        Effects of hormone therapy on the clinical outcomes of endoscopic intervention in patients with endometriosis-related ureteral obstruction

        Purpose: We investigated whether endoscopic interventions, including laser endoureterotomy and balloon dilatation following hormone therapy, are a good choice to treat ureteral obstruction due to ureteral endometriosis instead of laparoscopic or open surgery. Materials and Methods: Patients with ureteral obstruction due to endometriosis who underwent endoscopic intervention between 2004 and 2021 were reviewed. Patients with other causes of ureteral obstruction or previous ureteral surgery were excluded from the study. The primary endpoint was the 3-month success rate of endoscopic intervention with or without hormone therapy. Secondary endpoints were the success rate of endoscopic intervention between the hormone-treated and hormone-untreated groups at 6 months and the success rate according to the hormone therapy response of endometriosis at 3 and 6 months. Results: Eighteen patients with 19 ureter units were evaluated in this study, including 12 patients receiving hormone therapy and six patients not receiving hormone therapy. Among patients receiving hormone therapy, one patient had bilateral ureteral obstruction. The success rate of endoscopic intervention was higher in patients who received hormone therapy than in those who did not receive hormone therapy three months after endoscopic intervention (76.9% vs. 0.0%, p=0.003). The same result was also found 6 months after endoscopic intervention (75.0% vs. 0.0%, p=0.005). In addition, the success rates were higher in the hormone-responsive group than in the non-responsive group (100.0% vs. 57.1%), although the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.122). Conclusions: Ureteral obstruction caused by endometriosis can be effectively treated by endoscopic intervention with hormone therapy in select patients.

        함몰유두 수술 후 Aquaplast Thermoplastic (Optimold)를 이용한 편리한 견인고정장치

        In spite of various surgical treatments to correct the inverted nipple, no one is free form its recurrence. It is well known that stable suspension of projected nipple is required after nipple reduction. To minimize the recurrence rate, authors designed a new suspension device using Aquaplast Thermoplastic(Optimold) which is heat-malleable. The retracted nipple was held up with 2 traction sutures using 4-0 nylon, and then the surgical correction was performed. The projected nipple was suspended by 2 traction sutures with 4-0 nylon. A sheet of Aquaplast Thermoplastic (Optimold) was tailored by 1.5×5cm. It was soaked in hot water for 5-10 seconds. In 30 seconds, it was molded by manual in "Ω" shape after dry-up. This prepared splint was applied on the nipple and areolar. 2 ends of nylon threads were pull upward and other 2 ends downward from the splint. Then, they were tied on top of the splint. The suspension sutures maintained for 7 days. From January of 2003 to December of 2006, we corrected 12 inverted nipples in 9 patients. After operation, we applied these devices for suspension to all nipples and 11 of them were kept corrected for more than 6 months. The authors consider this suspension method is simple, quick and effective. And the splint is very comfortable to patient because it is small, light and fits in nipple. In addition, it is very convenient to check the circulation of the operated nipple by sight.

        $BaTiO_3$계 세라믹스의 전기적 성질과 미세조직에 미치는 부분산화 Ti 분말 첨가의 영향

        본 연구에서는 부분산화한 Ti 분말을 첨가한 $BaTiO_3$계 세라믹스를 진공중 $1350^{\circ}C$에서 1 h 소결하여 제조하였다. 공기중 가열후 전기적 성질과 미세조직에 미치는 부분산화한 Ti분말 첨가량의 효과를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 5~7vol%의 부분산화한 Ti분말을 첨가한 반도성 $BaTiO_3$계 세라믹스는 비정항의 변화크기가 $10^5$이상인 우수한 PTCR 특성을 나타내었고 또한, 고다공질과 미립화된 조직을 얻을 수 있었다. 5 vol%의 부분산화한 Ti 분말을 첨가한 $BaTiO_3$계 세라믹스의 상대밀도와 입도는 각각 54%, $1.3\;{\mu\textrm{m}}$였다. 부분산화한 Ti 분말의 첨가에 의한 $BaTiO_3$계 세라믹스의 PTCR 특성 발현은 입계에서의 산소 흡착에 기인하였는데, 이는 Heywang모델로써 설명할 수 있었다. $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics with partially oxidized Ti powders were prepared by sintering at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in v vacuum, and then heated in air. In this study, the effect of partially oxidized Ti powders on electrical properties and microstructures of $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics was investigated. It was found out that the semiconductive $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics beζame to show excellent PTCR (more than $10^5$) characteristic by adding 5~7 vol% of partially oxidized Ti powder. Also, it was found out that the sintered compact had extremely porous and fine-grained microstructure. The relative density and grain size of sintered compact with 5 vol% of partially oxidized Ti powders were 54% and $1.3\;{\mu\textrm{m}}$, respectively. The mechanism for the development of PTCR characteristic in $BaTiO_3$-based ceramics with partially oxidized Ti powders due to the adsorption of oxygen at grain boundaries, and could be explained, based on Heywang model.

