Balcony remodeling in apartment has been legally permitted and consequential law relating to installation of sheltering space was introduced. However, there happen a lot of cases of balcony remodeling without installing sheltering space. This study includes a case study using a fire simulation. This study analyzed the safety level about the three sheltering space and entrance in apartment. The safety degree was examined by the standard of its life safety function of the residents. In addition, in anticipation of various ignition points, safety level was analyzed according to ignition points classified by sheltering space. As a result of analysis of simulation by sheltering space, sheltering space at the balcony located at the front master room is more or less safe in comparison with other sheltering space, and the result according to ignition points shows that the sheltering space located at the front was on the whole, much safer than that located at the other balcony or entrance. This aspect is considered to be a difference resulting from the distance from fire occurrence point to sheltering space and a fire's spreading speed.

Applying the daily global solar radiation data measured at least 23 years, the typical solar radiation year for meteorological stations of two cities located in South Korea is generated using the Finkelstein-Schafer(FS) statistical method. Based on the typical solar radiation data obtained, the geographical difference of solar energy resource of these 2 stations was also analyzed. It is expected that the presented typical data for major cities, which has the highest solar energy potential in South Korea, will be useful to the designers of solar energy conversion and utilization devices.

Typical meteorological data is fundamental to computer simulation introduced for environment-friendly architecture designs. Therefore, in order to improve accuracy of computer simulation, typical meteorological data should be established. By examining how to choose typical meteorological data, this study selected the optimized weight factor for TRY where weighting factor was not clearly set. As a result, the same weighting factor was applied to each climatic element and TRY data where the weight factor was applied could have the distribution very similar to measurement data. The weighting factor is considered to reflect geographical characteristics of Seoul and applied climatic elements.

The paper discusses methods of selecting typical weather data and describes the generation of typical dry bulb temperature years (TRYs; Test reference years) for Seoul and Busan, in South Korea. The typical dry bulb temperature were selected using the Finkelstein-Schafer(FS) statistic, from 20 years of meteorological data recorded during the period 1981-2000. and It compared the daily average weather data and typical dry bulb temperature average data. The result which it compares, it has the shape where the relationship of two data is similar. Also it got the result which is interrelation. So the FS statistical method draws up Test reference year usefully, will be used.

This study aims to figure out typical meteorological data according to Korean time in order to evaluate building energy performance. Various methods of calculating typical meteorological data were compared and examined to improve accuracy and reliability of this study. This study analyzed and examined such methodologies as typical meteorological data for HASP/ACLD-8001, UK ClBSE TRY developed by ClBSE and prEN ISO 159Z7-4, (=ISO TRY) an international standard to evaluate annual energy demand of cooling and heating devices. In addition, actual data of KMA corresponding to Seoul in 1985~2005 were statistically analyzed according to calculation methodology. The calculated typical meteorological data were compared to actual data using MBE, RMSE and t.-Statistic. As a result, According to the comparison between average annual for HASP/ACLD-8001 isand ISO TRY standard year, the average annual for HASP/ACLD-8001 is closer to actual measurement, showing that the use of typical meteorological data for HASP/ACLD-8001 is preferred. However, since the input format requested by current simulation is the same international standard as TRY. Therefore, it is necessary to improve accuracy of TRY calculation methodology and accordingly figure out Korean typical meteorological data based on average year.

An energy performance of a building and its power consumption are estimated by using a computer simulation program in order to save the energy during its planning step of the construction. Weather data is an important variable for the estimation value of the program for evaluating energy performance. However, in the program for evaluating energy performance, weather data for domestic areas are not always included or weather data for domestic areas limited to certain areas in Seoul. Thus, the study is a foundation study suggesting weather data that is applicable to a computer simulation program reflecting characteristics of Korean weather.

On-dol, which is a Korean traditional heating system, is in use to this day because the system is suitable to our lifestyle. And nowadays, for the reduction of construction period and enhancement of productivity transition from existing system to dry type On-dol system has been attempted. However, dry type On-dol system was not put to practical use because of the restrictions of thermal and acoustic performance, construction workability and economic problem. Especial1y, restriction of acoustic performance is an essential problem in apartment buildings. Therefore, this paper presents data for reduction of floor impact noise by comparison and analysis of existing system and On-dol system through field measurement.
