneum, and the 7th fraction have the surface of ear to loss the hairs, and sebaceous gland and follicle of hair were infiltrated with inflammatory cells, and other fractions at all did not induced a certain contact dermatitis and also Deutschen drug of Gingko (named as Gerigeron) have induced the contact dermatitis such as dematitis of Korean Gingko extract.

In order to investlagte effects of Cyperus rotundus on the ovarian growth of rabbits, C. rotundus which grows in Korea was boiled in water. the extracts of C. rotundus was administrated orally from the 30 days old to the 90 days old rabbits. At the 60 days old and 90 days old, five number of rabbits were slaughted respectively. After laparatoming, the ovaries were immediately fixed in 10% formalin solution, embedded in paraffin, serially sectioned at 6u, and stained with H & E. The results are as follow: 1. At the 60 days old, the weight and length of ovary of rabbits administrated extracts of C. rotundus were 7.63±0.73mg and 7.02±0.45mm respectively. But in the control group, 7.85±0.65mg and 7.11±0.57mm. 2. At the 90 days old, the weight and length of ovary in the experimental group were 36.04±1.58mg and 9.68±l.04mm respectively but in the control group, 31.62±2.12mg and 9.12±l.12mm. The weight and length of ovary in the experimental group were significantly increased compared with those in the control group (P < 0.05). 3. At the 90 days old, several graffian follicles and corpus luteum in the ovary of 3 among 5 rabbits were observed. Typical follicular atresia and "Call Exner Body" were observed predominatly in the experimental group and also observed twin oocyte in the secondary follicle. Above results, C. rotundus in Korea is considered as harmful to herbivorous animals, if eat voraciously.

Brucella abortus 감염 흰쥐에서의 rifaampin과 streptomycin의 치료효과

This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of rifampin with or without streptomycin in male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats experimentally inoculated with Brucella abortus. Thirty rats were intraperitoneally inoculated with $1.0{\times}10^9$colony-forming units of B. abortus. They were divided into 3 groups by treatment with antibiotic. 10 rats in Group A were orally administrated with rifampin, 10 rats in Group B with rifampin orally and with streptomycin intramuscularly over 12 weeks starting at 1 week post infection (PI). A placebo recipient in Group C was inoculated with sterile saline without antibiotics. All animals were monitored by tube agglutination test (TAT) and AMOS-PCR to evaluate the efficiency of the antibiotics to B. abortus infection. The antibody titers in Groups A, B and C were 1:400, 1:400 and 1:800 as measured by TAT at the first week PI, respectively. The antibody titer in Group A decreased to 1:100 by the 13th week PI. That in the control group was observed as high antibody titer until 13th weeks PI, but the antibody response in Group B was low(1:50) from the 5th week to the 13th week PI. AMOS-PCR there was evidence of relapse of B. abortus in group A in liver and spleen specimens at the 13th week PI. B. abortus DNA was detected in Group C in liver and spleen specimens from the 1st week to 13th week PI by AMOS-PCR. However AMOS-PCR could not detect any organism in Group B from the 3rd week PI until the end of the study. This study demonstrated that administration of a combination of rifampin and streptomycin was more efficacious than administration of rifampin alone. A significant reduction in antibody titer was observed when a combination of 15 mg/kg/day of rifampin per os and 15 mg/kg/day streptomycin intramuscularly was used in comparison with the antibody of control group.
