노인의 Timed Up and Go Test의 구간 구분에 따른 시간과 활동체력과의 관련성

The Timed Up and Go test (TUG) is useful in assessing the body function of the elderly. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the physical fitness and the time of each interval by analyzing the TUG. The study included 35 males(75.3±4.2years) and 53 females(76.6±4.7years) of the elderly aged 65 years or older living in U city. Participants were asked to perform the TUG test, by getting up from a chair, walking 3 m, turning at a designated spot, returning to the seat, and sitting down. The time was measured from the moment the clinician says “go” to the moment the participant sits back on the chair. Participants attached a wireless inertial sensor (BTS G-WALK, Italy) to the fifth lumbar spine and walked at the normal walking speed. The total time of the TUG was divided into 6 sections as follows (Sit to walk, section 1; forward gait, section 2; first turn, section 3; backward gait, section 4; second turn, section 5; turn to sit, section 6). The participants underwent a number of physical tests: 10 m walking, one-legged stance, hand grip strength, knee extension strength, 30-s chair stand, sit and reach, and reaction time. As a result of examining the correlation between TUG and physical fitness, the total TUG total time was significantly related to strength of lower extremity and balance ability. The each section time in the TUG were also significantly related to strength of lower extremity and balance ability. That is, the relationship between the total time, each section time in the TUG and physical fitness were similar. In conclusion, it is suggested that TUG such as Standing up from the chair and sitting down, turning, walking is closely related to strength of lower extremity and balance ability generally.
