Porcine circoviruses(PCV) are the smallest nonenveloped DNA viruses containing a unique single-stranded circular genome. No recognized link was found between PCV infection of pig and disease. But the PCV consistently identified from post weaning multi systemic wasting syndrome(PMWS) and researches indicate that there are strong relationships between PCV and PMWS. Clinical signs were emaciation, dyspnea, high fever with normal appetite. Necropsy findings showed respiratory disease complex lesion and lymph node anomalities. An indirect-immunofluorescent antibody procedure was used to assay swine sera for the presence of PCV antibodies. Antibodies against PCV were found in an average of 20% of the samples tested. The PCV DNA was amplified from lymph nodes collected from pigs. PCV specific primers were successfully amplified DNAS. Further studies are needed to determine the possible role this virus might have in disease.

Many chemical disinfectants are using to protect the foot and mouth disease (FMD) and avian influenza (AI) in Korea since 2000. This study was performed to confirm disinfective ability of commercialized chemical disinfectants and to investigate the sterilizing ability of E-ball as alterative to chemical disinfectants. 4 kinds of acidulant, 3 kinds of aldehyde, 1 kind of oxidizer and 300 g of E-ball were used in this study. Dilution rate of disinfective power of all chemical disinfectants were to 200 times. The sterilizing ability of aldehydes were better than the acidulant and oxidizer with Salmonella typhimurium. The sterilizing ability of E-ball treated solution was guessed due to the friction of E-ball deads. In the case of the friction of 2 beads of E-ball, Salmonella typhimurium was sterilizted on 1×106/mL CFU in the E-ball treated solution. The E-ball treated solution had superior sterizing power compared with the chemical disinfectants in the bacteria of soil for antibacterial examination. E-ball treated solution has a possibility as the substitute of chemical disinfectants to protective the animal diseases contains FMD, AI.

A serological survey was conducted to detect the type of Leptospirosis in sows. Antigen(live antigen) tested were L.icterohemorrhagiae, L.pomonal, L.canicola, L.Hardjo, L.australis, L.autumnalis, L.grippotyphosa, L.pyrogens, L.bataviae, L.hebdomadis. The survey was performed from June 1992 to December 1992 by microscopic-agglutination test. The results were as follows. 1. Among the serum samples of 92 heads of the sows, 6 heads of the sow(6.5%) were positive. 2. Among the positive samples of 6 heads, L.icterihemorrhagiae were 4 heads(4.3%) and L.pomona 2 heads (2.2%), respectively. 3. Antibody titers of positive sera were ranging from 1:200 to 1:1600. 4. The seroprevalence of leptospira in Chechon city, Chechon county, Danyang county that Chechon county(3.3%) was higher than that of other districts(1%-2.2%).

Green tea was known which regulated adipocyte differentiation metabolism. The mecha nism on the lipid decreased contents of TAG in the plasma. In addition, green tea increased the expression leptin mRNA, PPAR δ mRNA and TGF β. The tea tested was korean powdered green tea. In this experiment, Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were fed 3 % green tea(powdered) for 3 weeks on the basal diet and obese diet and green tea grouts-fed pork meats, duck meats. The expression of leptin mRNA and PPAR δ mRNA were up-regulated in the green tea-fed groups compared with those of the not green tea-fed groups. There were no significantly difference on the expression of leptin mRNA and PPAR δ mRNA in green tea grouts-fed pork meats, duck meats as compared with the not fed green tea grouts meats. TGF β mRNA, TNF α mRNA and adipsin mRNA were not expressed in the pork meats, duck meats. The expression of TGF β mRNA, TNF α mRNA and adipsin mRNA were observed in the experimental rats but no significantly difference on the contents. Physiologic regulated genes were not expressed in the green tea grout-fed pork meats and duck meats.

This experiment was to investigate the Leptospiral antibody in the pigs with the serological test by the microscopic-agglutination-test(MAT) from November 1991. to Januaury 1992. Antigen(living antigen) was used L. icterohemorrhagiae, L. pomona, L. canicola, L. hardjo, L. ballum, L. australis, L. autumnalis, L. grippotyphosa, L. tarassovi, L. pyrogenes, L. bataviae, L. hebdomadis for the serolgical test in the pigs. The result obtained are summarized as follows: of the total 202 serum samples examined, 1. Among the serum samples of 202 heads, 19 heads of the pigs(9.4%) were positive. 2. Among the positive samples of 19 heads, The detected were L. icterohemorhagiae 10 heads(5.0%), L. pomona 3 heads(1.5%), L. canicola 6 heads(3.0%). 3. Antibody titers of positive sera were ranging from 1: 100 to 1: 400. Serotiters appeared to be very low. 4. The seroprevalence of Leptospira in Chechon was higher than that other districts(5.4%-5.8%), but the lower than Chung-nam, Kyonggi(13.7-15.9%).

