The underbody catalytic converter(UCC) has a problem that the flow entered monolith is concentrated in the center section of monolith. It lead to the decrease of lifetime of UCC by the local deterioration of monolith and the low conversion rate of exhaust gas. In this study the frame with parallel bars was installed in diffuser for the effective flow distribution. Finally. by removing the fixed frame between monoliths the velocity distribution becomes uniform with minor increasement of pressure drop.

Micro defocusing particle tracking method is a useful tool to measure a three dimensional flow field in a microchannel using a simp1e 3-hole aperture for the quantification of depth-wise position of particles. In this study, by using the calibration-based method established in previous study, the flow characteristics of a backward facing step microchannel have been estimated with the measured velocity fields in several flow rate conditions. Finally, the re-attachment point of a main flow passing the step has been evaluated and discussed.

In this study, a novel hybrid micro/nano PIV system combining defocusing and TIRFM technique has been developed for the multiscale flow measurement. With the developed system, both far and near field velocity fields have been measured simultaneously in a 2D straight microchannel and the particle trajectories were extracted by the nearest tracking algorithm. The shear rate values taken from experimental results have been estimated by comparing with the analytical solution of 2D Poiseuille flow and it is confirmed that the result shows good agreement with the theoretical value.

Simultaneous measurement with PLIF(planar laser-Induced) and Stereo-PIV(Stereoscopic particlc lmage Velocimctry) was performed to investigatc the structural characteristics of flow ficld in Rushton Turbine Mixer. Instantaneouds 3D velocity are measured by two 2K x 2k CCO cameras focused on an object plane with the angular displacement methods which the concentration fields are obtained through the measurement of the fluorescence intensity of Phodamine B tracer excited by the second pulse of Nd:Yang laser light. Image distortion due to the camera view-angle is compensated by mapping function.Fimally, the spatial sturctures of turbulent mixing around Rushton turbine were identified by the calculation of cross-correlation fields between the velocity and concentration field.

With increasing interest in blood-based diseases, the flow characteristics in stenotic vessels are currently issued because the mechanism of stenosis development is still argued with controversial theories. To understand the flow charateristics in stenosis, the simplified channels based clinical angiogram have been investigated through mumerical study with respect to the flow rates and stenotic angle variation. The effect of stenosis alignment variation was evaluated and discussed.
