배영자(Young-Ja Bae) 한국국제정치학회 2005 국제정치논총 Vol.45 No.1
This article analyzes regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia with a viewpoint of transnational semiconductor production network. First of all, it is shown that the different forms of transnational production networks have been developed in two sub-sectors of semiconductor industry, that is, memory chip and non-memory chip. The transnational production network in memory chip sector is composed of a few competing big firms with vertical division of labor within a firm, while that in non-memory chip sector could be characterized as a complex of both vertical and horizontal division of labor among thousands of firms with different sizes and specialties across the nations in the region. The paper argues that the latter has started to dominate the semiconductor industry since the mid 1990s and this has positive implication for forming common interests among the firms in the region and, thus, intensifying regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia.
디지털미디어와 정치사회변동: 이집트, 아제르바이잔, 북한 사례 연구
배영자(Bae, YoungJa) 평화나눔연구소 2021 인간과 평화 Vol.2 No.2
The digital media may serve to promote the development of democracy, but sometimes it becomes the effective mean of control and surveillance. This paper argues that the digital media should not be seen as separated from the context in which the media work and, thus, the role of the media in the process of political and social changes must be analyzed with the social and economic contexts, such as the socio-economic structure, the political institutions, the competition between power elite groups, civil society, and social movements. Based upon this viewpoint on the digital media, this research examines the cases of Egypt, Azerbaijan and North Korea to show the different roles of digital media in the anti-government and democratic movements and see how the roles of digital media are differently constructed interacting with the contexts. The paper expects that the digital media could play some role in political and social change in North Korea from a long term perspective.
한국, 중국, 일본 3국의 양자 간 투자협정(BIT) 체결 양상 비교 연구
배영자 ( Young Ja Bae ) 서울대학교 한국정치연구소 2015 한국정치연구 Vol.24 No.1
This article is a comparative study to analyze the motives and aspects of the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) in Korea, China, and Japan. After a short introduction of theoretical discussions regarding BIT, this study shows that China and Korea have concluded the BITs with quite a few countries around the world, including the developed and developing countries in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, while Japan has concluded the BITs only with a small number of Asian countries. Korea has seemed to sign the BITs, mainly due to the competitive economic pressure to capture a share of foreign direct investment, while Japan has had a clear motive to protect Japanese foreign direct investment in Asia. China has shown multiple motivations for protecting Chinese overseas firms and considering economic competitiveness of China.

배영자 ( Young Ja Bae ) 대한정치학회 2011 대한정치학회보 Vol.19 No.2

Through the analysis of the AVS case, the paper shows that the AVS actor-network is composed of diverse human and non-human actors and passes through the translation process, that is, the stages of problematization, interessement, enrollment, and mobilization.
