Nowadays a lot of high-tech electronic products such as TVs, monitors and camcorders are being developed. The more functions the electronic devices have, the more heat problems occur. Therefore, most of electronic products have air-ventilation holes to eliminate heat that is generated inside the products. The shapes of ventilation holes are usually complicated since aesthetic appearance of the products is important these days. In order to create those complicated shapes, designers should do time-consuming jobs because most of commercial CAD systems do not provide the functions that create patterns of lofted parts along freeform surfaces. In this research, an automated air-ventilation hole modeling system was proposed. The system generates patterns of lofted objects on freeform surfaces. Standard process to create air-ventilation holes manually was established, and vent-hole types and pattern types were classified into several categories. Designers can create many kinds of vent-holes by combining vent-hole types and pattern types. Users can also utilize user-defined pattern which can give users more flexibility. Developed system was applied to several design examples and the results are presented.

특징 형상의 조합으로 표현될 수 없는 자유 형상을 가진 제품이 늘어남에 따라 자유형상을 효율적으로 변형시키는 기법이 필요하다. 여러 가지 자유형상 변형기법(FFD) 가운데에서 자유 형상을 파라메트릭하게 컨트롤하기 위해서는 조정 다각형 기반의 형상 변형 기법이 적합하다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 FFD 기법을 적용하여 자유형상 모델을 파라메트릭하게 컨트롤하기 위해 입력 모델에 대한 조정 다각형을 자동으로 생성하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 크게 기본 조정 다각형 생성과 조정 다각형 최적화 단계로 나누어진다. 기본 다각형 생성에서는 1)입력모델을 직교 3방향에 투영, 2)투영된 결과에 대해 2차원 조정 다각형을 생성, 3)2차원 조정 다각형을 조합하여 3차원 기본 조정 다각형 생성의 단계를 거친다. 조정 다각형 최적화 단계에서는 기본 조정 다각형에 에지 및 면 연산자를 적용하여 입력 모델에 더욱 근사하는 최종 조정 다각형을 생성한다. 예제에서는 제안된 알고리즘을 통해 자동으로 생성된 조정다각형을 자동차 모델에 적용하여 모델의 형상을 변화시킨 결과를 보였다.
Hole-Pin-Slot 조립의 공차해석 알고리즘 기초 연구

Mechanical assembly using pins, slots and holes is perhaps the most widely used method in many applications. As the value of dimensional engineering increases in most manufacturing industry, tolerance analysis has been drawing attention from design and production engineers. In order to gain an insight into such assembly processes, simulation algorithms have been developed in this study, with the effects of floating pins. This paper presents simulation results, obtained using the developed algorithms, for two simple problems: 2 pin-2 hole assembly and 2 pin-1 hole-1 slot assembly. By reviewing the simulation results, the feasibility and usefulness of the developed algorithms have been confirmed. Further future study to consider various, more complex cases will help develop our insight into the problem of mechanical hole-pin-slot assembly process.
공차해석을 위한 조립공정 시뮬레이션 알고리즘의 연구 및 사례

As the customers’ expectation level for product quality rises, careful tolerance design gains increasing importance. Successful tolerance design still requires iterative runs of tolerance analyses. Therefore, accurate tolerance analysis or simulation is crucial for enhanced product quality. This paper outlines fundamental algorithms that consist of assembly simulation for tolerance analysis, which includes those for 3-2-1 assembly, axial move, and various types of pattern move. These algorithms have been verified and validated for many basic problems, and some simple cases are illustrated in this paper. Utilizing such algorithms for accurate tolerance analyses will lead to improved product quality in the future.
