Vol.20 No.1
The bronze dagger burial and its features in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces are largely divided into three categories as follows. The first one is the dolmen in Ma Point, Yeokdong, Gwangju, the burial boundary-type dolmen, Sangjapo-ri, Yangpyong, and the feature in 77, Udu-dong, Chuncheon; the second one is the worked stone burial in Sanodong, Guri; the third one is the wooden coffin tomb in whole areas. The first one dates from the 4th century B.C., the second one from the 3rd century B.C., and the third one from the second half of the second century B.C. to first century B.C.. In the first one, the straight edge bronze dagger and the Korean-type bronze dagger were buried, which were a clear example of investigating the feature that made it possible to infer the experimental production sequences of the early group during the Korean-type bronze dagger culture, and, in the third one, the patterns of tombs, burial goods, and bronze burial are considered to have been influenced by Geumgang River-Mangyeonggang River basins, in light of the similarity to those in the areas. The tomb in Ma Point, Yeok-dong, Gwangju, located on the flat area directly under the summit of a steep hill, unlike general burial boundary-type dolmens, including alluvial fan, etc., is a dolmen with a peculiar structure in which several layers of natural worked stones are filled up to the top of its burial chamber to support the capstone. Considering that stone arrowheads and bronze arrowheads, which were traditional weapons, and the straight edge bronze dagger symbolizing the advent of new technology, were placed on the upper side of middle part of the burial chamber piled up with a bunch of soil blocks in the feature No.1 located in 77, Udu-dong, Chuncheon, it is judged as the sarcophagus-type ritual feature. Especially the bronze dagger in 77, Udu-dong, Chuncheon among the ones of the two features, is thought to belong to the straight edge bronze dagger, not the Mandolin-shaped bronze dagger, considering the blade shape, ridge profile, ridge width, ridge burnished, blood groove, etc.