Fowl typhoid is a septicemic disease of turkeys and chickens. The antigen is Salmonella(S) gallinarum, which cross-reacts with S pullorum because of common antigen. The organism is maintained in the ovary of carrier birds and transmitted vertically in the york. It is also transmitted horizontally through feces and broken eggs. The symptoms are weakness, drowsiness, wing drooping, hyperexcitability, paresis and diarrhea. In the many cases, the birds are found dead in the morning before any symptoms have been noticed. This experiment was carried out to investigate the characteristics of S gallanarum and scrutinized about the control systems. 1. Fowl typhoid was came about in the winter than the other seasons. The average of mortality was 46.3%. And it was came about not only adult poultry but also chicks. 2. S gallinarum was isolated from liver and spleen in infected chickens. Total isolated strains were 60. 3. The organisms were all extinct at 60℃, 30mins. 4. A survival rate was higher in underground water than a secondary distilled water. It was detected in underground water until 30 days. 5. When being exposed to the solar light, it became extinct almost within 24 hours. 6. It was survived in a refrigerator until 12 months. 1. It was extinct among b mins in 0.1% phenol and 2% formalin. 8. When the cultured organism fluid was inoculated in SD-rat abdominal cavity, rat died within 24 hours. 9. Pullorum-typhoid related program must disciplines in order to destroy the fowl typhoid, and breeding system must be converted to cage system.

These experiment was carried out to investigate the pulmonary lesions and the function of alveolar macrophages in rats exposed to cement dusts. 1. The number of total cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BAL) increased remarkably in 1st month As time goes by, tend to less and less in numbers. 2. The number of neutrophil and lymphocytes obtaining from the total of BAL increased remarkably in first month, but as time goes by, they tended to grow less and less in number Macrophages decreased gradually after being temporarily augmentation. 3. Histipathologically, the thickening of alveolar walls, alveolar interstitial, and infiltrated macro-phages containing cement dusts.

Probiotics have many effects such as antihypertensive, prevention of cancer, antioxidation, reduction of dermatitis symptoms, improvement of mineral absorption, reduction of allergic symptoms, and decrease of cholesterol, However, the main role of probiotics is that they balance intestinal microbials proportion. L. acidophilus is one of probiotics and microflora in intestine. It has an acidification activity, aroma production, texture formation and probiotics properties. We studied on the roles of L. acidophilus in mice. In this study, body weights of mice were decreased when administration of L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU) and swimming ability has been raised than a normal group after feeding on L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU). After taking L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU), total white cells were increased than a normal group; hemoglobin and thrombocytes were increased. The level of cholesterol and triglyceride were decreased in blood analysis. We knew L. acidophilus is related to innate immune system. We found out the secretion of cationic peptide was increased in the Lysoplate assays as a result of L. acidophilus (1×1010 CFU) administration. Appearance rate of lysozyme was also increased than the normal group on an immunohistochemistry stain. We confirmed L. acidophilus contributes to host health through innate immune system stimulation. L. acidophilus more than 1×1010 CFU are thought to be beneficial for the host health and prevention of intestinal diseases in field condition.

From the end of July 2012, several cases of abortion have been happened at the Korean indigenous cattle farm with 124 heads in Chungbuk province, Korea. Serological tests such as Rose-bengal test (RBT) and standard tube agglutination test (STAT) have been performed according to the standard official protocols of bovine brucellosis and 41 cattle turned out to be brucellosis-positive simultaneously. To find out the main factors of brucellosis outbreaks and spreads, additional serological, etiological and molecular investigation were applied. Totally, 11 B. abortus were isolated from 10 cattle`s specimens including lymph-nodes and/or testis, and drinking water in cowhouse. In genotyping by multi-locus VNTR assay (MLVA) using 17 loci markers, the present B. abortus isolates were shown all the same pattern, D1 genotype, which has been reported in Gyeonggi and Gangwon province, Korea. These results suggest that the input of brucellosis might come from neighboring farms directly or indirectly, even if by unknown factor and expansion within farm would accelerate by materials related with aborting cows.

구제역 발생시 구체적인 방역요령은 "구제역 긴급 행동지침"에 따라 방역조치가 수행되며, 이 요령에서 정하지 못하는 사항들은 행정지침으로 시달된 방법에 따라 수행하게 된다. 본 기고는 구제역 방역을 일선에서 시행한 결과를 토대로 재검토한 바, 모든 감수성 동물은 최종도착지가 도축장인 점을 감안할 때 도축장방역이 매우 중요함에도 불구하고 "구제역 긴급 행동지침"이 구체적이지 못하였으며 일선 방역·검사기관의 능력과 여건이 고려되지 않고 방역 및 검사업무는 물론 제반 행정사항을 검사원에게 일임함으로써 결과적으로 업무가중에 의한 검사처리능력의 한계점을 넘는 결과를 초래하였다. 따라서 "구제역 긴급 행동지침" 및 자체 가상 시나리오 작성시 도축장 방역을 보완하여 유사시 효율적인 방역·검사가 이루어질 수 있도록 다음과 같이 제언한다. ① 검사원의 증원방안 ② 검사업무 보조원 확보 방안(기능직 공무원 대체) ③ 정육 및 부산물 처리장 선정(특히 오수 및 장내용물 처리방안) ④ 사법권의 적절한 활용방안
