        This study was carried out to analyze growth patterns of tobacco cultivars Hicks and Burley 21 at different cultural practices. 1. Hicks variety was larger than Burley 21 in upper maximum of dry weight per plant. 2. Dry weight per plant increased in the order of general mulching, improved mulching and non-mulching in both cultivars. 3. Absolute growth rate of Burley 21 was larger than that of Hicks. 4. A.G.R. was little different among cultivation type in Hicks but increased in the order of general mulching, improved mulching and non-mulching in Burley 21. 5. Increment curve was symetric. 6. The correlation coefficient between yield and dry weight per plant was 0.99 and negative correlation between quality and dry weight per plant was found.

      • 담배육묘를 위한 저면관수 연구 I. 저면관수가 묘의 생장 및 묘상 온도에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to determine the effects of the bottom watering method on seedling growth, temperature of seedbed and working hours. The results of compared conventional watering with bottom watering were as follows: 1. The lowest and highest temperature on surface of bottom watering seedbed were higher about 2-3$^{\circ}C$ and 3-5$^{\circ}C$ than those of conventional plot, respectively. 2. At 30 days after seeding, flesh and dry weight of seedling in bottom watering seedbed were heavier about 121% and 62% than those of seedling in conventional plot, respectively, while dry ratio of that was lower about 30.2%. 3. Plant height of transplanting seedling in bottom watering seedbed was higher about 4-5cm than that of seedling in conventional plot. Otherwise, ratio of top to root and length of root were not significant. 4. Working hours of bottom watering for growing seedling were reduced 40.9% and 53.4% in primary and secondary seedbeds as compared with those of conventional plot, respectively.

      • 황색종 담배의 재배방법이 엽중 화학성분에 미치는 영향

        These studies were conducted to investigate the changes of starch, sugar and nicotine content in relation to maturity and cultural conditions and correlation between growth characteristics and chemical components in order to improve the leaf quality. The results were summarized as follows; 1. Nicotine content, total nitrogen content and the ratio of total nitrogen to nicotine of the green leaf were increased with heavier fertilizer, wider planting space and lower topping, whereas starch, total sugar and the ratio of sugar to nicotine were decreased. 2. Starch content, sugar content and the ratio of total sugar to nicotine(T-S/Nic) in the cured leaf were decreased with milder planting space, less application of MH and delaying harvesting date. 3. It was estimated that 58.1% of starch of the harvested leaf was converted into sugar of the cured leaf, and also they were significantly correlated each other.

        향끽미종 잎담배 ST375-4의 신재배법 연구 제1보 피복방법이 수량 및 품종에 미치는 영향

        향끽미품종인 ST375-4를 공시하여 수확기를 앞당기고 노력을 절멸하며 수량과 품질을 향상시키는 재배법을 구명코자 한 구덩이에 5주를 이주하여 개량 Mulching하는 1혈다주 개량Mulching, 한 구덩이에 1주를 이주하는 일반 Mulching 및 무피복재배로 실시한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 1혈다주 개량 Mulching 재배는 무피복재배구 보다 수확기가 14일 앞당겨졌다. 2. 1혈다주 개량Mulching재배는 이식노동력이 무피복재배보다 44.9% 절감되었다. 3. 1혈다주 개량 Mulching 재배시 엽면상체조도는 무피복재배와 차가 없었다. 4. 1혈다주 개량 Mulching 재배는 무피복재배에 비해 수량 28.7%, kg 당가격가 15.0%가 향상되었다. This study was carried out in 1979 to establish the proper mulching culture method for an aromatic tobacco, ST 375-4. Three different methods of mulching were employed: Improved mulching (I. M.), General mulching (G. M.) and Non-mulching (N. M.). The number of seedlings per hole was 5 for I. M., and one for G. M. and N. M. In comparison with N. M., I. M. had shortened final date of leaf harvest by 14 days, enabling curing leaves before the rainy season. It also reduced transplanting labour hours by 44.9%. Yield and price value increased with improved mulching culture. There was little difference in relative light intensity at leaves between N. M. and I. M.

