MCM-41 is synthesized with Cab-O-Sil M5(fumed silica), a kind of oligomeric silicate, in the absence of organic base or organic silicate. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is used as a template and sodium hydroxide is used as base. The effect of the change of the composition of reaction mixture on the synthesis of MCM-41 is studied by changing the composition of the reaction mixture independently. The synthesis variables are the molar ratios of OH/Si, surfactant/Si, H₂O/Si, and OH/Si under constant OH/H₂O molar ratio. The molar ratios of OH/Si and surfactant/Si exert crucial influences on the synthesis of MCM-41. The optimum values of the molar ratio of OH/Si and surfactant/Si are 0.3 and 0.27, respectively. The value of H₂O/Si also influences on the stability of the MCM-41. The smaller value results in good stability of the product in case of the complete mixing of the reaction mixture. In addition, the stoichiometric ratio between the reactants is more important in the synthesis than the ionic strength of the reaction mixture.

Several strategies exist for treating unclippable aneurysm, including intravaxular techniques, proximal occlusion of the parent artery or trapping of the aneurysm, microsurgical bypass of the involved arterial segment and reinforcement of the aneurysmal wall. Reinforcement or wrapping is frequently used when the other techniques are thought to be unsafe. We report a technical modification of the traditional wrapping technique for treatment of the fusiform aneurysm of the internal carotid artery, which includes reinforced Daron-patch with traction sutures to the adjacent dura to prevent aneurysmal rupture and further expansion.
