In this dissertation I wish to analyze Gower’s dramatic and choral function represented in Pericles by approaching Freudian and Jungian psychoanalytic method. I could find ‘mandala’by approaching the final synthesis between the conscious and unconscious processes taking place in Precles. The native and stagery features of Pericles (its Chorus, dumb-shows, theophany, gnomic verse, episodic structure, and white and black characterization)work together to produce a coherent effect, and these features are not confined to opening acts but occur throughout the play. The invention of poet as Chorus originates in the medieval religious drama, and Shakespeare had already used a choric narrator for much the same purpose in Henry V. But in none of these precedents is the main function of the Chorus moralistic and didactic. Before the king’s palace at Antioch, the poet Gower explains that Antiochus had a daughter by a consort who then died. The father and daughter became sexually involved and he enacted a low that no man marry her unless he answer Antiochus’s riddle, else he die and his head will be hung in king’s courtyard. Prince Pericles arrives to pursue the marriage. He reads the riddle and solves it, determining the answer is, in fact, a person’s head. The king, angered that Pericles solved the riddle, lies and says he did not. Fearing for his life, and in disgust at discovering the incest between Antiochus and his daughter, Pericles fiees. The presenter, Gower, puts the audience in complete possession of the ugly facts, and the quite extraordinary circumstances in which the young pretender to the hand of the princess of Tyre makes his suit. There is a riddle to be explicated and the cost of failure to do so is graphically depicted by a gruesome row of severed heads: the remains of previous contenders in this risky enterprise. It is, as the audience knows, a classic double blind: if he solves the riddle he falls a prey to Antiochus’s rage at being discovered; if he doesn’t he dies. Freudian symbologists will immediately identify a castration fantasy. It seems to me that Shakespeare users the juxtaposition of choral words and contrasting action to create extremely complex forms dramatic irony. The information that Gower gives the choral forces them to participate actively in discerning the levels of reality and appearance. The mast vivid proofs, The most vivid such as the princess whose beautiful appearance hides her inner corruption, are obvious, but it is a choral technique that is used throughout pericles is extremely subtle ways and permeates the choral dramatic structure

불어권인 캐나다 퀘벡주 정착 이민자를 위한 주정부의 이민자 모국어 교육 및 이중언어 정책

많은 해외 인구의 유입으로 증가한 다문화 가정에서의 이중언어 및 모국어 교육은 한국의 중요한 국가 문제가 되고 있다. 한국보다 먼저 이러한 문제를 해결해 나가고 있는 다문화 국가의 사례는 한국의 언어 정책에 일조를 할 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대표적 다문화 국가인 캐나다의 퀘벡주 이민자 모국어 정책과 이중언어 정책을 통해 다문화 가정에서의 모국어 교육과 이중언어 정책 방향과 해결방안을 고찰한다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 캐나다 언어정책 관련 법률에 대한 고찰, 캐나다 퀘벡주를 중심으로 이민자 모국어 교육 및 이중언어에 대한 교육제도의 변화 흐름을 분석하였다. 결론적으로 퀘벡주의 불어위주의 교육정책의 결과는 역설적으로 이민자의 언어 및 영어를 포함한 다중언어 사용자의 인구의 비율의 증가라는 결과를 가져왔다. 이러한 퀘벡주의 언어정책의 결과는 점점 다중언어 사용자의 비율이 증가하고 있는 한국 사회에서의 향후 미래의 언어교육 정책 수립에 경험적인 자료를 제공해 주고 있다고 사료된다. The bilingual and heritage language education in multicultural families is becoming one of the most important issues in host countries. The investigation of policies on bilingual and heritage language education in multicultural countries in which immigration has long been common will provide insights into policies on the language education policies in Korea. Thus, the aim of this research is to suggest future directions for the bilingual and heritage language education policies in the current global setting through the thorough review of the policies on the bilingualism and heritage language education in Canada. Overall, the objective of this research is to understand the policies on the bilingualism and heritage language education in Canada, particularly in the province of Quebec where there exists two majority languages, French and English, and to provide meaningful insights into the establishment of such policies on multilingual education in Korea.

