본 연구는 국가가 추진해 온 진로교육 정책이 중학교 교육과정 우수학교에서 어떤 모습으로 구현되고 있는지를 살펴보는 데에 주된 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 2013년부터 지난 3년 동안 ‘100대 교육과정 우수학교’로 선정된 중학교를 대상으로 각 학교의 교육과정에 제시된 진로교육 운영 실태를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 국가수준 교육과정에서 강조한 진로교육과 진로교육 정책은 중학교 현장에서 일부 긍정적인 성과를 거두고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 진로교육 교육과정이 다양한 형태로 편성되고, ‘진로와 직업’ 과목의 선택이 증가하였으며, 창의적 체험활동의 진로활동이 활성화되는 등 진로교육이 양적으로 확대되는 성과가 있었다. 그러나 진로교육의 내용과 운영 방법에 있어서 일부 요소에의 편중 현상과, 인적․물적 자원확보에 있어서의 학교 자체의 적극적인 노력 부족은 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 토대로 이 연구에서 제안한 바는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교 진로교육의 체계화를 위하여 학교 교육과정 계획 시에 진로교육을 위한 목표와 연간 계획을 함께 수립해야 하며, 이 과정에서 진로교육의 내용 영역들이 적절히 활용되도록 할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 실시 비율이 낮은 ‘진로상담’을 제도화하여 학생들이 중학교 이후의 진로를 자기 주도적으로 설계하고 준비할 수 있도록 할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 모든 학교 구성원이 학생의 진로개발을 촉진할 수 있도록 교사의 진로교육 역량 개발을 위한 연수를 강화할 필요가 있다. The purpose of the study is to investigate how national career education policy carried forward by Korean government is actually realized excellent school in curriculum of middle schools. This study analyzes how career education is implemented in 90 middle schools that were selected out of “Top 100 Ranked Schools in Curriculum” for three years. Results demonstrate that career education policy has partly achieved success in middle school sites. In other words, career education has expanded quantitatively: diverse career education curriculum have been organized, options of ‘Career and Job’ subject have increased, and career activities of creative experience activity have been promoted. However, it needs to be changed and improved that contents and operation of career education are unequally distributed and schools lack efforts to actively secure human and material resources. This study suggests the following. First, to make career education more systematic, middle schools should establish objectives and annual planning for career education when planning school curriculum. In this process, career education content needs to be appropriately utilized. Second, “career counseling,” which has not been actively, implemented needs to be institutionalized so that students take the initiative in designing their career after graduation from middle school. Third, teacher training for developing teachers’ capability to lead career education needs to be strengthened so that every school staff member promotes students’ career development.
