The purpose of this study is to review the historical development of British Museum Library and its cataloging rules which really marked the beginning of the modern era of cataloguing. The results of the study can be summarized as follows (1) Sir Anthony Panizzi was the most creative force in the history of the British Museum Library. He devoted himself to the formation of the British Museum Library cataloging policy and the compilation of printed catalogues. Moreover, he laid down the sound acquisitions policy and the vigorous a n.0, pplication of the copyright deposit privilege. He designed a great circular reading room and raised standards of library service and administration. (2) British Museum Library Cataloging Rules : 1. are notable for their pioneering efforts-this was the first major catalogue code-and for their influence on all subsequent codes. 2. introduced the concept of corporate authorship but has never dealt with problem very satisfactory. 3. went to great lengths to avoid title entry. 4. used a number of form heading, example for, ACADEMIES, PERIODICAL PUBLICATION, EPHEMERIDES, CATALOGUES etc.

인터넷포털과 인터넷서점의 어린이자료 분류시스템의 비교분석

이 연구는 어린이자료의 분류시스템 구축을 위한 한 방안으로 어린이들이 즐겨 찾는 국내 인터넷 포털과 어린이전문 인터넷 사이트의 디렉토리 구분 및 계층성과 인터넷서점의 어린이도서에 대한 항목구분과 계층성을 비교분석하였다. 이를 토대로 인터넷 포털에서 체계적이고 효율적인 어린이자료의 분류체계를 구성하기 위한 몇 가지 지침을 제시한 바, 그 내용은 다음과 같다. (1) 어린이네티즌들의 정보요구와 이용행태를 반영해야 한다. (2) 어린이들의 관점과 표현에 따른 용어를 선정하고 연령별 기준을 제시할 필요가 있다. (3) 이용자의 접근성과 편의성을 위해 명확한 계층성과 군집성을 유지해야 한다. (4) 주제나 개념중심의 카테고리에 어린이들의 활동과 대상을 보완하는 절충방식의 카테고리를 설정하는 것이 바람직할 것이다. (5) 교과목중심의 카테고리에 상상력과 호기심을 지속적으로 충족시켜 줄 수 있는 카테고리를 설정하고 상세한 주제별 세분을 추가할 필요가 있다. This study tries to compare the classification systems of major internet portals and their sub-portals specialized for the children and of major online book stores. It compares and analyzes the major directories of them and suggests recommendations not only to improve their own systems but also to apply to the development for the classification systems for children's library. Some of them are: (1) The system should reflect information requests and use behaviors of the children netizen. (2) It should select the terms reflecting the children's viewpoints and expressions and suggest the guidelines by ages. (3) It should maintain the clear hierarchies and grouping for the accessability and convenience of the users. (4) It will be helpful to establish the categories to mix the subject- or concept-based categories and the activities and objects of the children. (5) It will also be helpful to establish the categories based on the curricula added by those creating the imagination and interest and to subdivide by subject.

KDC 제4판과 DDC 제21판의 특수사회학 관련 주제에 관한 비교분석

This study compares and analyzes the classes in the major special areas in the sociology, called "branch sociology" included in the Korean Decimal Classification 4th edition and Dewey Decimal Classification 21st edition. Especially it analyzes the related classes of specified areas(branch sociology) of sociology including those of arts and sports, sciences, languages, society, region, etc. class by class. In this analysis two systems show many differences in the classes included and in the locations of same classes. This analysis can be useful for the future revision of KDC. 이 연구는 특정 주제 분야를 사회학적 관련 이론 및 기법을 적용하여 고찰하고 있는 문헌의 분류를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 국내에서 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 한국십진분류법(KDC)과 듀이십진분류법(DDC)의 특수사회학 분류항목들을 비교 분석하였다. 특히 특수사회학 관련 분류항목들을 종교, 예체능, 과학, 언어, 사회, 지역 등 6개 분야로 구분하여 분속한 결과 분류항목 설정이 상이함으로 인한 문제점과 분류항목이 설정되지 않음으로 인한 문제점이 나타났다. 이를 토대로 이 연구에서는 특정 주제의 이론 및 기법 적용에 일관성을 기하도록 하고 분류번호 부여를 위한 추가의 항목 전개 등 분류 실무자의 판단을 도와주는 한편 나아가 KDC의 제5판 개정에 일조하는데 그 의의를 두었다.

DDC21의 우선순위표에 관한 연구

This study analyzes the concepts and background of introducing preference order in general classification schemes and investigates and analyzes the major tables of preference of DDC 21 specifically in the Tables and in the Schedules. It also suggests specific examples for application in almost all cases of the tables of preference. 이 연구는 분류기호를 통해 복합주제를 합성할 수 없는 경우의 합리적이고 일관성 있는 분류기호를 부여하기 위해 문헌분류표에 설정되어 있는 우선순위(preference order)의 개념과 활용 등 그 이론적 배경을 고찰하고, DDC를 중심으로 문헌분류표에서의 우선순위표 활용을 보조표와 본표의 각 유별로 구분하여 추출한 후, 이를 실제적으로 적용하면서 우선순위표를 분석하였다.

