The proportion of the physically disabled has been sharply increasing. The right of the physically disabled have attracted much social attention as well. But, the physically disabled still suffered or was not properly respected in residential environment. In order to describe current situations of residential alterations for the physically disabled, this case study was accomplished to analyze residential alterations through Universal Design principles. If Universal Design principles are sensitively applied to residential alterations for the physically disabled, their housing would be more conveniently altered in various parts for safe and independent life.

본 연구에서는 석류에서 단세포성 곰팡이의 성장을 저해하는 항진균 물질을 탐색하고 새로운 천연 항생물질을 찾기 위한 목적으로 석류를 과피, 씨, 전체로 각각 분리하고 추출하여 항진균 활성을 조사하였다. 고흥에서 생산된 석류를 전체, 과피, 씨로 나누어 70% EtOH로 추출한 후 Candida albicans에 대한 항진균 활성을 측정한 결과, 항진균 활성이 액체배지에서 각각 비슷하게 나왔으며 고체배지에서는 석류 전체 추출물을 사용하였을 때 가장 잘 나타났다. 고체배지에서와 액체배지에서 공통적으로 석류 전체 및 과피 추출물의 chloroform, ethyl acetate 용매 추출물의 C. albicans의 항진균 활성도를 측정한 결과 ethyl acetate 추출물에서 모두 높은 활성도를 나타냈다. C. albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis, Candida lusitaniae에 대한 항진균 활성은 석류 전체 및 석류 과피의 ethyl acetate 용매 추출물에서 각각 36%, 25% 이상의 저해율을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 석류 내 존재하는 항진균 활성 물질은 ethyl acetate에 잘 녹는 지용성 물질인 것으로 추정된다. Antifungal activities of pomegranate were investigated. Seventy percent ethanol extracts of seeds, peels, and whole fruits of pomegranate showed similar antifungal activities against Candida albicans in liquid media, whereas extract of whole fruit showed relatively high antifungal activity in solid media. When 70% ethanol extracts were fractionated sequentially with chloroform and ethyl acetate, ethyl acetate fraction exhibited the highest anti-fungal activities against C. albicans. Ethyl acetate fractions of whole fruits and peel portions showed at least 36% and 25% growth against C. albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis, and Candida lusitaniae in liquid media, respectively. These results indicate that pomegranate contains antifungal compounds soluble with organic solvents.
한국산 재래종 담배잎에서 정제한 Polyphenol Oxidase의 성상에 관한 연구

Purification of polyphenol oxidase(PPO) from Korean native tobacco variety leaves was carried out through the procedure of acetone preciptation, ammonium sulfate fractionation, and Sephadex G-150 gel filtration, resulting in a 84-fold increase in specific activity. The enzyme was stable in a range of pH 7.5 to 8.0 with an optimum of pH 7.5, The optimum temperature for the enzymic reaction was about 60°. It was thermostable with a half-life equal to 20 min at 70°. Km values for (+)-catechin and pyrogallol were 1.6×10^(-3) and 0.5×10^(-3) M, respectively. It possesses high catecholase activity but little or no cresolase activity. Lineweaver-Burk analysis of inhibition data revealed that the inhibition of (+)-catechin oxidation by potassium cyanide, 4-nitrocatechol, cystein and 2-mercaptoethanol was competitive with Ki values of 1.1×10<sup>-6</sup>, 1.8×10<sup>-6</sup>, 8.9×10<sup>-6</sup> and 1.3×10^(-5) M, respectively.
