This paper is about the romance and dating trend of Korean college students focused especially on the lower class students. Lower class students` experience stratification through consumption pattern. However when they start dating, some of them follow the ``romance scenario based on consumption`` which are common to students from higher classes. But they cannot manage the ``scenario``, which cost much money. Moreover, other costs of dating, such as emotional labor and time, makes dating impossible for these students, who have to make a living at part-time jobs and make efforts for self-empowerment. What is important for these students to date is economic resource, not love or emotional fulfillment. Couples who have managed to carry on their relationships despite this hardship have reduced their dating cost or have denied the ``scenario.`` There are two important explanations about college students`` dating trend in neoliberal society. First, they mainly take the ``romance scenario based on consumption`` seriously. Second, their ``love`` is tied up with their future-success or self-empowerment. Some participants of this study also believe in the ``scenario``. However, because of their poverty, they ultimately forgo or modify the scenario. In the meanwhile, the ideal romance, modified by these students, is distinctive.