한국십진분류법의 우선순위표 설정에 관한 연구

This study suggests a plan of tables of deference for Korean Decimal Classification, 4th edition, based on the study on those in Dewey Decimal Classification, 21st edition. It suggests two tables for the Auxiliary Tables, one for standard subdivisions and one for subdivisions for literature. Twenty-two tables are suggested for the Schedule of ten main classes. 이 연구는 복합주제를 합성할 수 없는 문헌에 합리적이고 일관성 있는 분류기호를 부여하기 위해 분류표에 설정되는 우선순위(reference order)를 한국십진분류법에 도입하기 위한 방안을 고찰하였다. 실제 분류항목 대상으로는 조기 표에서 \circled1 표준구분, \circled2 문학형식구분 두 곳, 본표에서는 총류의 014-019 서목, 목록, 철학류의 \circled1 180 심리학, \circled2 182 차이심리학과 183 발달심리학, 종교류의 230 기독교, 사회 과학류의 \circled1 320 경제학, \circled2 325.9 회계학, \circled3 326.1 상업, \circled4 326.2 무역, \circled5 364.4 범죄학, \circled6 336 노동 문제, \circled7 338 사회복지, \circled8 339 사회단체, \circled9 370 교육학, \circled10 379 특수교육, 순수과학류의 \circled1 475 미생물학, \circled2 481 일반식물학, \circled2 491 일반동물학, 기술과학류의 \circled1 512.8 간호학, \circled2 539.7 도시계획, \circled3 594.5 요리와 594.6 건강을 위한 계층별 요리, \circled4 598.1 육아 일반, 예술류의 650 회화 등 22개를 포함해 모두 24개의 우선순위표(안)을 작성하였다.

敎育學部門의 索引言語 階層性 比較分析 : 한국십진분류표와 KEDI교육 THESAURUS를 중심으로 Centering on the KDC and KEDI EDUCATIONAL THESAURUS

The purpose of this is to understand the hierarchy of concepts between KDC and KEDI EDUCATIONAL THESAURUS which are used terms in education. The results of the study can be summarized as follows : 1) The number of the terms of agreeing to the relation of hierarchy is few in the index language of KDC and KEDI EDUCATIONAL THESAURUS. A large number of the terms of agreeing to the relation of hierarchy don't help greatly to the indexing and document retrieval. 2) Terms of disagreeing to the relation of hierarchy are made to express the difference in quality of concepts and extents of cognition or characteristics of classification and thesaurus, for example professional education, curriculum etc. 3) Among the ambiguous terms to the relation of hierarchy, the number of terms equaling to the position of hierarchy is a few and the number of terms unequaling to the position of hierarchy is many. Therfore, it shows that guidance to the more special item is insufficient in the specific subject. Finally, as the descriptors of KEDI EDUCATIONAL THESAURUS show the irrationality in the concepts and adequacy in the relation of hierarchy with the cultural and cognitional difference and difficulty of vocabulary selection in translation, it would be desirable that descriptors should be regulated to the rationality and adequacy.

DDC 제23판의 특성과 KDC 제5판 개정을 위한 함의

이 논문에서는 DDC의 최신판인 제23판의 주요 특징과 개정내용을 보조표와 본표로 구분하여 상세하게 분석하였다. 또한 DDC의 개정과정과 운영 및 관리에서 나타나는 여러 특징들로부터 얻을 수 있는 KDC의 개정작업을 위한 함의와 시사점을 제시하였다. This article analyzes the general characteristics and major revisions of the newly published DDC 23, including those of Tables and Schedules. Based on these and general background found in the process of revision and maintenance of DDC, it suggests some implications and ideas for the revision of KDC.

KDC 제4판 언어 및 문학류 전개의 개선방안

This study suggests some ideas for the improvements of the classes of Language(700) and Literature(800) of the 4th Edition of Korean Decimal Classification(KDC). They includes some recommendations for the followings: introducing some new entries of the time table for the Korean Literature and English and American Literatures; relocating some entries for the improvements including language policy and administration; using new terminologies; adding new and revised notes for the appropriate entries; changing some specific classifying methods including the classification of bilingual dictionaries; introducing some options including those for the subdivisions of modern novels and those for American Literature; and discontinuing some entries not used, especially those in Other Languages. 이 연구에서는 KDC 제4판 언어류와 문학류의 분류항목들을 개선하기 위해, 언어류와 문학류의 본표 항목과 조기표 항목을 분석하여 개선을 위한 구체적인 방안을 제시하였다. 그 개선방안은 한국문학과 영미문학의 시대구분을 위한 새로운 분류항목의 설정, 불합리하게 설정된 언어정책 및 언어행정의 해당언어의 역사 아래로의 이치, 각국 언어 및 문학의 부적합한 명칭표기의 조정, 표준구분의 적용과 의미파악에 어려움이 있는 주기에 대한 추가주기의 설정 및 보완, 2개국어사전의 분류규정의 변경, 한국 현대소설의 주제세분을 비롯해 영국문학과 미국문학의 구분을 위한 선택조항의 적용, 그리고 기타 아시아 제어 아래의 드라비다어와 기타 제어 아래의 켈트어, 셈어족, 함어족 하위 분류항목 등 세분전개가 불필요한 항목의 주기화 등으로 요약할 수 있다.