      • Changes of Chemical Constituents at Various Stages of Maturity for Flue-cured Tobacco

        황색종 잎담배의 성숙과 노쇠 (이식후 50일부터 106일까지 )에 따른 생엽중 전분, 전당, 니코틴 및 전질소의 함량 변화와 이들 성분간의 관계를 조사한바, 전분함량은 두 품종 모두 각 엽위에서 성숙함에 따라 증가하였으나 노쇠함에 따라 감소하였다. 전질소 함량은 성숙함에 따라 감소하였으나 니코틴 함량 은 점점 증가하였다. 전당 함량은 성숙함에 따라 감소하는 경향이었다. 전분 함량은 전질소 함량과는 부의 상관을 보였으나 니코틴 함량과는 정의 상관이 인정되었다. 전질소 함량과 니코틴 함량은 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 그러므로 수확기를 관행보다 5-7일 늦추는 것은 건엽에서 환원당과 니코틴의 비를 더 좋게 하는 방법일 것이다. This study was conducted to investigate the change of starch, total sugar, nicotine, and total nitrogen contents in green leaves at various stages of maturity(50-106 days after transplanting), and to relate between chemical constituents for flue-cured tobacco (Cv NC82 and BY 4). For the two cultivars and all stalk positions, starch contents increased with maturation, but decreased with senescence. Nicotine contents increased, while total nitrogen contents decreased with delay of harvest. Total sugar contents had a tendency of decrease. For the two cultivars , starch correlated negatively with total nitrogen, and positively with nicotine. Total nitrogen correlated negatively with nicotine. A delay of 5 to 7 days than conventional harvesting time would reach to the better ratio of the reducing sugar to nicotine ratio.

      • 황색종 담배에서 생육형질, 품질 및 화학성분과의 관계

        This study was conducted to relate among growth characteristics, quality, and chemical components for flue-cored tobacco. The results are summarized as follows : 1. Starch content in harvested green leaf was correlated negatively with leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, and leaf weight of harvested green leaf, respectively, while positively with total sugar content in cured leaf, and the ratio of leaf length to leaf width of harvested green leaf. 2. Organic matter and total nitrogen contents in the soil were correlated positively with nicotine content in cured leaf, respectively, and total nitrogen in the soil negatively with total sugar content in cured leaf. 3, Amount of fertilizer, application date of MH, priod of harvesting, and yield were correlated positively with nicotine content in cured leaf, respectively , while negatively with total sugar content. Application amount of MH was correlated positively with total sugar content, but negatively with nicotine content in cured leaf. Also amount of compost was correlated negatively with nicotine content in cured leaf. 4. The ratio of total sugar to nicotine (TS/N) per plant was correlated positively with price (Won/kg) and specific leaf area, but negatively with leaf length. leaf width, leaf area, harvested leaves, and leaf weight in cured leaves, respectively. Yield was correlated negatively with TS/N per plant. 5. TS/N of the best quality tobacco per plant was 12.0. Those of the best quality tobacco in each stalk position were 42.1 for first~third leaf, 28.4 for 4th~6th leaf , 23.7 for 7th~9th leaf, 7.7 for l0th~12th leaf , and 7.8 for over 13th leaf from bottom, respectively. 6, When TS/N was 12.0, optimum values of growth characteristics per plant were 100.5 $\pm$ 10.3g for leaf dry weight, 755.1$\pm$53.2cm for leaf length, 294.4$\pm$25.1cm for leaf width, 8, 892$\pm$111cm2 for leaf area, 16.0$\pm$0.6 leaves for harvested leaves, and 7.32$\pm$0.44mg/cm2 for specific leaf area, respectively. 7. When TS/N was 12.0, optimum values of chemical components per plant were 1.92$\pm$0.28% for nicotine content, and 20.4$\pm$ 1.4 % for total sugar content, and that of yield was 238.3$\pm$ 9.8kg/10a.

        적심방법이 잎담배의 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향

        본 시험은 적심의 시기와 정도를 달리하여 조기적심 체제확립과 그에 따른 품종의 반응을 구명코자 실시하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 수확기의 전엽장 및 엽폭은 By 104, Nc 2326, Va 115순으로 컸고, 조기 천지할수록 길었으며, 주당엽면적 및 생엽중은 By 104, 조기 천지인 경우에 컸다. 2. 발뢰기 적심은 만기적심에 비하여 본 상엽의 엽장, 엽폭, 엽면적이 커서 증수되었다. 3. 엽면상대조도는 Va 115 품종에서 높았고 By 104는 낮았으며 만적일수록 수광상태가 좋았다. 4. 니코틴함량은 조기, 심지일수록 전질소는 조적일수록 전당함량은 Nc 2326, 만적일수록 높았다. 5. 수량은 By 104, 발뢰기 추엽1매 적심구에서 표준구(개화시, 추엽1매)에 비해 다소 높았으며, 대금은 3개 품종 공히 발뢰기 추엽1매 적심구가 높았다. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of topping time and degree on the characteristics of three tobacco varieties, and to establish the early topping (Button stage) method at Eumseong Experiment Station, Korea Tobacco Research Institute in 1979-1980. The results are summarized as follows; yield increased in the plots of By 104, topping at button stage and under first leaf from floral axis. Quality was good in the plot topped at button stage and under first leaf from floral axis. Price per l0a was highest in the plot topped at button stage and under first leaf from floral axis.
