A quintuplet gestation was experienced in chunnam National University Hospital in October, 1979. This is first quintuplet birth reported in Korea. This pregnancy was accompanied maternal complications, so author induced labor in 27 week intravenous dripping of oxytocin and terminated without complications. This 27th week quintuplet that was experienced in authors hospital recently is briefly presented here with relating references.

Concanvaline A(Con A) which strongly inhibits human placental 5-nucleotidase also showed an inhibitory effect upon AMP hydrolysis by serum of a pregant woman. In contrast, Con A did not exert any effect upon serum heat-stable alkaline phosphatase of a pregnant woman. Comparison of serum Con A-inhibitable 5-nucleotidase activity between 6 cases of normal non-pregnant and 11 cases of pregnant woman at the 40-weeks gestation showed a significant rise of the enzyme activity during pregnancy. The possibility that the serum Con A-inhibitable 5-nucleotidase may be originated from the placenta during pregnancy as in the case of serum heat-stable alkaline phosphatase was discussed.

기숙사에서 기사하는 한국건강부인(17세~22세) 각 30명에 대하여 다음과 같은 혈액성분의 정상치를 얻었다. 1. N.P.N: 최저치 24mg/dl, 최고치 36mg/dl, 평균 28.67mg/dl. 2. Urea Nitrogen: 최저치 9.0mg/dl, 최고치 15.0mg/dl, 평균 11.63mg/dl. 3. Creatinine: 최저치 1.0mg/dl, 최고치 1.5mg/dl, 평균 1.188mg/dl. 4. Uric Acid: 최저치 1.3mg/dl, 최고치 3.0mg/dl, 평균 2.349mg/dl. 5. Calcium: 최저치 8.8mg/dl, 최고치11.9mg/dl, 평균 9.59mg/dl. 6. Inorganic Phophorus: 최저치 3.66mg/dl, 최고치 4.86mg/dl, 평균 4.44mg/dl. 7. Alkaline Phosphatase: 최저치 2.0unit/dl, 최고치 7.4unit/dl, 평균 4.38unit/dl. The normal levels of the following blood components have been determined in 210 healthy Korean women aging from 17 to 23 years old and living in the same dormitory. 1) Non-protein nitrogen; 24-36 mg/dl with the average of 28.7 mg/dl. 2) Urea Nitrogen; 9-15 mg/dl with the average of 11.6 mg/dl. 3) Creatinine; 1.0-1.5 mg/dl with average of 1.1888 mg/dl. 4) Uric acid; 1.3-3.0 mg/dl with the average of 2.3 mg/dl. 5) Calcium; 8.8-11.9 mg/dl with the average of 9.95 mg/dl. 6) Inorganic Phosphorus; 3.66-4.86 mg/dl with the average of 4.44 mg/dl. 7) Alkaline Phosphatase; 2.0-7.4 unit/dl with the average of 4.38 unit/dl.

The umbilical hernia has been known to be extremely rare. Moreover the occurrence of this entity in twin has never been reported before to the best of author`s knowledge. The present report is concerned with a case of umbilical hernia in single-ovum twin fetuses of months old. The contents of the hernia were made up of both small and large intestinal loops only. Detailed documentation was presented.

Fetal hemoglobin (Hb F) was more markedly and rapidly broken by ascorbate and hydrogen peroxide, which was enzymatically generated, than adult hemoglobin (Hb A) . Adenosine triphosphate accelerated the hemoglobin degenerative action of ascorbic acid, but the effect of ATP was more marked in Hb A than in Hb F. The oxidation of oxyhemoglobin to methemoglobin by ferricyanide proceeded more rapidly in Hb F than in Hb A, while the oxidation rate of Hb by ascorbate and enzymatically generated hydrogen was not different between Hb F and Hb A. The results suggested that the faster breakdown rate of fetal hemoglobin by ascorbate is another characteristic of fetal hemoglobin which is resulting from its subunit difference from that of adult hemoglobin.
Methotrexte 투여가 생쥐 장관의 Alkaline Phosphatase 활성에 미치는 영향

This experiment was performed to study the effects of methotrexate on the mucus secretion and alkaline phosphatase activity of mucosal epithelium in gut. Methotrexate was administered intraperitoneally in a dose of 0.5mg/mouse 48 hours interval. Experimental groups were divided into the single, two times and three times treated ones. Mouse were sacritied 24 hours after final treatment and stains for H&E, PAS and alkaline phosphatase were made in section of jejunum, ileum and colon. The result obtained were as follows. 1. Denudation of surface mucosal epithelium and abnormal dilatation of intestinal glands were prominent in small intestine as compared with those in large intestine, following methotrexate treatments. 2. Reduction of PAS positive materials was shown in the goblet cells and intestinal glands in a proportion to methotrexate treatments, which was more prominent than that of large intestine. 3. Activity of alkaline phosphatase was increased in lamina propria, intestinal glands, and submucosal tissue of jejunum and ileum but decreased in surface mucosal epithelium and exfoliated epithelium in a proportion to methotrexate treatments, which are milder in colonic mucosa than that of small intestine.
