누금 기법이란 전통 세공기법의 일종인데, 금속의 장식적 요소를 최대한 섬세하고 화려하게 강조할 수 있다는 장점으로 그 고유성을 유지해왔다. 그러나 현대에 이르러 가공방법의 낮은 실효성으로 인해 누금 기법의 전통적 계승이 어려워진 것이 사실이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 누금 기법의 장식성은 금속 세공에 있어 빼놓을 수 없는 중요한 요소이기 때문에 이러한 전통적 기법을 현대적으로 해석하여 디자인에 적용하는 것은 그 활용도가 상당히 높을 것으로 기대된다. 최근에는 장신구를 제작하기 위해 전통적인 기법을 그대로 사용하는 방법보다, 앞서 설명한 누금 기법을 현대의 기술적 방법으로 다양하게 적용하고 있는 추세이다. 본 연구에서는 신라시대에 처음 출토된 유물에서 나타나는 조형적 특징을 중국의 남방계와 북방계의 누금세공의 유입경로에 따라 발전되는 지역적 분류에 따른 특징에서 유래된 부분을 중심으로 그 범위를 한정하였다. 신라시대의 유물에서 나타나는 누금세공의 조형적 특징을 도형화하여 정리하는 과정을 거쳐 누금기법의 현대적 적용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 이와 같은 과정을 통해 누금 기법의 조형적 특징은 누금 입자의 크기 변화, 입자의 배열 방식, 그리고 미립자의 구성에 따른 이미지 변화가 가장 눈에 띄게 나타나는 것을 파악할 수 있었으며, 이를 통해 누금기법이 세공의 장식적인 부분에 큰 영향을 주고 있음을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 사실을 바탕으로 전통적 누금기법을 적극적으로 활용하여, 조형적 요소를 이용한 누금세공 기법이 현대에도 활용 될 수 있기를 기대 한다. As a type of traditional workmanship technique, the filigree technique has maintained its characteristics as it could delicately and glamorously emphasize the decorative elements of metal. In modern times, however, due to the low effectiveness of the process method, it is difficult to inherit the traditional filigree technique. Nevertheless, as the decorativeness of filigree technique is an essential element of metalwork, if this traditional technique is modernly interpreted and then applied to designs, the utilization of it could be considerably high. The recent trend of producing accessories is to diversely apply the filigree technique to the modern technical method, instead of fully using the traditional technique. First, this study classified the formative characteristics shown in relics initially excavated in Shiia Period into southern race and northern race of China, and then they were classified into region developed in accordance with the inflow channel of filigree, which was the characteristics of northern area and southern area of China. Going through the process of geometricizing the formative characteristics of filigree shown in each relic, the modern applicability of filigree was examined. In the results, regarding the formative characteristics of filigree, the change of image in accordance with the change of particle size, arrangement of particle, and composition of particle was the most noticeable. The filigree technique had huge effects on the decorative part of workmanship. Lastly, based on this fact, the filigree technique using the formative elements is expected to be used in modern times, by actively using the traditional filigree technique.