지속가능한 발전을 위한 행정구역개편 방안 -경상북도 영덕군을 중심으로-

본 연구는 지방자치단체의 행정구역개편의 논의중 사례로 영덕군을 중심으로 인근지역과의 행정구역개편에 대한 인식과 지역의 지속가능한 발전을 위한 과제는 무엇인지 검토한 논문으로 먼저 영덕군의 행정구역개편에 대해 지역적, 경제적, 정치적 관점에서 살펴보고 바람직한 개편방향을 제시하였다. 서베이조사 결과 첫째, 영덕군 지역의 전반적 수준 즉 영덕군의 삶의 질, 지역발전가능성, 지역의 자부심과 관련된 평가에서 삶의질 수준은 2.72점으로 보통(3점)이하로 낮게 평가하고 있으며, 지역발전가능성은 보통(3.02), 그러나 지역의 정주성(지역의 자부심)은 3.25점으로 보통이상으로 평가하였고, 다른 지방자치단체와의 통합에 대한 인식에 대해 지역민들은 영덕군이 다른 지방자치단체와 통합에 대해 반대하고, 특히 포항시에 흡수되는 것에 대해 반대의견이 높고, 만약 개편하게 된다면 영덕을 중심으로 인근 지역을 통합 하는것에 대해 선호하는 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 통합에 있어서 영덕군을 중심으로 다른 지역을 통합하는 안을 선호하였으며, 행정구역개편방향과 관련해 지역민들은 행정구역개편시 경제적 효과를, 행정구역 통합방법과 관련해 “주민투표”를 선호하였음. “영덕군 행정구역개편의 우선기준 순위와 관련해 “주민편익”을 가장 중요하게 인식하고 있었다. 행정구역개편을 고려할 경우 주민들의 참여와 합의된 의견이 중요하며, 각계각층이 모여 충분히 논의하고, 국가 및 자치단체는 주민들의 자유로운 토론과 찬반양측의 충분한 홍보기회를 제공하얘야 하고 또한 지역공동체 형성을 고려한 주민자치의 정확과 행정의 효율화를 도모함으로써 지역의 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있는가? 또는 지역규모의 적정화 및 광역행정의 실현을 동시에 고려하고, 이 과정에서 지역의 역사성과 사회문화적 요인 등이 적극 고려되었는가를 참작하고 통합을 고려해야 할 것이다. The purpose of this study is to review challenges local government reorganization of administrative districts around Yeongdeok Case to the reorganization of administrative districts with the awareness and Region for the sustainable development. English Translation Service for Immigrant Youth’s Korean Language Maintenance in a Korean Ethnic Religious Community Institution

This paper explores the Korean ethnic church members’ attitudes toward the English translation service of the Sunday worship service for Korean immigrant youth in Montreal. This study also investigates the relationship between the adoption of the translation service and the Korean language and culture maintenance. The study involved qualitative interviews, a questionnaire, on-site document analysis, and participant observation. The participants (n=21 in total) were Korean immigrant students between the ages of 13 and 19, who attend a Korean ethnic church in Montreal (n=8), Korean immigrant adult church members (n=10), pastors of the church (n=2), and a translator of the service (n=1). This study confirms Korean ethnic church members’ positive attitudes towards the English translation service for keeping the Korean immigrant youth within the church. In addition, the study shows that the adoption of the translation service helps the Korean immigrant youth maintain the Korean language and cultural identity. Thus, this study suggests that the translation service should be a strategic choice for Korean ethnic churches to keep Korean immigrant youth without the sacrifice of the Korean language as their heritage language. Some implications for immigrant youth’s Korean language maintenance as a heritage language in Canada are briefly touched on.

The Impact of Linguistic Environments on Korean Immigrant Parents` Attitudes toward Heritage Language Maintenance in Canada

This study aims to compare two Korean immigrant communities, namely, Korean community in Toronto and Korean community in Montreal in what it concerns the possible parental attitudes and behaviors linked to heritage language maintenance. Data collection took place over a two month period. The participants were 22 first generation immigrant parents of Korean communities in both cities (i.e., 9 participants from Toronto & 13 participants from Montreal). One-on-one in-depth semi-guided interviews were employed. The results of this study reveal that Korean immigrant parents’ expectations for their children’s proficiency level in the Korean language are very high in both cities and both groups of parents want their children to preserve the Korean language in order for them to maintain cultural and ethnic identity, have practical advantages with multilingual skills for their future career choices, and have better relationships with other Koreans and relatives. This study provides a picture of differences in linguistic environments that exist between linguistic conceptions, attitudes and expectations of members of different communities. Overall, this picture contribute to the understanding of a complex problem of heritage language maintenance in different linguistic environments. (Dankook University)

본 연구는 군위군의 삶의 질과 지속가능한 발전을 모색하기 위한 제반환경과 경쟁력을 높이려는 발전방안을 모색하고자 한 것으로 지역주민의 입장에서 군위군의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 방안은 무엇이며, 지역의 지속기능한 발전을 위한 과제는 무엇인지를 구체적으로 제시하는 데 있다. 지방자치단체가 지역경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서는 현재 그 지역이 가진 경쟁력 수준을 정확하게 파악하고, 객관적인 평가와 결과에 따라 경쟁력 제고를 위한 정책적 시사점을 도출하는 것이 우선시 되어야 할 것이다. 지역경쟁력 평가를 통해 지역발전전략을 모색한 본 논문은 우선 통계 자료상에 나타난 자료를 토대로 1차적으로 지역경쟁력을 평가했고, 또한 실제 주민들이 체감하는 지역경쟁력 부문과 발전과제를 설문 조사함으로써 지역의 발전전략을 모색했다는 점에서 의의가 있다고 생각된다. The purpose of this study is to review Gunwi the quality of life and sustainable development to various environmental and competitive to find ways to improve the development. Local government has to accurately identify in order to stay competitive in the current competitive level of the area and based on the results of objective evaluation and policy implications for competiveness priorities that will need to be derived. This paper is the evaluation of regional competitiveness and regional development strategies seeking statistics; first appeared on the basis of the data was evaluated primarily regional competitiveness, but also a real sense that the people sector and the development of regional competitiveness challenges in a survey by looking development strategy is significant in that it is thought.
