Vol.24 No.4

The present study aimed to compare the effects of an 8-week 10RM squat program 5 sets of repetition maximum and another 5 sets of repetition sub-maximum, on isokinetic muscular strength, muscular power, muscular endurance and the number of repetition. 18 male P. E. majors at D University in Chungnam who had engaged in resistance work-outs for at least 6 months were selected and randomly assigned to an MRG (9) and an SMRG (9). Subjects participated in an 8-week resistance work-out program twice weekly, and performed 5 sets per day with 3-min inter-set breaks. In principle, the performance rate was set at one trial per 2 seconds in line with the resistance work-out intensity. The number of repetition was set based on the performance rate exceeding 2 seconds. The MRG(maximal repetition group) performed 5 sets of 10RM squats, whereas the SMRG(submaximal repetition group) carried out 5 sets of squats repeatedly up to the point of time when the performance rate markedly dropped. The isokinetic muscular functionality following the 8-week resistance work-out program and the number of repetition were analyzed with a 2X2 mixed-design two-way ANOVA. First, no significant inter-group difference was found in the changes of maximal muscular strength in line with the work-out intensity. Yet, both groups’ maximal muscular strength significantly increased following the 8-week training program. Second, no significant difference was found in the changes of muscular power in line with the intensity between the two groups. Still, both showed significant increases in muscular power following the 8-week training program. Third, no significant inter-group difference was found in muscular endurance in line with the work-out intensity. However, muscular endurance significantly increased following the 8-week training program in both groups. Fourth, no significant inter-group difference was found in the number of repetition in line with the work-out intensity, whereas the 8-week training program was found to significantly increase the number of repetition in both groups. Fifth, the number of 10RM increased in 8 weeks in both groups, which however was statistically insignificant. Finally, the 8-week squat resistance training program consisting of repetitions maximum and sub-maximum contributed to improving the isokinetic muscular strength, muscular power, muscular endurance and the number of repetition, exerting homogeneous training effects.

Ⅰ. The purpose of this study was to find what the % body fat and their trend of change were like with age. The subjects in this study consisted of 180 elementary school children and 120 middle school students: 30 boys and 30 girls in each 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school, and 1st, 2nd grade in middle school, totally 150 boys and 150 girls. % body fat was measured by means of bioimpedance analysis. The subject were controlled to be prohibited one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiful range test with SPSS/PC program. From this study we could find the results as follows: 1. The mean % body fat in 4th grade elementary school children appeared 18.76%±5.13 in boys, 21.24±4.11 in girls. Over-fatty boys(above 20% BF) were 35%, Over fatty girls(above 25% BF) were 16.7%. 2. The mean % body fat in 5th grade elementary school boys and girls appeared 18.11%±4.05, 21.44±4.30 respectively. Over-fatty boys and girls were 30%, 20% respectively. 3. The mean % body fat in 6th grade elementary school boys and girls appeared 17.93%±4.02, 21.87±3.38 respectively. Over-fatty boys and girls were 23.3%, 16.7% respectively. 4. The mean % body fat in 1th grade middle school boys and girls appeared 16.72%±5.46, 23.71±2.68 respectively. Over-fatty boys and girls were 26.7%, 36.7% respectively. 5. The mean % body fat in 2th grade middle school boys and girls appeared 15.24%±4.46 in boys and 23.08±33.33 in girls. over-fatty boys and girls were 6.7%, 30.0% respectively. 6. The difference of mean % body fat between boys and girls appeared to be statistically significant at each grade.(p.<05) 7. The difference of mean % body fat between 2nd grade middle school boys and 4th, 5th, 6th grade elementary boys showed statistical significance.(p.<05) The difference of mean % body fat between 1st grade middle school girl and 4th, 5th grade elementary girls showed statistically significance.(p.<05) With the results above we could recognise that current % body fat in elementary children and middle school girl were high and the percentage of over-fatty boys and girls was also high. This means that nowadays appropriate balance between caloric intake and consumption becomes more important for boys and girls. But the trend of body fat change appearde normally. For both boy and girl, the 1st grade of middle school was to be thought as the turning point of % body fat; for boy decreasing and for girls increasing. This was to be reliable, because in that period the effect of hormonal function becomes very active.
