Paik,In K . Han,Chun S . Vol.17 No.4

An experiment was conducted to study the feeding value of extracted 44% soybean oil meal (SBM) produced by Dong Bang Oil Co. and also to determine the optimum using level of this meal. Three hundred broiler chickens were used for 8 weeks feeding trial and successive metabolic trial. Results obtained are as follows; 1. Body weight gain and feed intake increased significantly (P$lt;0.01) as the level of SBM increased in feed. However, no significant differences were observed in feed efficiency among 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% SBM groups. Only 0% SBM group showed significantly (P$lt;0.01) poor feed efficiency compared with other groups. 2. Protein utilizability of finisher diet increased as the level of SBM increased, but the differences were not statistically significant. On the other hand, utilizability of crude fat and total carbohydrate of 15% and 20% SBW groups were significantly (P$lt;0.05) lower than the other groups. 3. As the result of urease activity test was negative, SBM used was considered to be fully heat-treated. 4. General composition and amino acids content of local SBM was very similar to that of standard SBM of NAS. 5. Unit production cost for broiler meat decreased as the using level of SBM increased in broiler diet.

Paik,In K . Han,Chun S . Vol.17 No.4

An experiment was conducted to study the comparative feeding value of locally produced vegetable protein cakes such as soybean oil meal (44%) (S.B.O.M.), rapeseed oil meal (R.O.M.), perilla oil meal (P.O.M.), sesame oil meal (S.O.M.) and corn gluten (50%). Three hundred broiler chickens were used for 8 weeks feeding trial and successive metabolic tiral. Results obtained are as follows; 1. Weight gains were significantly (P$lt;0.01) different among treatments showing the best gain in S.B.O.M. group and then P.O.M., R.O.M., corn gluten and S.O.M. group in that order. Feed intake showed same trend as weight gain did. For the feed efficiency, S.B.O.M. group was significantly (P$lt;0.01) superior to the other groups and S.O.M. group was significantly inferior to the other groups. Among the groups of receiving R.O.M., P.O.M. and corn gluten, differences were not significant each other in feed efficiency. 2. Amino acids compositions of R.O.M. and S.B.O.M. were better than that of other protein feeds considering their relatively high E.A.A. Index of 76.32 and 76.21 respectively. P.O.M., S.O.M. and corn gluten were low in lysine content while methionine contents were relatively high. 3. Nitrogen corrected M.E. values of S.B.O.M., R.O.M., P.O.M., S.O.M. and corn gluten were 2,367㎉, 843㎉, 2.234㎉, 1,305㎉ and 4,283㎉, respectively. Rates of nitrogen retention of P.O.M., S.B.O.M., R.O.M., corn gluten and S.O.M. were 59.38%, 51.18%, 54.11%, 44.80%, and 36.01%, respectively. 4. Dry matter and crude protein availabilities of finisher diet of R.O.M. group and S.B.O.M. group were higher than that of other groups but not significantly different. On the contrary however, crude fat availabilities of R.O.M., and S.B.O.M. group were significantly (P$lt;0.01) lower than that of other groups. 5. Thyroid gland weights and total serum cholesterol contents were significantly (P$lt;0.05) different among treatments. However, the relationship between thyroid gland weight and cholesterol content was observed only in R.O.M. group. Corn gluten was verb effective to increase skin pigmentation. 6. Production cost for 1㎏ of broiler meat of S.B.O.M. group was lower by about 20 won to 30won than that of R.O.M., corn gluten, or P.O.M. group, and by about 100won than that of sesame oil meal group which was least for the performance among the treatments.

Han,Bong D . Lee,Doug J . Yoon,In K . Paik,Chun S .

A feeding experiment was conducted employing 360 five-day-old broiler chicks of Starbro strain to evaluate the nutritive value of fish oil as a high energy feed. Birds were distributed to 6 experimental treatments, 4 replicates per treatment, consisting of non-lipid control, fish oil 5%, animal fat 5%, rice bran wax 5%, fish oil 10%, and, animal fat 10%. Results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Linoleic acid content, one of the essential fatty acids, of fish oil was considerably lower (0.8%) than the other animal fats or vegetable oils. Animal fat and rice bran wax used in this study had their linoleic acid contents of 9.1% and 33.6%, respectively. 2. Only the birds fed diet containing 10% fish oil was significantly lower (p$lt;0.01) in body weight gain and consumed small amounts of feed. The birds fed diet containing 5% rice bran wax and control diets consumed more diets than any other groups. No differences in feed efficiency were noticed in all treatments. Mortality of the fish oil fed birds were much higher than the others. 3. The birds fed diets containing 10% fish oil or animal fat utilized dry matter and total carbohydrate poorly than the other chicks. With regards to nitrogen retention, rice bran wax group was the highest and fish oil groups were the lowest. The MEn value of 10% fish oil diet was significantly lower compared to the 10% animal fat diet. 4. With these results, it may be conducted that 5% or less of fish oil could be used in broiler rations because of the adverse effect in body weight gain and higher morality observed from the birds fed fish oil. Further study may be necessary for the use of fish oil or mixture of fish oil with the other animal fat, and to determine the proper level within 5% level in broiler rations.

Han,Bong D . Lee,Doug J . Yoon,In K . Paik,Chun S .

A total of 240 five-day-old Starbro broiler chicks was allotted to 4 treatments, 4 replica tes per treatment, according to completely randomized design to find out the effects of substitution levels(0, 2, 4 and 6%) of Korean kelp meal for wheat mill run on the growing performance of experimental birds. Results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Kelp meals studied were analyzed for the contents of proximate compositions(moisture 15.24%, crude protein 12.84%, crude fat 1.97%, crude fiber 6.02%, nitrogen free extract 36.65%), vitamins, minerals and also for amino acids. It was found that protein quality of kelp meal was as good as wheat bran. 2. Although no significant difference was found among treatments in body weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency and mortality, the birds fed 4% kelp meal diet showed the best performance in growth rate. 3. In the nutrients utilizability and ME values of finisher diets, no significant difference was found among treatments. 4. Based on these results described above, it seemed that substitution of wheat bran with kelp meal up to 6% level could be used without adverse effect in the broiler ration.
