1. An ecological survey of the fresh water fish in the Namdae River, Muju was undertaken over a period of 4 days, June 8∼11, 1972 at 14 stations in the river as shown in fig. 1. 2. The authors have collected 24 species of fresh water fish belonging 20 genus and 8 families at 14 stations. If 10 species got by questionaire is added to the number it becomes 34 species. 3. The dominant species in the studied area were Zacco platypus at station 1∼6, Z. temmincki at station 7∼9, Moroco Sp. at station 10∼11, M. oxycephalus at station 12 and 14 respectively. 4. The authors noticed that the population size of 2 year fish is biggest and 1 year fish and 3 year fish are smaller generally. we considered that the small size of the 1 year fish population is due to incompleted collection methods and the severe difference in population size of 2year fish and 3 year fish is due to overfishing. 5. The fish fauna of the Gu-cheon-Dong, Muju and the Odae Mountain stream is quite different, namely, Pseudopungtungia nigra, Liobagrus mediadiposalis and Mogurndaobscura are found in the former only, on the other hand, Brachymystax lenok, Ladislavia taczanowshii Liobagrus andersoni and Barbatula toni are found in the latter only. 6. The finding of Pseudopungtungia nigra, Gonprokopterus mylodon, Moxoco sp., Gobiobotia macrocephalus, Parasilurus microdorsalis, Pseudobagrus emerginatus and Cottus poecilopterus is very important data for changing Korean fish distribution map.

This survey is based on the seven month researches performed respectively from April to October, 1973 at 4 stations along the Namdae river, Gang Neung in Gang Won-do on the fish fauna and the distribution of its body length. They are as follow; Firstly, the authors have collected 22 species of freshwater fish in this river. If 13 species got by previous collection is added to the number of this survey, it becomes 24 species of freshwater fish belonging 22 Genus and 12 Families. Secondary, the dominant species in the studied area were Moroco lagowskii at station 1∼3, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus at Station 4. Thirdly, the authors studied the body length distribution of M. lagowskii, Cobitis taenia, Barbatula toni, Pungitius pungitius sinnensis, Plecoglossus altivelis and Chaenogobius annularis urotaenia. Fourthly, 2 species, Lampetra reissneri and Pungitius pungitius sinnensis reported that it habitated only in northern part of Won san at east coast, were collected the Namdae river, Gang Neung in this survey. The authors consider that Lampetra reissneri, Pungitius pungitius sinnensis and Oncorhynchus macrostomus in this river were distributed the farthest southern part of east coastin Korea.

This survey is based on the seven-day researches performed respectively in August and october at the two areas along the upper Anseung stream in Gyeong gi-do, on estimation of the population size of moroco oxycephalus, including the distribution of its body length. They are as follow; Firstly, in Shim mi-dong valley, Moroco oxycephalus was exclusively dominant in number, while in Majun-ri other twelve species were found along with M. oxycephalus. Secondary, in river type the shin mi-dong valley belong to Aa type with pebbles at most of the river-bed and the average temperature of water in August, 1972 was 14 to 15 degrees, Centigrade and that of water in October 8 to 10 degrees C. On the other hand, in Majunri stream which belongs Aa.Bb type in formation with sand at the riverbed, the average temperature of water registered at 18 degrees, Centigrade in August and 15 to 16 degrees, Centigrade in October respectively. Thirdly, each estimation of the population size of M.oxycephalus both in Shin mi-dong valley (120㎡) and Majun-ri stream (1,700 and 5,600㎡) began with release M.oxycephalus., which were collected both in August and October and whose caudal fins were cut off as a marking The catching of M.oxycephalus plus already released ones had hereafter been resumed for five consecutive days until the following figure of the population size was obtained through adaptation of both Petersen method and Bailey`s Amendment; It was 2.00±0.78 fishes per square meter at shin mi-dong, while it was 3. 23±0.23 fishes per square meter at Majon-ri, in October alone. Fourthly, as to growth of M.oxycephalus, it measured On an average 34 to 36㎜ long in August and 46 to 48㎜ long in October in an apparent growth. Fifthly, the October table of the M.oxycephalus length showed a considerable wide range from 37㎜ to 129㎜, however when the multi-peak curve was recurved according to Cassie`s method, the length 28㎜ to 73.5㎜ is estimated to be one year old and that of 61.5㎜ to 129㎜ two years old or more.
