Vol.13 No.4
The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of 12-week physical training on insulin sensitivity in postmenopausal female with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). 11- postmenopausal women were volunteered for this study and their fasting blood glucose levels were over 100 ㎎/㎖. All subjects were asked voluntarily to walk/fast walk 4 days of each week for 12 weeks on treadmill and the walk/fast walk distance were recorded. The 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). VO₂ max and blood sampling were performed at prior to training (0-wks), 6-week 16-wks) and 12-week (12-wks) after training. Blood lipids and HbA_(1c) were measured from collected blood samples. VO₂ max was significantly improved after 6-week (24.21-0.8 ㎖/㎏/min) and 12-week (25.4 ±0.9 ㎖/㎏/min) training compared to baseline (22.6±0.5 ㎖/㎏/min), respectively. Glucose, insulin and c-peptide responses in OGTT were not significantly different in 6-wks and 12-wks after training compared to 0-wks. The plasma lipid profiles were not affected by training. but HbA_(1c) n 6-wks (5.65±0.1 %) and 12-wks (5.6-0.1 %) were significantly different from 0-wks (6.0±0.1 %). Therefore, these data suggest that 12-week physical training in postmenopausal women with IFG may enhance the HbA_(1c) level, but without the improvement of insulin sensitivity.