        화학증착법을 이용한 삼중 코팅 핵연료 제조에 관한 연구

        TRISO coated fuel particle is one of the most important materials for hydrogen production using HTGR (high temperature gas cooled reactors). It is composed of three isotropic layers: inner pyrolytic carbon (IPyC), silicon carbide (SiC), outer pyrolytic carbon (OPyC) layers. In this study, TRISO coated fuel particle layers were deposited through CVD process in a horizontal hot wall deposition system. Also the computational simulations of input gas velocity, temperature profile and pressure in the reaction chamber were conducted with varying process variable (i.e temperature and input gas ratios). As deposition temperature increased, microstructure, chemical composition and growth behavior changed and deposition rate increased. The simulation showed that the change of reactant states affected growth rate at each position of the susceptor. The experimental results showed a close correlation with the simulation results.

        Microstructure and mechanical properties of chemical vapor deposited ZrC film on SiC/graphite substrate

        Both ZrC and SiC layers are crucial layers in TRISO coated fuel particles since they prevent diffusion of fission products and provide mechanical strength for the fuel particle. However, each layer has its own defects, so the purpose of this study is to determine such defects in these layers. In this study, we carried out thermodynamic simulations before actual experiments. With these simulation results, we deposited the ZrC layers on SiC/graphite substrates through a CVD process. SiC films on graphite have different microstructures which are a hemispherical angular, domed top and faceted structure at different deposition temperatures. According to the microstructures of SiC, the preferred orientation, hardness and elastic modulus of deposited ZrC layers are changed. New combinations of coated ZrC/SiC/graphite were made to improve mechanical properties and chemical properties for the purpose of fabricating TRISO coated fuel particle with high stability.         테이퍼 구조를 갖는 광대역 바이코니컬 안테나의 설계

        본 논문에서는 Cellular/PCS/IMT-2000/Wibro 및 S-DMB의 서비스 대역을 모두 만족하는 통합 기지국용 광대역 안테나를 설계하였다. 바이코니컬 종단 부분에 테이퍼 구조를 적용하여 광대역 임피던스 정합을 구현하였으며, 시간영역 유한차분법(FDTD)을 통해 설계 및 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 측정 결과, 제작된 안테나는 대역폭 $0.79GHz{\sim}2.93GHz$에서 5.50 dBi 이상 최대 8.19 dBi의 이득 특성을 갖는다. In this paper, the broadband antenna for the combined base station of Cellular/PCS/IMT-2000/Wibro and S-DMB services is designed and the proposed antenna allows having sufficient coverage for each service band. In order to get the broadband impedance matching, the tapered sections are applied on the both terminus of hi-conical respectively. The design parameter is calculated and simulated by using FDTD method. As a result, the measured bandwidth of the proposed antenna is $0.79GHz{\sim}2.93GHz$ and the gain is distributed from 5.5 dBi up to 8.19 dBi.

        Ossifying Epulis in a Thoroughbred Foal

        A 4-month-old female thoroughbred foal was presented with large mass on mandibular gingiva. The enlargedmass was firm and yellowish pink in color, and occupied the whole mandibular arcade. The filly could not closeher mouth with her lips. Radiographs showed radioopaque mass under the mandible. The mass was surgically excisedfrom mandible. Histopathologically, gingival mass was characterized by hyperplastic gingival epithelium, wellvascularized collagenous stroma and large area of bony tissues. Based on the gross and histopathologic findings, thiscase was diagnosed as ossifying epulis in the mandibular gingiva. This is the first report of ossifying epulis in athoroughbred horse in Korea.
